My scary looking log file!!! - I used HJT Analyzer program

Thanks in advance for your help. I am getting tons of pop-ups despite running Ad-aware, Spybot, McAfee, etc. Now I have lost McAfee virus program with a warning saying some components of the program are missing, reload.

Also some sites seem slow to load and by clicking on go or on the link again, the page loads. I also will see a box pop up many times for a milli-second and then disappear with an address in the bottom left of IE. It happens so fast I cant tell what it is.

Anyway, all this has just started happening on my 1 month old computer!!! I have really learned a lesson about not downloading anything suspicious. Thanks again.

Hi and Welcome to TSF!

Please subscribe to this thread to be notified of fixes as soon as they are posted by our Team. To do this, please click the "Thread Tools" button located in the original thread line and selecting "Subscribe to this Thread".

In the meanwhile, I suggest that you stop using Interent Explorer until we've fully disinfected your machine. Please download & use an alternative browser like Firefox.

It's better to print out the next instructions or save them in notepad, because you also have to work in safe mode without networking support, so this page wouldn't be available then.
It is also important you don't miss a step and perform everything in the right order!!.
If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are carrying out the procedures below.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I can't find enough information for this file/program -> C:\Program Files\CMAPP\Client\cmappclient.exe
Right click on that file and go to Properties. Then go to the Version tab and see what information you can get from there (Company, Description, etc.) and post it here.
If you do not know what it is, please visit this website - http://virusscan.jotti.org/
Submit the file - C:\Program Files\CMAPP\Client\cmappclient.exe for a comprehensive scan
Then post the results back here.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Please download these additional files/programs :- (Do not run them unless instructed to do so)
Unplug your computer from the Internet when you have finished downloading

CleanUp! - Install

KillBox v2.0.0.175 - Save to Desktop.

Ewido Security Suite - Install & Update it's database but do not run it yet.

Nailfix - Unzip to the desktop

FindIt's.zip - Unzip to a new folder on Desktop

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Uninstall the following programs, if present, using Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs :
  • Rich Editor
    My Way Speedbar
    My Searchbar
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Copy to clipboard, all the items below by highlighting them & pressing [CTRL]+[C] on your keyboard.
C:\Program Files\MyWaySA\SrchAsDe\1.bin\deSrcAs.dll
C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe
C:\WINDOWS\AuroraHandler.dll (file missing)
C:\WINDOWS\system32\richedtr.dll
C:\DOCUME~1\Dudley\LOCALS~1\Temp\sysnet.exe
C:\WINDOWS\bqqkdll.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\bqqkenc.EXE
c:\windows\system32\twegzu.exe
C:\WINDOWS\svcproc.exe
C:\WINDOWS\xgofsvc.exe
Start KillBox
  1. Go to the File menu, and choose [Paste from Clipboard].
    Verify that you've done this properly by clicking the dropdown-arrow next to the [Full Path of File to Delete] field. The filenames you pasted will be found in there.
  2. Select/tick the following:
    • "Delete on Reboot"
    • "End Explorer Shell While Killing File"
    • "Unregister.dll Before Deleting" if it's not grayed out.
  3. Click the RED X button.
  4. Click [Yes] at the 'Delete on Reboot' prompt. Click [Yes] at the Pending Operations prompt.

* If you receive a message such as: "Component 'MsComCtl.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid." when trying to run TheKillbox, click here to download and run missingfilesetup.exe. Then try Killbox again.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Reboot to SafeMode
  1. Shut Windows down, and then turn off the computer.
  2. Restart the computer. The computer begins processing a set of instructions known as the Basic Input/Output System (BIOS). What is displayed depends on the BIOS manufacturer. Some computers display a progress bar that refers to the word BIOS, while others may not display any indication that this process is happening.
  3. As soon as the BIOS has finished loading, begin tapping the F8 key on your keyboard. Continue to do so until the
    Windows Advanced Options menu appears.
  4. Using the arrow keys on the keyboard, scroll to and select the Safe mode menu item, and then press Enter.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Remove a Malware Service
  1. Click Start>Run - type services.msc.
  2. Locate the Windows VisFx Components service and double-click on it to open the Properties dialog.
  3. Click the Stop button.
  4. In the Startup type dropdown select Disabled.
  5. Click the Apply button and then the Ok button.
  6. Close the Services window
  7. Then start HiJackThis & go to Config>Misc.Tools...>Delete an NT service...
    In the popup box that appears, type in Windows VisFx Components & click the OK button.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Run Nailfix.cmd. Your desktop and icons will disappear and reappear, and a window should open and close very quickly --- this is normal.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Run a scan with HiJackThis & select(tick) the following & click [Fix checked] :

