Virus: C:\windows\system32\rdriv.sys
Hello everyone, last week or so I got a popup from Norton Antivirus notifying me of a Trojan Horse with an Object name of C:\windows\system32\rdriv.sys.
I've been browsing the forum and I downloaded hijack this and ran a scan. Here's what it says: Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1 Scan saved at 4:31:14 PM, on 5/15/2005 Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600) MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP2 (6.00.2900.2180) Running processes: C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\LEXBCES.EXE C:\Program Files\Stardock\Object Desktop\WindowBlinds\wbload.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\LEXPPS.EXE C:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exe C:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXE C:\Program Files\Logitech\iTouch\iTouch.exe C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.2_04\bin\jusched.exe C:\PROGRA~1\NORTON~1\navapw32.exe C:\Program Files\Microsoft AntiSpyware\gcasServ.exe C:\Program Files\Zone Labs\ZoneAlarm\zlclient.exe C:\program files\TheWeatherNetwork\WeatherEye\WeatherEye.exe C:\Documents and Settings\Dustin\Desktop\FreeRAM XP Pro 1.40.exe C:\Program Files\CursorXP\CursorXP.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\ctfmon.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\CTsvcCDA.EXE C:\Program Files\Logitech\MouseWare\system\em_exec.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\dcfssvc.exe C:\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus\navapsvc.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\nvsvc32.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\tcpsvcs.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\snmp.exe C:\Program Files\Microsoft AntiSpyware\gcasDtServ.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\ZONELABS\vsmon.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\MsPMSPSv.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\Security Center\SymWSC.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\msiexec.exe C:\Program Files\MSN Messenger\msnmsgr.exe C:\Documents and Settings\Dustin\Desktop\HijackThis.exe R0 - I also tried the online virus checker (trend micro??) and it didnt remove it either. Norton doesnt seem to do anything, it notifies me of the problem, but it says it can't repair it and it says access to the file is denied. Does anyone have any suggestions?? Thanks so much! |

Thanks for the help.
I did as you requested, but did have a problem when trying to find the files in windows explorer I managed to find C:\windows\ssms.exe and delele it but the other two files: C:\winnt\system32\mskev.exe and C:\winnt\system32\msdevctrl.exe I could not find. I have no winnt folder. I do have c:\windows\system32 and I looked in there but I could not find mskev.exe or msdevctrl.exe. I did a search of my whole hard drive (including hidden and system files) and could not find them. Aso, regarding R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing, I did as you asked and checked it and fixed it using Hijack This, but noticed when I restarted my computer, Microsoft Antispyware popped up a notice saying it was allowing this application change or something like that. Is this ok? Anyways, here is an updated log file: Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1 Scan saved at 11:56:18 PM, on 5/15/2005 Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600) MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP2 (6.00.2900.2180) Running processes: C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\LEXBCES.EXE C:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\CTsvcCDA.EXE C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\dcfssvc.exe C:\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus\navapsvc.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\nvsvc32.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\tcpsvcs.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\snmp.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\ZONELABS\vsmon.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\MsPMSPSv.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\Security Center\SymWSC.exe C:\Program Files\Stardock\Object Desktop\WindowBlinds\wbload.exe C:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXE C:\Program Files\Logitech\iTouch\iTouch.exe C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.2_04\bin\jusched.exe C:\PROGRA~1\NORTON~1\navapw32.exe C:\Program Files\Microsoft AntiSpyware\gcasServ.exe C:\Program Files\Zone Labs\ZoneAlarm\zlclient.exe C:\Program Files\Microsoft AntiSpyware\gcasDtServ.exe C:\Program Files\Logitech\MouseWare\system\em_exec.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\lexpps.exe C:\program files\TheWeatherNetwork\WeatherEye\WeatherEye.exe C:\Documents and Settings\Dustin\Desktop\FreeRAM XP Pro 1.40.exe C:\Program Files\CursorXP\CursorXP.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\ctfmon.exe C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe C:\Program Files\HijackThis.exe R0 -
