Welcome to TSF.
I want you to upload this file (C:\WINDOWS\wkssvc.exe) to this site and submit it. Post back the analysis it returned. Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below. Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that 'Display the contents of system folders' is checked. If you have Windows XP, the search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that 'Search system folders', 'Search hidden files and folders', and 'Search subfolders' are checked. For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep). The Temp folders should be cleaned out periodically as installation programs and hijack programs leave a lot of junk there. Download CleanUp! http://cleanup.stevengould.org/ (Alternate Link if main link don't work - http://www.greyknight17.com/spy/Cleanup.exe ) and install it. Don't run it yet. Reboot into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key repeatedly until a menu shows up (and choose Safe Mode from the list). In some systems, this may be the F5 key, so try that if F8 doesn't work. Make sure to close any open browsers. Uninstall the following via the Add/Remove Panel (Start->(Settings)->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs) if they exist: Media Access Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any): R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar,LinksFolderName = O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ld] C:\documents and settings\michael oshiro\local settings\temp\ld.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [lWhAJ.exe] c:\windows\system32\lWhAJ.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [UgpRX] C:\windows\system32\UgpRX.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Anti-Virus Update Scheduler V1.39.12R] C:\lanman.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Media Access] C:\Program Files\Media Access\MediaAccK.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [7oGEVYq8Z] C:\documents and settings\michael oshiro\local settings\temp\7oGEVYq8Z.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [7] C:\windows\system32\7.exe O15 - Trusted Zone: http://ny.contentmatch.net (HKLM) O16 - DPF: {41F17733-B041-4099-A042-B518BB6A408C} - http://appldnld.m7z.net/content.inf...iTunesSetup.exe Delete the following Files/Folders (delete folders if no filename is specified) according to their directory (if none, just do a search for them) and delete them if they exist: C:\lanman.exe c:\windows\system32\lWhAJ.exe C:\windows\system32\UgpRX.exe C:\Program Files\Media Access\ C:\windows\system32\7.exe Run CleanUp! and click on CleanUp! button. When it asks you if you want to logoff, click on Yes. Reboot into Normal Mode run a new HijackThis scan. Save the log file and post it here.

Ok so I did everything you guys asked, the window is still popping up. Media access I believe that I removed at some other time, so it wasnt there. I could not find these files to delete:
c:\windows\system32\lWhAJ.exe C:\windows\system32\UgpRX.exe C:\windows\system32\7.exe This is what it said when I ran the malware scan: The file you uploaded is 0 bytes. It is very likely a firewall or a piece of malware is prohibiting you from uploading this file I have a wedding most of the day on Sat I'm going to, so I'll get back to you on Sunday. Thanks so far with the help! Yosh Last edited by yoshdizzle; 05-28-2005 at 01:44 AM. Reason: left out scan |

Greetings, and welcome to TSF! This is a sneaky one.
=============== Download, unzip to your desktop CWShredder and run it, then: 1. Click "Check For Update" (If an update isn't available, skip to step #4.) 2. Click "Click here to Download the upate". 3. When the new version has been downloaded, click "Save". 4. Click "Fix ->" =============== Next, Open a command prompt by: 1. Clicking "Start", then "Run...". 2. Enter "cmd" (without the quotes). 3. Enter "services.msc" (without the quotes). - Now, locate and 'stop' the following services, if present: Workstation Service Library (Microsoft Locator Service) owner ... (C:\WINDOWS\wkssvc.exe) Look carefully, since the name of the service (above) can be anywhere in the entry; also be careful not to 'stop' any required system services. =============== Run HiJackThis then: 1. Click "Config..." 2. Click "Misc Tools" 3. Click "Open Process manager" - Next, while holding down the CTRL key, locate (if present) and click on (highlight) each of the following: C:\WINDOWS\wkssvc.exe Now double-check and make sure that only those item(s) above are highlighted, then click "Kill process". Now, click "Refresh", check again, and repeat this step if any remain. =============== Run HiJackThis and click "Scan", then check(tick) the following, if present: O23 - Service: Workstation Service Library (Microsoft Locator Service) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\wkssvc.exe Now, with all windows closed except HiJackThis, click "Fix checked". =============== Locate and delete the following item(s), if present. Make sure your able to view system and hidden files/ folders: files... C:\WINDOWS\wkssvc.exe - Note that some of these file(s) may or may not be present. If present, and cannot be deleted because they're 'in use', try deleting them from "Safe Mode". =============== Post back a new log, and let us know how everything goes. |

We'll need to look a little deeper.
Let's use a program to scan for any trojans that may exist. Download TDS-3 http://tds.diamondcs.com.au/index.php?page=download. Learn how to use it at http://tds.diamondcs.com.au/index.php?page=easytouse. Make sure to update it after you installed it. You can get the manual updates at http://tds.diamondcs.com.au/index.php?page=update. When you launch the program, it will scan your memory for running processes. This will take less than 30 seconds. Next go to 'System Testing' on the menu and choose 'Full System Scan'. After that's finished, post the log file by selecting everything on the top pane (select from bottom to top). If any alarms are found, it will be listed in the bottom window. Please copy and paste that here also if it applies. If you have problems copying the text, look (or search) for a file named scandump.txt and see if that has the alarms - post that here. |

Ok..lets try this again....
If you have a highspeed connection please Run an online virus scan from TrendMicro Please select the “autoclean” option when prompted to do so. Download KillBox http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/file...re/KillBox.zip Run the cleanup utility and reboot/logoff when prompted. Reboot into Safe Mode (hit F8 key until menu shows up). Make sure to close any open browsers. Go into HijackThis->Config->Misc. Tools->Open process manager. Select the following and click Kill process for each one if they are still listed (they shouldn't be but make sure) C:\WINDOWS\wkssvc.exe Go to Start->Run and type Services.msc then hit Ok Scroll down and find the service called: Workstation Service Library (Microsoft Locator Service) When you find it, double-click on it. In the next window that opens, click the Stop button, then click on properties and under the General Tab, change the Startup Type to Disabled. Now hit Apply and then Ok and close the window. Now Click Start>Run, type cmd into the Open editbox and click the Ok button. Copy/paste the line below into the Command Prompt window and press the Enter key: sc delete Microsoft Locator Service Close the Command Prompt window Run hijackthis and fix the following... O23 - Service: Workstation Service Library (Microsoft Locator Service) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\wkssvc.exe Run KILL box. Paste the following locations into KILL BOX one at a time. Checkmark the box that says "Delete on Reboot" and checkmark the box "Unregister DLL" (If available) Click the RED X and it will ask you to confirm the file for deletion…say YES and when the next box opens prompting you to reboot now...click NO...and proceed with the next file. Once you get to the last one click YES and it will reboot. C:\WINDOWS\wkssvc.exe c:\windows\userint32.exe Once done reboot into Normal Mode and post a new HijackThis log file to confirm what was removed and if it's clean or not.

Your log is clean. Any more issues? If not you should be set. Please disable system restore and then re-enable it. This will clear the infection out of the restore folders.
Please read through the spyware prevention section on how to protect yourself from spyware/adware Here and use the recommend programs and methods to protect yourself!