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://bfc.myway.com/search/de_srchlft.html

Here are my results. Thanks for helping me.

In regards to cmappclient.exe, I am not sure what it is.
There is no version tab under properties and no description in the summary.

Here is virusscan.jotti info:

i.e. not sure if you can make anything out of it, but found nothing and given the OK symbol.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
As for problems encountered:

Killbox:
Not all of the lines in red were able to be copied and pasted into the Killbox. I think only about 4 made it. The others would not copy.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Malware:
services.msc was not able to be run. I think it said it was missing?

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

With the 1st HJT scan:
Not all of the listed items in red were found in the scan. All of the ones that were found, I of course deleted.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Finally, here are the logs:

You have done well. Log looks so much cleaner.

cmappclient.exe - Since jotti gave it a clean bill of health, I think we'll leave it alone.

Let's clear up the remainder of the malware.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  1. Go to Start>Run - type regedit
  2. Go to File>Export & save the Registry somewhere as a backup.
  3. After you have done that, Navigate to thes keys -
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\aurora
  4. Right click & delete the key
  5. Close the Registry Editor when you've finished
If any of the above registry keys are giving you problems deleting, right click on them and click on Permissions. Then click on the Advanced button. Make sure the first box (Inherit from parent...) is checked. Click OK and OK. Then try deleting the entry again. Once you're done, close the Registry Editor.
WARNING - Only keys listed in red need to be deleted.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Using HijackThis, select & fix this entry
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [wnfkvb] c:\windows\system32\qyceyi.exe r
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Copy to clipboard, all the items below by highlighting them & pressing [CTRL]+[C] on your keyboard.
c:\windows\system32\qyceyi.exe
C:\WINDOWS\GVPPPC~1.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\VISFXUN.EXE
Start KillBox.
  1. Go to the File menu, and choose Paste from Clipboard.
    Verify that you've done this properly by clicking the dropdown-arrow next to the "Full Path of File to Delete" field. The filenames you pasted will be found in there.
  2. Select/tick the following:
    * Delete on Reboot
    * End Explorer Shell While Killing File
    * "Unregister.dll Before Deleting" if it's not grayed out.
  3. Click the RED X button.
  4. Click [Yes] at the 'Delete on Reboot' prompt.
  5. Click [Yes] at the Pending Operations prompt.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Reboot & post a new HJT log

Findit would only locate suspicious files with the system32 folder. It does not suggest nor indicate any system problems with that folder.

Try running this script. Let's see if that restores the search assistant.

Your log is clean. Well done
Do you have any more problems with your computer? If not, you should be set to go.

However, there still remains a few bits of housekeeping ...

Reset hidden/system files and folders
  • Click Start.
  • Open My Computer.
  • Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
  • Select the View tab.
  • Deselect the Show hidden files and folders option.
  • Select the Hide file extensions for known types option.
  • Select the Hide protected operating system files option.
  • Click Yes to confirm.
  • Click OK.

Clear Java Cache
  1. Click Start >Settings>Control Panel
  2. Click the Java Plugin Icon
  3. Click the Cache tab
  4. Click the Clear button and click OK to confirm
Note: Please repeat this procedure for each "Java Plugin" button in your Control Panel

Follow the instructions outlined here to clear Sun Java's cache.

Create a new System Restore point
  • click Start >> Run - type SYSDM.CPL & press Enter
  • select the System Restore Tab
  • tick on the checkbox - "Turn off System Restore on all drives"
  • click Apply
  • then untick the same checkbox & click OK

Enable Windows Auto Update
