Same Problem as someone else had?
Please help me guys. My son was on the computer and doing a bunch of stuff he should not have been doing and now I have the same problem as this guy. I am not sure how to get the Hijackthis to run but noticed you guys figured it out for someone else in this thread.
.exe changed to .lnk I am hoping someone can help me please. I would greatly appreciate it. I have not made a backup in a few months. Cannot even use sytem restore? Thanks in advance Chris |

I have tried opening regedit and notepad and cannot do either? I was going to try and install the XP fix for association files and the other fix you guys posted on that thread but no luck? Any ideas

Goto -> http://vil.nai.com/vil/averttools.asp Under the utilities download Fixswen.inf, once downloaded Right-click on it and choose install. See if that lets you run exe files again, if so post up a hijackthis log. Run an online scan at Trend Micro or RAV Antivirus. Please select the autoclean option when using Trend Micro. Please let me the know the names of any viri that are found. If these don't work report back here.

I appreciate the help but I got the problem fixed. I am getting a little better at this stuff...LOL
I somehow managed to get the Windows registry fixes to install on the registry and then ran viruscan and found the java.nocheat virus. Got it cleaned out and then rebooted and got the linkreg installed. Had to install the zip fix first though. I hope this helps someone in the future. Chris |
