Hello and Welcome to TSF

Download and install: HiJackThis.

(Always create a Folder for HiJackThis anywhere but your Temp/Temporary Internet Folders or Desktop. A good place to make a folder would be in My Documents, as this is where it will save the backup files needed if there's a problem.)

Then doubleclick HijackThis.exe, and hit "Do A System Scan And Save Log". Make sure all Windows and Browsers are closed.
When the scan is finished, best to save your text file in the same folder as where you put HiJackthis.

Copy/Paste the info from your saved Hijackthis log file into this thread.

A Moderator/ Security Team Expert will give you instructions.

Hi,
I have downloaded this as suggested, but keep getting the following error when I try to double click on the file:

! C:\Documents and Settings\Lisa and Jimmy\My Documents\hijackthis.zip: Either multipart or corrupt ZIP archive
! Cannot execute "C:\DOCUME~1\LISAAN~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\Rar$EX13.542\HijackThis.exe"
! C:\Documents and Settings\Lisa and Jimmy\My Documents\hijackthis.zip: Either multipart or corrupt ZIP archive

Any ideas?
Thanks
Lisa

Greetings!

When we're done cleaning off your system, i'd recommend that you install all the critical windows updates available from Microsoft, upto service pack 1. This will help to make your system more secure and prevent many 'problems' from reoccuring in the future.

===============

Go to www.trendmicro.com, and then:

1. Click "Free Online Scan".
2. Click "Scan now, it's free".

It'll take a few minutes to download (especially with a dialup connection), so be patient. When it's down:

1. Select all available drives.
2. Check(tick) "Auto Clean".
3. Click "Scan".

When it completes, post back the full filename of any files that cannot be cleaned or deleted.

===============

Download, unzip to your desktop CWShredder and run it, then:

1. Click "Check For Update"

(If an update isn't available, skip to step #4.)

2. Click "Click here to Download the upate".
3. When the new version has been downloaded, click "Save".
4. Click "Fix ->"

===============

Let's look for, and delete, any program segments(prefetches) that might be present, and are associated with the 'problems' we're trying to remove from this system. To do this, let's:

1) Click "Start | Search", then search for each of these program's base name(s), in all files and folders:

CxtPls.exe*

2) Then if any are found in the 'prefetch' folder, delete them.

Look closely, since the 'base' name will have a bunch of random numbers and letters attached to it.

===============

Go to Add/Remove programs and remove(uninstall) the following, if present:

EZula Toptext
SEP
Web Related

The above could appear anywhere within the entry. Be careful not to remove any personal or system software.

===============

Run HiJackThis then:

1. Click "Config..."
2. Click "Misc Tools"
3. Click "Open Process manager"

-

Next, while holding down the CTRL key, locate (if present) and click on (highlight) each of the following:

C:\PROGRA~1\ezula\mmod.exe
C:\Program Files\CxtPls\CxtPls.exe

Now double-check and make sure that only those item(s) above are highlighted, then click "Kill process". Now, click "Refresh", check again, and repeat this step if any remain.

===============

Now, let's open a command prompt and unregister the dll(s) we're going to remove, by entering the following:

regsvr32 /u cxtpls.dll
regsvr32 /u sep.dll
regsvr32 /u esyn.dll

It's ok, if these aren't found or 'error' out. If you want, just copy and paste the individual lines to the command prompt to save on the typing.

===============

Run HiJackThis and click "Scan", then check(tick) the following, if present:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {016235BE-59D4-4CEB-ADD5-E2378282A1D9} - C:\Program Files\CxtPls\cxtpls.dll
O2 - BHO: Band Class - {C5183ABC-EB6E-4E05-B8C9-500A16B6CF94} - C:\Program Files\SEP\sep.dll
O2 - BHO: Band Class - {CC378B83-9577-44D0-B4F8-0DD965E176FC} - C:\Program Files\eSyndicate\esyn.dll

O3 - Toolbar: Band Class - {C5183ABC-EB6E-4E05-B8C9-500A16B6CF94} - C:\Program Files\SEP\sep.dll

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [eZmmod] C:\PROGRA~1\ezula\mmod.exe
O4 - Global Startup: KODAK Picture Transfer Software.lnk = ?
O4 - Global Startup: PayPal Plug-In for Outlook Express.lnk = ?

O9 - Extra button: Related - {c95fe080-8f5d-11d2-a20b-00aa003c157a} - C:\WINDOWS\web\related.htm
O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Show &Related Links - {c95fe080-8f5d-11d2-a20b-00aa003c157a} - C:\WINDOWS\web\related.htm

O16 - DPF: {FF65677A-8977-48CA-916A-DFF81B037DF3} (WMService Class) - http://download.overpro.com/WildAppNonUS.cab

Now, with all windows closed except HiJackThis, click "Fix checked".

===============

Locate and delete the following item(s), if present. Make sure your able to view system and hidden files/ folders:

folders...

C:\PROGRA~1\ezula
C:\Program Files\CxtPls
C:\Program Files\SEP
C:\Program Files\eSyndicate

-

Note that some of these file(s) may or may not be present. If present, and cannot be deleted because they're 'in use', try deleting them from "Safe Mode".

===============

Post back a new log, and let me know how everything goes.

