Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.
Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that 'Display the contents of system folders' is checked. If you have Windows XP, the search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that 'Search system folders', 'Search hidden files and folders', and 'Search subfolders' are checked. For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep). The Temp folders should be cleaned out periodically as installation programs and hijack programs leave a lot of junk there. Download CleanUp! http://cleanup.stevengould.org/ (Alternate Link if main link don't work - http://www.greyknight17.com/spy/Cleanup.exe ) and install it. We will use this later. Reboot into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key until menu shows up. In some systems, this may be the F5 key, so try that if F8 doesn't work. Make sure to close any open browsers. Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any): R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/cus...rch/search.html R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/cus...//www.yahoo.com R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/cus...//www.yahoo.com R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/cus...rch/search.html R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/cus...//www.yahoo.com R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/cus...//www.yahoo.com O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WinProfile] sndcfg16.exe O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [WinProfile] sndcfg16.exe O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [I/O Controllers] svcnet.exe O9 - Extra button: Related - {c95fe080-8f5d-11d2-a20b-00aa003c157a} - C:\WINDOWS\web\related.htm O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Show &Related Links - {c95fe080-8f5d-11d2-a20b-00aa003c157a} - C:\WINDOWS\web\related.htm Delete the following Files/Folders in RED (delete folders if no filename is specified) according to their directory (if none, just do a search for them) and delete them if they exist: sndcfg16.exe<<<search for this one svcnet.exe<<<search for this one C:\WINDOWS\web Let's use a program to scan for any trojans that may exist. Download TDS-3 http://tds.diamondcs.com.au/index.php?page=download. Learn how to use it at http://tds.diamondcs.com.au/index.php?page=easytouse. Make sure to update it after you installed it. You can get the manual updates at http://tds.diamondcs.com.au/index.php?page=update. When you launch the program, it will scan your memory for running processes. This will take less than 30 seconds. Next go to 'System Testing' on the menu and choose 'Full System Scan'. After that's finished, post the log file by selecting everything on the top pane (select from bottom to top). If any alarms are found, it will be listed in the bottom window. Please copy and paste that here also if it applies. If you have problems copying the text, look (or search) for a file named scandump.txt and see if that has the alarms - post that here. Run CleanUp! and click on CleanUp! button. When it asks you if you want to logoff, click on Yes. Reboot into Normal Mode run a new HijackThis scan. Save the log file and run KRC HijackThis Analyzer http://www.greyknight17.com/spy/KRC...%20Analyzer.zip in the same folder to get the result.txt log. Just post the contents of the result.txt file in your next reply. __________________

McAfee
Is occasionally still picking up the virus and deleting it while it is monitoring. However, i just now did the system restore part. So if it still continues, I will repost again.
Also, I lost my default windows xp desktop theme. Now I have the entire windows environment looking like windows 95, u know set for performance type settings. I've tried everything to get it back, I assume I inadvertenly removed it doing one of ur instructions??? Last edited by rhymeratic; 05-28-2005 at 12:26 PM. |

Lol
I know I did that, my Windows XP theme has no green grass pic or nada. Just a blue screen and the old school grey taskbar. I've tried clickin on other themes as well, those seem to be ok but the windows xp styled taskbar and green grass background is no longer available....

Still no go for Windows XP theme
No matter what I do I cannot get the original Windows XP theme. I have decided to download and use themexp and just select something from there. Unless you have another solution, I guess I can live like this. Oh yeah and my computer has been virus free since, I thank you a million times over for that.
