Need Help, know nothing, computer Sssllloowww
HI, Glad I found this site. I am about to ditch my computer. It is so slow ( hoefully this is the thread to post on) I have scanned with McAffee as well as Spybot and adaware and still it is driving me nuts. When I try to save the drop down takes for ever ( as well as using the dropdown for site addresses in explorer) ti find teh drives. When I look in a folder for files I get the flashlight that just looks and looks forever. Loading programs takes an eternity.
Where do I start? ( and be gentle, its my first time getting info from a tech group) |

Hi welcome to TSF
First, create a folder for HijackThis in the root folder of your hard drive so it can make proper backups example C:/HJT/ C:/hijackthis/ next Click here to download Hijack This. 1.99.1 Save it to the folder you have just created Close all open windows and open HIJACK THIS. Click “Scan” . When the scan is finished (it only takes a second), the scan button will change to“Save Log”. Click on“Save Log” and save it to NotePad. Copy the entire log and paste it here. DO NOT FIX ANYTHING YET , most items that appear in the log are harmless or even needed. Wait for someone to analyze the scan and advise. Lobos |

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.
Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that 'Display the contents of system folders' is checked. Windows XP's search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that Search system folders, Search hidden files and folders, and Search subfolders are checked. For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep). Reboot into Safe Mode (hit F8 key until menu shows up). Make sure to close any open browsers. Go into HijackThis->Config->Misc. Tools->Open process manager. Select the following and click Kill process for each one if they are still listed (they shouldn't be - but double check it): C:\Program Files\AWS\WeatherBug\Weather.exe Uninstall the following via the Add/Remove Panel (Start->(Settings)->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs) if they exist: Market Browser's End User Agreement - We may use third party network advertisers such as DoubleClick to deliver ads to you on our behalf. We may also use third-party service providers to contact you on our behalf, or facilitate some aspects of our Web site services or fulfill your purchase requests. These network advertisers and service providers may be supplied with or have access to your personally identifiable information solely for the purpose of providing these services to us or on our behalf. Except as specifically set forth in this Privacy Policy, we will not share your personally identifiable information outside of LMT or MarketBrowser sponsors, unless you opt in to having your personally identifiable information shared with a company that is not affiliated with us. WeatherBug - it's adware. If you didn't install this yourself, uninstall it. If you did install it yourself, you may keep it and ignore any fixes/deletions listed below. WildTangent - This is an online gaming package that is installed by a number of third party applications and even OEMs, ISPs and AIM. The games aspect of this is really rather cool. The being installed without you asking for it isn't cool at all. They collect information about you and your usage. We recommend uninstalling it. Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any): O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {FA91B828-F937-4568-82C1-843627E63ED7} - (no file) O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [DDCM] "C:\Program Files\WildTangent\DDC\DDCManager\DDCMan.exe" -Background O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [DDCActiveMenu] "C:\Program Files\WildTangent\DDC\ActiveMenu\DDCActiveMenu.exe " -boot O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WildTangent CDA] RUNDLL32.exe "C:\Program Files\WildTangent\Apps\CDA\cdaEngine0400.dll",cdaEngineMain O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Weather] C:\Program Files\AWS\WeatherBug\Weather.exe 1 O4 - Startup: PowerReg Scheduler.exe O9 - Extra button: MktBrowser - {17A27031-71FC-11d4-815C-005004D0F1FA} - C:\Program Files\MarketBrowser\lmt\MarketBrowser_Launch.xpy O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: MarketBrowser - {17A27031-71FC-11d4-815C-005004D0F1FA} - C:\Program Files\MarketBrowser\lmt\MarketBrowser_Launch.xpy O9 - Extra button: Support - {5A84D374-B971-4C0F-9FD0-7334F2B6C04E} - http://www.comcastsupport.com (file missing) (HKCU) O9 - Extra button: Help - {69CFEB36-BADB-4D9F-B856-2B40C995114C} - http://www.comcast.net/memberservices/ (file missing) (HKCU) O9 - Extra button: WeatherBug - {AF6CABAB-61F9-4f12-A198-B7D41EF1CB52} - C:\Program Files\AWS\WeatherBug\Weather.exe (HKCU) O9 - Extra button: ComcastHSI - {D4358478-66F8-4DA2-A0C7-4B744FFCF393} - http://www.comcast.net (file missing) (HKCU) O14 - IERESET.INF: START_PAGE_URL=http://www.comcast.net O16 - DPF: {03F998B2-0E00-11D3-A498-00104B6EB52E} (MetaStreamCtl Class) - https://components.viewpoint.com/MT...terface_map.php O16 - DPF: {8E28B3A9-FE83-45D1-B657-D5426B81A121} (CustomerCtrl Class) - http://cs7b.instantservice.com/jars...erxsigned40.cab O16 - DPF: {9522B3FB-7A2B-4646-8AF6-36E7F593073C} (cpbrkpie Control) - http://a19.g.akamai.net/7/19/7125/4...22/cpbrkpie.cab O16 - DPF: {9DBAFCCF-592F-FFFF-FFFF-00608CEC297C} - http://download.weatherbug.com/mini...b?rand=20033620 Delete the following Files/Folders (delete folders if no filename is specified) according to their directory (if none, just do a search for them) and delete them if they exist: C:\Program Files\AWS\ - only if you uninstalled WeatherBug C:\Program Files\WildTangent\ C:\Program Files\MarketBrowser\ - Only if you uninstalled it Reboot into Normal Mode and run new HijackThis scan. If there were some entries that didn't show up in Safe Mode, you may check and fix those that appear now in normal mode (if you do that, make sure to run a new scan again). Save the log file and run KRC HijackThis Analyzer in the same folder to get the result.txt log. Just post the contents of the result.txt file in the forum.

Just one quick question. Do you know what this program is for?
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [BTCLiveUpdate] "C:\Program Files\LiveUpdate\LiveUpdate.exe" /autostart If it's ok to keep then: Your log is clean. If you disabled System Restore, make sure to enable it now. To help prevent future spyware installations/infections, please read the Anti-Spyware Tutorial http://www.greyknight17.com/spyware.htm#prevent and use the tools provided. Are there any problems now? If not, you should be set to go.
