Still buggy...can you help?

I have run adaware, spybot and still have some buggy problems. I know there are still some issues I can't identify. Here is my HJT log created with the analyzer:

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that 'Display the contents of system folders' is checked.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

Reboot into Safe Mode (hit F8 key until menu shows up). Make sure to close any open browsers.

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [hkyvacm] c:\windows\system\hkyvacm.exe
O4 - Startup: OCRAWARE.lnk = C:\WINDOWS\CVTAPLOG.EXE

O16 - DPF: {1C854D5E-66D9-11D3-81DD-00A0C9B62983} (TestX Class) - http://209.1.231.142/Plugin/3DGreetings/PlayerX.CAB
O16 - DPF: {52290B25-D07A-43B5-84D8-493116D50FA0} - http://webinstall.tscash.com/webinstall.cab
O16 - DPF: {90C9629E-CD32-11D3-BBFB-00105A1F0D68} (InstallShield International Setup Player) - http://www.installengine.com/engine/isetup.cab
O16 - DPF: {31DDC1FD-CEA3-4837-A6DC-87E67015ADC9} - http://akamai.downloadv3.com/binari...sysnet32_EN.cab
O16 - DPF: {BFC9677B-8006-4336-9D49-2C797AEFCB9E} - http://akamai.downloadv3.com/binari...ACCESS_1058.cab

Delete the following Files/Folders (delete folders if no filename is specified) according to their directory (if none, just do a search for them) and delete them if they exist:

c:\windows\system\hkyvacm.exe
C:\WINDOWS\CVTAPLOG.EXE

Reboot into Normal Mode and run new HijackThis scan. If there were some entries that didn't show up in Safe Mode, you may check and fix those that appear now in normal mode (if you do that, make sure to run a new scan again). Save the log file and run KRC HijackThis Analyzer in the same folder to get the result.txt log. Just post the contents of the result.txt file in the forum.

Log following next round of deletions

I am hoping that cleaning these out will end the enormous amount of spam this computer is getting (I'm talking about 150-200/day). I figured it must have a trojan/malware culprit sending out its e-mail address. Are some of the ones that have been deleted capable of doing that?

Whats worrying (and certainly contributing to you problem) is this section of the log:

You have no Virus Protection, Firewall etc.

First lets get you started with a free AV program. Go to www.grisoft.com and download AVG. Keep it up-to-date.

Meanwhile, run an Online Virus scan at www.trend.com/housecall.

HJT log is looking clean. Lets see what the Online Virus Scan brings. Let us know how you get on. We may have more work to do here.

virus/installation issues

I have a copy of Norton Internet Security 2005 which will not install, (despite trying Symantec's troubleshooting suggestions) so I am doing an online virus scan using Panda Activescan. My plan is to remove whatever it finds and then try installing Norton again. If it fails, I will install the free program. I did an online scan before posting my first log and did find viruses which, supposedly were eliminated. I will let you know how this works out shortly.

My System

I advise you that you don't install Norton Internet Security. That program has got to be one of the worst ones out there in my opinion. I just had a user switch over to AVG and ZoneAlarm and the user's system is running great now. Trust me when I say that NIS is not good.

last HJT log?

I have installed AVG. I have no viruses, but I am still getting tons of unsolicited e-mail. (200 today) I have Thunderbird installed now and set to filter it, but still #$%&*@@ grrrr. Please take a last look at my log to make sure something wasn't missed.
Question: once your e-mail address has been sent out like that are you doomed to keep getting it? Does it just keep getting passed on?

Yes, basically it will keep coming. There are some spam filtering programs that you can use if you are interested. There are free and paid ones. Unfortunately, we all get spam one time or another, that's why I created a dummy/junk email account for all sites that require a email and that I don't really trust.

Your log is clean.

To help prevent future spyware installations/infections, please read the Anti-Spyware Tutorial http://www.greyknight17.com/spyware.htm#prevent and use the tools provided.

Are there any problems now? If not, you should be set to go.
