My computer trying to send SPAM through Norton - log inc.
Hi all
After a reboot, and being connected to the internet, after a couple of minutes, norton's proxy email will go crazy and hundreds of emails are trying to be sent. Lots of tiled windows. I can kill the process, but then I can't send or receive email. Logs in Norton say that I am connecting to: Supervisor,SID(192.168.1.10),3464,http://www.xakep.ru(194.67.128.2),ht...,271,277,0.160 Supervisor,http://www.zapateriajeromin.com,3457...,279,372,0.140 Supervisor,SID(192.168.1.10),3446,http://www.hackinthebox.org(203.115....,279,545,0.981 These show about 100 times each + others. I have used AD-aware (with VX2), Spybot S&D, Norton, Stinger, XoftSpy and a couple of others - they all found bits and bobs but are now clear, but the problem persists. Tried TrendMicro but the activeX control generates an error report and closes. Here's the HijackThis log Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1 Scan saved at 09:49:54, on 30/06/2005 Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600) MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP2 (6.00.2900.2180) Running processes: C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\Ati2evxx.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\Ati2evxx.exe C:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXE C:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exe C:\Program Files\Sophos\Remote Update\cachemgr.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccProxy.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccSetMgr.exe C:\Program Files\Norton Internet Security\Norton AntiVirus\navapsvc.exe C:\Program Files\Norton Internet Security\Norton AntiVirus\SAVScan.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\SNDSrvc.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\Program Files\Sophos SWEEP for NT\SWNETSUP.EXE C:\Program Files\Sophos SWEEP for NT\SWEEPSRV.SYS C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccEvtMgr.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\Security Center\SymWSC.exe C:\Program Files\Apoint\Apoint.exe C:\Program Files\ATI Technologies\ATI Control Panel\atiptaxx.exe C:\WINDOWS\ATK0100\Hcontrol.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\ICO.EXE C:\WINDOWS\system32\rundll32.exe C:\Program Files\Apoint\Apntex.exe C:\Program Files\Sony\HotKey Utility\HKserv.exe C:\PROGRA~1\MICROS~3\Office\OUTLOOK.EXE C:\Program Files\sony\vaio update 2\VAIOUpdt.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\ezSP_Px.exe C:\Program Files\Sony\ISB Utility\ISBMgr.exe C:\Program Files\Sony\Wireless Switch Setting Utility\Switcher.exe C:\Program Files\Sony\HotKey Utility\HKWnd.exe C:\Program Files\Elaborate Bytes\DVD Region Killer\RegKillTray.exe C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_02\bin\jusched.exe C:\WINDOWS\ATK0100\ATKOSD.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\qttask.exe C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe C:\Program Files\Google\Google Desktop Search\GoogleDesktop.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\win32.exe C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 4.0\Distillr\AcroTray.exe C:\Program Files\Sophos SWEEP for NT\ICMON.EXE C:\Program Files\Sophos\Remote Update\imonitor.exe C:\Program Files\Google\Google Desktop Search\GoogleDesktopIndex.exe C:\Program Files\Google\Google Desktop Search\GoogleDesktopDisplay.exe C:\Program Files\Google\Google Desktop Search\GoogleDesktopCrawl.exe C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop 7.0\Photoshop.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\dwwin.exe C:\Program Files\Macromedia\Fireworks 3\Fireworks 3.exe C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\Reader\AcroRd32.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\NMain.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccLgView.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\AdBlocking\NSMdtr.exe C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe C:\Documents and Settings\Alex\Desktop\HijackThis.exe R1 - Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.
Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that 'Display the contents of system folders' is checked. If you have Windows XP, the search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that 'Search system folders', 'Search hidden files and folders', and 'Search subfolders' are checked. For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep). Go to Start->Run and type in services.msc and hit OK. Then look for MS Software Generic Host Process for Win32 Services (SVCHOST) and double click on it. Click on the Stop button and under Startup type, choose Disabled. Right click on this link http://www.greyknight17.com/spy/DelO15Domains.inf and choose Save As. Save it to your desktop. Right click on that file and choose Install. It will run immediately (you won't be able to see anything happen). You may delete it afterwards. Restart your computer and boot into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key repeatedly until a menu shows up (and choose Safe Mode from the list). In some systems, this may be the F5 key, so try that if F8 doesn't work. Make sure to close any open browsers. Go into HijackThis->Config->Misc. Tools->Open process manager. Select the following and click 'Kill process' for each one if they are still listed (they shouldn't be - but double check): C:\WINDOWS\System32\win32.exe Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any): O2 - BHO: (no name) - {A8887A4B-A4C7-BDCC-D2C3-363F90E72ABE} - C:\WINDOWS\CdmFiles\qubattmqva.dll O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [wupd] C:\WINDOWS\System32\win32.exe O14 - IERESET.INF: START_PAGE_URL=http://www.club-vaio.sony-europe.com/ O15 - Trusted Zone: *.skoobidoo.com O15 - Trusted Zone: *.slotchbar.com O15 - Trusted Zone: *.sony-europe.com O15 - Trusted Zone: *.sonystyle-europe.com O15 - Trusted Zone: *.vaio-link.com O15 - Trusted Zone: *.windupdates.com O15 - Trusted Zone: *.skoobidoo.com (HKLM) O15 - Trusted Zone: *.slotchbar.com (HKLM) O15 - Trusted Zone: *.windupdates.com (HKLM) O15 - Trusted IP range: 67.19.178.84 O15 - Trusted IP range: 67.19.178.84 (HKLM) O23 - Service: MS Software Generic Host Process for Win32 Services (SVCHOST) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\SVCHOST.exe (file missing) Delete the following Files/Folders (delete folders if no filename is specified) according to their directory (if none, just do a search for them) and delete them if they exist: C:\WINDOWS\CdmFiles\qubattmqva.dll C:\WINDOWS\System32\win32.exe C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\SVCHOST.exe <<From this location ONLY Restart and run a new HijackThis scan. Save the log file and post it here. Please run an online virus scan at Panda ActiveScan. Save the results and bring them with you in your next post. Also - go to http://www.kaspersky.com/scanforvirus and upload: C:\WINDOWS\System32\qttask.exe

