I have a hijackthis log, please could you help
hello, well I am running Windows XP, and a few months ago, my computer was playing up, so I managed to find out that there was a 'backdoor' virus, and I think I managed to get rid of it. Well I thought I had, however, now my computer seems to just freeze at random times, and I have to switch it off, and turn it on again, it does this regularly, and I have scanned for viruses, using norton, but nothing significant comes up, If anyone could help, it would be appreciated, thanx. here is the log I did using the hijackthis analyser:

oh, also, the sound on my computer is temperamental, since I installed a bluetooth dongle, it sort of took over my sound, but then, once I realised what the problem was, I uninstalled it, however, now when I want to listen to music, a sign comes up saying, 'bad DirectSound driver', and so I'm not sure what that means. When I restart the computer, sometimes the sound will work, sometimes it won't its very hit and miss..I'm lost as to what to do!!

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.
Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that 'Display the contents of system folders' is checked. If you have Windows XP, the search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that 'Search system folders', 'Search hidden files and folders', and 'Search subfolders' are checked. For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep). Restart your computer and boot into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key repeatedly until a menu shows up (and choose Safe Mode from the list). In some systems, this may be the F5 key, so try that if F8 doesn't work. Make sure to close any open browsers. Uninstall the following via the Add/Remove Panel (Start->(Settings)->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs) if they exist: MyQuickSearch Search Assistant Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any): R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://www.gwaayelwaxfvardxothjvxb....YmAZ05Yda0H.htm R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch = R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - _{CFBFAE00-17A6-11D0-99CB-00C04FD64497} - (no file) O1 - Hosts: 64.91.255.87 www.dcsresearch.com O2 - BHO: MyQuickSearch Search Assistant BHO - {04011C11-2F3B-44ed-977C-270CA669C6B2} - C:\Program Files\MyQuickSearch\SrchAstt\1.bin\MQSSRCAS.DLL O2 - BHO: (no name) - {5C8B2A36-3DB1-42A4-A3CB-D426709BBFEB} - (no file) O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [JVM0.12] C:\WINDOWS\system32\xkzwgq.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Windows] run.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Anti-Virus Update Scheduler V1.39.12R] C:\msvc.exe O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [Windows] run.exe Delete the following Files/Folders (delete folders if no filename is specified) according to their directory (if none, just do a search for them) and delete them if they exist: C:\Program Files\MyQuickSearch\ C:\WINDOWS\system32\xkzwgq.exe C:\msvc.exe run.exe << Search and Delete Restart and run a new HijackThis scan. Save the log file and post it here. Run an online virus scan here at Panda ActiveScan: http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/activescan. Make sure Auto Disinfect is checked. Bring back the results when it it complete.

hello, thank you very much for replying, you said I should delete the file named: C:\WINDOWS\system32\xkzwgq.exe however, this file is not on my computer, but there is a file called: C:\WINDOWS|system32\xkzwgq.dat , should I delete this?
Also, the file: C:\msvc.exe is not on my computer, but there is a file: C:\WINDOWS\Prefetch\MSVC.exe - 15A114E8.pf , should I leave this file? And, run.exe I found was : C:\WINDOWS\Prefetch\Run.exe - 05576713.pf should I leave this file? Once I know, about these files, I will continue with the rest of your suggestions, thank you very much again. |

What to do next. OK.
The Temp folders should be cleaned out periodically as installation programs and hijack programs leave a lot of junk there. Download CleanUp! http://cleanup.stevengould.org/ (Alternate Link if main link don't work - http://www.greyknight17.com/spy/CleanUp.exe ) and install it. Do not run it yet. Please download Ad-aware at http://www.lavasoftusa.com/ and install it if you don't have it already. Make sure it's the newest version and check for any updates before running it. Also go to http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/...2cleaner.shtml to download the plug-in for fixing VX2 variants. To run this tool, go into Ad-aware->Add-ons and select VX2 Cleaner. Then click Run Tool and OK to start it. If it's clean, it will say Status System Clean. Otherwise, you will have to click on the Clean button to remove the VX2 infection. Also make sure to customize the settings in Ad-aware at http://www.greyknight17.com/spyware.htm#adaware for better scan results. Run the scan and fix everything that it finds. Download and install Spybot S&D http://security.kolla.de/. Run Spybot and click on the 'Search for Updates' button. Install any updates that are available. Now click Mode menu and choose 'Advanced Mode'. Next click on Immunize to your left. Click the Immunize button (green cross) on top to Immunize your computer - you should do this each time there is an update. Now go to Tools->Resident and make sure that TeaTimer is checked. What this will do is monitor any system/registry changes and will ask you for permission to change any of these settings. Now click on the 'Spybot-S&D' option on the top left to go back to the main screen. Next click on the 'Check for Problems' button. Let it run the scan. If it finds something, check all those in RED and hit the 'Fix Selected Problems' button. Exit Spybot. If you keep getting the DSO Exploit entries, even after you updated Windows and fixed them, then download the Spybot DSO Exploit Fix http://majorgeeks.com/download4392.html and install it over the current Spybot installation. Download KillBox http://www.greyknight17.com/spy/KillBox.exe. Reboot the computer to Safe Mode Go into Add/Remove and uninstall MyWay if it is listed. Run KillBox and check the box that says 'End Explorer Shell While Killing File'. Next click on 'Delete on Reboot'. For each of the following files below, check the box that says 'Unregister .dll Before Deleting' if it's not grayed out. Copy and paste each of the following into KillBox (hitting the X button for each file - choose NO when it asks if you want to reboot): C:\Program Files\MyWay C:\Temp\FLEOK C:\Documents and Settings\Lene\Application Data\Lycos C:\WINDOWS\system32\wsaupdater.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\newmsrdk C:\WINDOWS\system32\wsaupdater.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\xmlparse.dll C:\WINDOWS\system32\xmltok.dll C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\popcaploader.inf C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\LOUD VGA ONLINE MEAL\city poll.exe C:\Documents and Settings\Lene\Local Settings\Temp\bis215.exe C:\Temp\salmau.dat C:\Temp\salm_kyf.dat Run CleanUp! and click on CleanUp! button. Once it's done, you may click the Close button. When asked if you want to logoff, choose Yes. Reboot back to Normal Mode and run a new HJT scan. Run an new ActiviveScan at Panda and then return to TSF with BOTH results. A question please: I see you have AvaFind installed on your computer. I understand this is Shareware and is a utility for search for files on your computer. Tell me, is this the Shareware version? Does it display advertisements while you use it??

hi,, nope the Ava Finder does not show adverts when I use it, so I dont think it is the Shareware one. I had to install it, as the search that comes with windows does not work for me anymore. Like, the little dog comes up, but no dialogue box, or anything, so I have no way to search for files on my computer..

After you have completed the above instructions - do the following:
Go to Start->Run and type in sfc /scannow and hit OK. Let it scan. If it finds any files missing/corrupted, it may ask for the Windows CD.

hi, ah ok then, well at least things aren't worse. Ritey, well when I ran adaware and spybot, erm, let's see now, adaware found infected files, they were cookies, and I got rid of them, and spybot brought some things up and i got rid of them too. Should I run them all again? I have deleted the files you said above, and now I will do the panda scan. thanx
