Toshiba Laptop Problems
My 6 month old laptop seems to be going rapidly downhill. Upon booting, I frequently get bluescreen errors (usually irql less or equal or an mmspool error) and have to reboot 2 -3 times before it's OK. This has been happenng for about 3 weeks. Over the past week, I've also experienced much slower operation in everything I do. I'm just about ready to run the recovery disc, which will reformat my HD and force me to reload all programs and data. You are my last hope before I take this step! I've run SpyBot, AdAware, McAfee VS, eTrust Pest Patrol, CW Shredder - all to no avail.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!! Here is my HJT log: Logfile of HijackThis v1.97.7 Scan saved at 11:38:26 PM, on 4/14/2005 Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600) MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP2 (6.00.2900.2180) Running processes: C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\Ati2evxx.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\ACS.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\LEXBCES.EXE C:\WINDOWS\system32\LEXPPS.EXE C:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exe C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 3.0\PhotoshopElementsFileAgent.exe C:\Program Files\Toshiba\Power Management\CeEPwrSvc.exe C:\Program Files\TOSHIBA\ConfigFree\CFSvcs.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\DVDRAMSV.exe c:\PROGRA~1\mcafee.com\vso\mcvsrte.exe C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 3.0\PhotoshopElementsDeviceConnect.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe c:\TOSHIBA\Ivp\Swupdate\swupdtmr.exe c:\PROGRA~1\mcafee.com\vso\mcshield.exe C:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXE C:\WINDOWS\system32\dla\tfswctrl.exe C:\Program Files\ATI Technologies\ATI Control Panel\atiptaxx.exe C:\Program Files\ltmoh\Ltmoh.exe C:\WINDOWS\AGRSMMSG.exe C:\Program Files\Apoint2K\Apoint.exe C:\Program Files\EzButton\EzButton.EXE C:\Program Files\TOSHIBA\TouchPad\TPTray.exe C:\Program Files\TOSHIBA\Touch and Launch\PadExe.exe C:\Program Files\TOSHIBA\Power Management\CePMTray.exe C:\toshiba\ivp\ism\pinger.exe C:\PROGRA~1\mcafee.com\vso\mcvsshld.exe C:\PROGRA~1\mcafee.com\agent\mcagent.exe c:\progra~1\mcafee.com\vso\mcvsescn.exe C:\Program Files\Dell AIO Printer A920\dlbkbmgr.exe C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe C:\Program Files\TOSHIBA\E-KEY\CeEKey.exe C:\Program Files\Dell AIO Printer A920\dlbkbmon.exe C:\Program Files\Winamp\winampa.exe C:\Program Files\TOSHIBA\TOSCDSPD\toscdspd.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\ctfmon.exe C:\Program Files\Apoint2K\Apntex.exe C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\ONENOTEM.EXE C:\Program Files\Nikon\PictureProject\NkbMonitor.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\RAMASST.exe C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\wuauclt.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\taskmgr.exe C:\Program Files\Security\HijackThis.exe R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/cust...search/ie.html R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/cust.../www.yahoo.com R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.yahoo.com/ R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://www.toshiba.com R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/cust.../www.yahoo.com R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing O2 - BHO: (no name) - {06849E9F-C8D7-4D59-B87D-784B7D6BE0B3} - C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\ActiveX\AcroIEHelper.dll O2 - BHO: (no name) - {53707962-6F74-2D53-2644-206D7942484F} - C:\PROGRA~1\SPYBOT~1\SDHelper.dll O2 - BHO: (no name) - {5CA3D70E-1895-11CF-8E15-001234567890} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\dla\tfswshx.dll O2 - BHO: (no name) - {AA58ED58-01DD-4d91-8333-CF10577473F7} - c:\program files\google\googletoolbar1.dll O3 - Toolbar: McAfee VirusScan - {BA52B914-B692-46c4-B683-905236F6F655} - c:\progra~1\mcafee.com\vso\mcvsshl.dll O3 - Toolbar: Yahoo! Hi and welcome to TSF
Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below. Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that 'Display the contents of system folders' is checked. Windows XP's search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that Search system folders, Search hidden files and folders, and Search subfolders are checked. For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep). =============== Download, then unzip to "C:\HJT", the newest version of HiJackThis; version 1.99.1. after following the steps in the solution (if provided in this post). This version has features that might be more helpful in 'cleaning' up your system. =============== Reboot into Safe Mode". Run HiJackThis and click "Scan", then check(tick) the following, if present: R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/cus.../search/ie.html R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/cus...//www.yahoo.com R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/cus...//www.yahoo.com R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ydsvkp] C:\WINDOWS\ydsvkp.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [jktudcv] C:\WINDOWS\jktudcv.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [qxuhmf] C:\WINDOWS\qxuhmf.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [yvmjsd] C:\WINDOWS\yvmjsd.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [gzotyfqj] C:\WINDOWS\gzotyfqj.exe Now, with all windows closed except HiJackThis, click "Fix checked". =============== Locate and delete the following item(s), if present. Make sure your able to view system and hidden files/ folders: files... C:\WINDOWS\ydsvkp.exe C:\WINDOWS\jktudcv.exe C:\WINDOWS\qxuhmf.exe C:\WINDOWS\yvmjsd.exe C:\WINDOWS\gzotyfqj.exe =============== Post back a new log, and let me know how everything goes. - Lobos |

Looks much better!
Thank you! I followed your instructions, and they have made a difference. The first four items you listed for deletion weren't present in the safe mode HJT, but still remain in the regular mode - should I delete them from there?
No blue screens on startup !! And computer seems to be moving faster - not as fast as original though. Not very critical, but we'll remove those entries now:
Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any): R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/cus.../search/ie.html R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/cus...//www.yahoo.com R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/cus...//www.yahoo.com R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing Your log is clean. If you disabled System Restore, make sure to enable it now. To help prevent future spyware installations/infections, please read the Anti-Spyware Tutorial http://www.greyknight17.com/spyware.htm#prevent and use the tools provided. Are there any problems now? If not, you should be set to go.