Hi Alex. It's strange, some how, between you last log and my instructions you seem to have become un-infected. Win32.exe wasa trojan that would have allowed an attacker access to your system. I'm glad it's gone now.
Download KillBox http://www.greyknight17.com/spy/KillBox.exe. The Temp folders should be cleaned out periodically as installation programs and hijack programs leave a lot of junk there. Download CleanUp! http://cleanup.stevengould.org/ (Alternate Link if main link don't work - http://www.greyknight17.com/spy/CleanUp.exe ) and install it. Do not run it yet. Reboot to Safe Mode. Run KillBox and check the box that says 'End Explorer Shell While Killing File'. Next click on 'Delete on Reboot'. For each of the following files below, check the box that says 'Unregister .dll Before Deleting' if it's not grayed out. Copy and paste each of the following into KillBox (hitting the X button for each file - choose NO when it asks if you want to reboot): C:\Documents and Settings\Alex\Local Settings\Temp\i17.tmp C:\Documents and Settings\Alex\Local Settings\Temp\nst1E.EXE C:\Documents and Settings\Alex\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\CJKNQN8R\vxxv[1].php C:\Program Files\sami\emia.exe C:\WINDOWS\browserxtras\pn\remove.exe C:\WINDOWS\SSK3_B5.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\vx.tll C:\WINDOWS\system32\vxh8jkdq5.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\vxh8jkdq7.exe C:\WINDOWS\weirdontheweb_topc.exe D:\My Documents\Downloads\qk_setup.exe Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu). Set the program up as follows: *Click "Options..." *Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!" *Put a check next to the following:
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program. Reboot/logoff when prompted. WARNING - CleanUp! will delete all files and folders contained within Temporary Directories. If you knowingly have items you would liek to keep stored in these locations, Move them now!!! Reboot the computer back to Normal Mode and provide us with a new HJT log. At this point I would update and run Adware and Spybot. Fix anything they find.

Your log is clean.
Please clear your System Restore Points by doing the following: To turn off System Restore,Click Start > right-click My Computer and then click Properties. Click the System Restore tab > Check "Turn off System Restore" or "Turn off System Restore on all drives". Click Apply. When turning off System Restore, the existing restore points will be deleted. Click Yes to do this. Click OK. Reboot your System. Now create a new Restore Point: To turn on System Restore,Click Start. Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties. Click the System Restore tab. Uncheck "Turn off System Restore" or "Turn off System Restore on all drives." Click Apply, and then OK. To help prevent future spyware installations/infections, please read the Anti-Spyware Tutorial http://www.greyknight17.com/spyware.htm#prevent and use the tools provided. Are there any problems now? If not, you should be set to go.

I don't seem to have any problems now other than a general slower speed than before I installed SP2 (which I did before I found this site to try and stop the problem). Donation made Your help is very much appreciated. Cheers Alex |
