Adwatch catches suspicious file
Everytime I boot this computer Adwatch flags up this file
C:\windows\system32\cmd.exe/c erase "c:\docume~1suszi\locals~1\temp\acsinstall.dll Not recognising any part of the file path I'm reluctant to 'accept' this and hit 'block' instead. Frankly the words 'C erase' frighten the life out of me. I have followed all the instructions in your Hijackthis Log Help and post the result.txt file below. Hello 3phase and welcome to TSF,
Isn't is nice to know your anti-malware programs are doing their job Please print out or copy this page to Notepad since you will not have any of browsers open while you are fixing this. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. Again, you should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below. Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that 'Display the contents of system folders' is checked. If you have Windows XP, the search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that 'Search system folders', 'Search hidden files and folders', and 'Search subfolders' are checked. The Temp folders should be cleaned out periodically as installation programs and hijack programs leave a lot of junk there. Download CleanUp! (Alternate Link if main link doesn't work) and install it. Do not run it yet. If you have a fast internet connection (broadband), run an online virus scan at TrendMicro http://uk.trendmicro-europe.com/ente...all_launch.php. Just follow the instructions on the site to run the online scan. If any viruses/trojans are detected, try to delete or clean them in that site. You may use Panda ActiveScan also at http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/activescan. Otherwise, make sure your antivirus program has the latest definitions and run a full system scan. Reboot your system in Safe Mode (By repeatedly tapping the F8 key until the menu appears). Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any): O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [1] C:\WINDOWS\system32\cmd.exe /c erase "C:\DOCUME~1\Suzsi\LOCALS~1\Temp\AcsInstall.dll" Run CleanUp! and click on CleanUp! button. When it asks you if you want to logoff, click on Yes. Reboot into Normal Mode run a new HijackThis scan and post the log here. |

Fix this in Normal mode:
O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [1] C:\WINDOWS\system32\cmd.exe /c erase "C:\DOCUME~1\Suzsi\LOCALS~1\Temp\AcsInstall.dll" Run Cleanup and Log Off. Reboot and rescan - report back with the new HJT log. If the file still exists: Download KillBox http://www.greyknight17.com/spy/KillBox.exe. Run KillBox and check the box that says 'End Explorer Shell While Killing File'. Next click on 'Delete on Reboot'. For each of the following files below, check the box that says 'Unregister .dll Before Deleting' if it's not grayed out. Copy and paste each of the following into KillBox (hitting the X button for each file - choose NO when it asks if you want to reboot): C:\DOCUME~1\Suzsi\LOCALS~1\Temp\AcsInstall.dll

POADB success
Thanks,
looks like it's gone now (I'll take your advice on that?) You asked that I run a further Hijackthis scan after CleanUp - the log is pasted below. Certainly now when I run AdAware at start-up AdWatch no-longer flags up the offending file named at the start of this thread. Hi,
Your log is clean. If there are no more problems, you should be all set. Turn off System Restore Click Start > Right Click My Computer > Properties. Click the System Restore tab and Check "Turn off System Restore" or "Turn off System Restore on all drives". Click Apply. When turning off System Restore, the existing restore points will be deleted. Click Yes to do this then Click OK. Now reenable system restore. This will prevent any reinfection from any previous restore points. To help prevent future spyware installations/infections, please read the Anti-Spyware Tutorial http://www.greyknight17.com/spyware.htm#prevent and use the tools/programs provided. |
