My System

Here is my address book.
C:\Documents and Settings\BGR\Application Data\Microsoft\Address Book

Here are my database files.
C:\Documents and Settings\BGR\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{A21FE909-09E0-458E-9F4A-E9432A589FA4}\Microsoft\Outlook Express

Yours may differ slightly from mine but it will get you pointed in the right direction. Also I do not know if these will work if you change your version of Outlook Express. My guess is that they will.

You might just want to make sure that your stuff is in Documents and Settings. If it is then maybe backup the entire folder.

I'll take a look and see what I can figure out for backing up..

I'm hoping POADB or MicroBell might have some ideas for recovering the files that Cleanup got rid of that I was not supposed to delete :-(

Thanks Barry

Unfortunatly NO. Once Cleanup deletes the files...they are gone. That's why I asked you to UNCHECK that item before running it and gave you the WARNING when you downloaded it....as some systems (Like HP, Compaq, IBM) hold critical files in a .tmp or .bak files and cleanup will delete them if that box is not unchecked. By the sound of things when you 'QUIT' and logged out when smitrem errored out...you have corrupted the system.

Your only option now..is to save what you can and reinstall the operating system. As for saving your address book and messages....

Your address book is located here...

C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR USER\Application Data\Microsoft\Address Book

Save the file marked youruser.wab

Your Messages are located here....

C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR USER\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{FD8606D0-47EC-4FE5-8A8D-1B90D0F6F411}\Microsoft\Outlook Express

Save the files marked....

inbox.dbx
sent items.dbx
outbox.dbx
deleted items.dbx

or any other .dbx folder you may have made. Once the OS is reinstalled...you can copy these files back to those locations (overwriting the new ones from the install) and you'll save the address book and all messages.

Thanks a bunch for the info.. I can't believe I made the mistake of not unchecking that box. I thought I was being so careful. I'll have to save what I can and take it to someone like GeekSquad to have them fix it for me. I really appreciate all the help
