Hit by Trojans, Malware etc etc!!!

ok im experiencing random slowdowns, denial of access and other random problems. ad-aware catches the problems but they pop up again and again. NAV pops up messages about a trojan virus but cannot remove it. please help. im including my HJ log:

Then go to Start>Run - type cmd (command prompt window opens)
type del /f /q C:\WINDOWS\system\bakmc.dll

and screwed up i think. now i cant go to any msn sites like messenger and hotmail. help please.

Then open another run window by doing this ...

nope didnt fix the msn problem. basically tried to run system restore a couple of times yesterday. always message came back after reboot that system restore did not succeed.

from the other link i tried ALL the steps. with the new trojans/malware file names of course. ran HJ, copy-pasted the files i wanted to delete including the one bakmc.dll file but not the other into killbox. also the file names that adaware identified. tht was silly i think cause they were just reg keys i think.

Please do the following:

L2mfix - Download & Save to Desktop

This is a self extracting file. By double clicking on it, it will automatically extract it's contents to a new folder on Desktop.

1. Double click L2mfix.exe.
2. When prompted, answer "Accept"
3. Then click the "Install" button to extract the files to a newly created folder named - L2mfix
4. Open the L2mfix folder & double click L2mfix.bat
5. Select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing "1" and pressing Enter.

This will scan your computer and it may appear as if nothing is happening for a period of few minutes. When it has finished, you will be presented with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

Please download the attachment posted in this thread named vundo.txt to your Desktop.
Vundo.B ... but .dll identified not present ?

Right click the file..and rename it to vundo.reg.

DO NOT run it yet.

Then boot up in SAFE MODE. This fix MUST be done in safe mode.

Unzip Process Explorer and double click on procexp.exe

In the top section of the Process Explorer screen double click on winlogon.exe to bring up the winlogon.exe properties screen. Click on the Threads tab at the top.

Once you see this screen click on each instance of bakmc.dll once and then click the KILL button.

After you have killed all of the bakmc.dll's under winlogon click OK.

Also look for any .ini or .bak files or other dll's with either the same name or the file name in reverse & kill them as well.

Next double click on explorer.exe and again click once on each instance of bakmc.dll then click the KILL button.

Click on the Threads tab at the top.

Once you have done that click OK again.

Next run HijackThis and place a check beside each of the following.

Run KILL box. Paste the following locations into KILL BOX one at a time. Checkmark the box that says "Delete on Reboot" and Click the RED X and it will ask you to confirm the file for deletion…say YES and when the next box opens prompting you to reboot now...click NO...and proceed with the next file. Once you get to the last one click YES and it will reboot.

C:\WINDOWS\system\bakmc.dll

**Note** Add any of the ini or bak filenames you found to this deletion process. If you only found bakmc.dll then click YES...when it asks you to reboot.

Once you reboot.....post another hijackthis log to confirm what was removed.

We were dealing with a virus called Trojan.Vundo.B. This miscreant has the characteristic of creating multiple instances of itself with the same name (or name in reverse) with different file extensions.

Eg.

bakmc.ini
bakmc.dll
cmkab.ini (name in reverse)

Well, the good news is that your log is finally clean. Do you have any more problems with your computer? If not, you should be set to go.

However, there still remains a few bits of housekeeping ...

Reset hidden/system files and folders

• Click Start.
• Open My Computer.
• Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
• Select the View tab.
• Deselect the Show hidden files and folders option.
• Select the Hide file extensions for known types option.
• Select the Hide protected operating system files option.
• Click Yes to confirm.
• Click OK.

Clear Java Cache
You may clear your Java cache by folowing the instructions outlined here > http://www.elluminate.com/support/fa...lear_cache.jsp

Create a new System Restore point

• click Start >> Run - type SYSDM.CPL & press Enter
• select the System Restore Tab
• tick on the checkbox - "Turn off System Restore on all drives"
• click Apply
• then untick the same checkbox & click OK

Enable Windows Auto Update

• Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > System > Automatic Updates
• tick on the checkbox - "Keep my computer up to date"
• Under settings, choose "Automatically download the updates, and install them on the schedule that I specify".
• Click on "OK".

Now that you are clean, to help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you get the following free programs:

• SpywareBlaster to help prevent spyware from installing in the first place.
• SpywareGuard to catch and block spyware before it can execute.
• IESpy-Ad to block access to malicious websites so you cannot be redirected to them from an infected site or email.

If you do not have a firewall, here are 3 free ones available for personal use:

• Sygate Personal Firewall
• Kerio Personal Firewall
• ZoneAlarm

and a good antivirus like the one you are currently using. It is critical to have both a firewall and an anti-virus application and to keep them updated.

hey thnks a lot. u da man. the prgrs i do have are:

norton internet security 2005(which has firewall, antivirus etc). spyware guard, MS antispyware, spywareblaster, spybot, ad-aware 1.05 pro. reg cleaner, clean up. all constantly updated.

but i guess malicious code writers are always one step ahead.