Hi,
I have run the virus checker as recommended and it removed the following malware:
WORM_AGOBOT.ALP
It also found the following viruses:
TROJ_LOADER.D - CanNotAccess - C:\WINDOWS\system32\extredir.exe
TROJ_LOADER.C - CanNotAccess - C:\WINDOWS\system32\ipcrv.exe
TSPY_DLOADER.D - CanNotAccess - C:\WINDOWS\system32\ixipuqy.exe
TROJ_DLOADER.HK - Not Cleanable - C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe
TROJ_BUDDY.F - Not Cleanable - C:\WINDOWS\wpvwdiqga.exe
Should I try to delete these using the delete button in HouseCall?
Thanks

Clcik on Start, then Run ... type services.msc into the box that opens up, and press 'OK'.

On the page that opens, scroll down to System Startup Service or SvcProc ... right click the entry, select 'Properties' and press 'Stop Service'. When it shows that it is stopped, next please set the 'Start-up Type' to 'Disabled'. Press 'OK' until you get back to Windows.

Next, open up HJT, but instead of scanning, click on the "None of the above, just start the program" button at the bottom of the choices. At the lower right, click on the 'Config" button, and then the Misc tools' button ... select 'Delete an NT Service" ... copy/paste the following into the box that opens, and press "OK":

SvcProc

Now, Click on Start, then Run ... type cmd and press "OK".

In the next box that opens, type cd\ and press "Enter". Now you'll see the C: prompt ... looks like this: C:\>

Type cd\windows and then Enter.

Next, type nail.exe /FullRemove (make sure there is a space between nail.exe and the /) ... then Enter.

Next.

Reboot in to Safe Mode.

Delete these files:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\extredir.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ipcrv.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ixipuqy.exe
C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe
C:\WINDOWS\wpvwdiqga.exe

Go back into Normal mode and run a HJT scan and Virus Scan. Give us the results.

Safe mode

Hi,
This is probably a silly question, but I cannot remember how to start the PC up in safe mode to delete those files
Thanks
Lisa

no problem.

Reboot the computer and repeatdly tap F8 until a menu appears. Choose Safe Mode with arrow keys. i will need you to perform the above instructions before I see another HJT scan.

If any files give you trouble, Download KillBox http://www.greyknight17.com/spy/KillBox.exe. Run KillBox and check the box that says 'End Explorer Shell While Killing File'. Next click on 'Delete on Reboot'. For each of the following files below, check the box that says 'Unregister .dll Before Deleting' if it's not grayed out. Copy and paste each of the file paths into KillBox (hitting the X button for each file - choose NO when it asks if you want to reboot): When you get to the last file, click Yes and the computer will restart.

Hi,
I have tried to delete those 5 remaining files through safe boot.
extredir.exe - deleted successfully
ipcrv.exe - deleted successfully
ixipuqy.exe - not found
wpvwdiqga.exe - not found
nail.exe - found but could not delete (file kept re-appearing after pressing delete)

I tried to remove the nail.exe file using the software suggested but this has not worked either. When the PC restarted, I got a message saying that Windows cannot find the file Nail.exe

Here is the latest log file if it helps:
Many Thanks
Lisa

My System

This one is tricky to remove. I will ask another Analyst (MicroBell) to come and assist you with this problem.

Hi Lisa

You have a real nasty infection here. It's filenames change every time you reboot..so unless you KILL the files...in their current state....it regenerates again on your next reboot. I need you to post the following logs...and run the fix without rebooting the PC after the last tool..

Download this virus checker and tool from eScan Mwav.exe (Use Link 3)

1. Save it to a folder.
2. Reboot into safe mode
3. Double click the Mwav.exe file.(This is a stand alone tool and NOT just a virus checker......so it won't install anything)
4.Select all local drives, scan all files, press SCAN and when it is completed, anything found will be displayed in the lower pane.
5. In the Virus Log Information Pane......
Left click and Highlight all the info in the Lower pane--- Use "CTRL C" on your Keyboard to copy all found in the lower pane and save it to a notepad file

*Note* If prompted that a Virus was found and you need to purchase the product to remove the malware, just close out the prompt and let it continue scanning.

We are not going to use this to remove anything..but to ID the bad guys.

Once you copy that to a notepad file...highlight the text and copy it here.

Now...Download and run the next tool....but DO NOT REBOOT after you run the tool and post it's log.

Download FindIt's.zip to your desktop: http://forums.net-integration.net/in...post&id=142443

1. Unzip/extract the files inside to a folder on your desktop.
2. Open the folder and run FindIt's.bat and wait for notepad to open a text file. It will take awhile so please be patient ...
3. Then post the results here please, along with the new HijackThis log and the Mwav log.

Hi,
Thanks for the suggestion but unfortunately that doesn't work either. For some reason I just don't seem to be able to go online while in safe mode.
Any other ideas? :-)
Thanks
Lisa

Hi jordan.

Download all the programs u need in Normal Mode while u can access the net. Place them in a folder in C:\ so u can find this folder in Safe Mode. Only run tools and fixes in Safe mode when instructed.

At the moment, MicroBell has instructed you to downlaod and run mwav.exe and Findit.bat, this can be done in Normal Mode. We only require u to go into Safe Mode when a deletion and fix is needed.

Hi Lisa..

I think you misunderstood my request. Download both tools while your in normal mode with internet access. Once you have downloaded both...then reboot into safe to the run the mwav.exe tool. Once it completes...Save that log. Then reboot back to normal mode and run the rkfiles tool. Once thats done...post both logs here.

The mwav.exe tool MUST be run from safe mode...but the other tool does not...so thats why we are running it last. Once you run the rkfiles tool...just don't reboot the PC. You'll be in normal mode with internet access so you can post the logs.

FYI....You will have no internet access in safe mode. You can only connect to a network in safe mode.
