OS=XP IE 6.0.2900.2180
When loading IE the load is interuppted and redirected by two urls that pass by very quickly. Both begin with res://c:\windows\system32\. The first goes too quickly and I cannot tell the rest of the string. The second which results in the "Page cannot be displayed" Text in the window is res://C:\WINDOWS\System32\shdoclc.dll/dnserror.htm Prior to following your procedures, I ran Spyware Doctor, Spybot S&D, Spysweeper, CWS and Spysubtract, Norton AV in Safe mode and normal startup. I then followed your procedures (ad-aware Se etc.) and am including the analyzed HJT data. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I have been at this for four days. Note: of couse IE works fine in safemode. Thank you for your consideration and time. Here is the anaylzed data. ==================================================================== Log was analyzed using KRC HijackThis Analyzer - Updated on 4/1/05 Get updates at http://www.greyknight17.com/download.htm#programs ***Security Programs Detected*** C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccProxy.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccSetMgr.exe C:\Program Files\Norton Internet Security\ISSVC.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\SNDSrvc.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\SPBBC\SPBBCSvc.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccEvtMgr.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccApp.exe C:\Program Files\Webroot\Spy Sweeper\SpySweeper.exe C:\Program Files\InterMute\SpySubtract\SpySub.exe C:\Program Files\Norton Internet Security\Norton AntiVirus\navapsvc.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\CCPD-LC\symlcsvc.exe O2 - BHO: Norton Internet Security - {9ECB9560-04F9-4bbc-943D-298DDF1699E1} - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\AdBlocking\NISShExt.dll O2 - BHO: NAV Helper - {BDF3E430-B101-42AD-A544-FADC6B084872} - C:\Program Files\Norton Internet Security\Norton AntiVirus\NavShExt.dll O3 - Toolbar: Norton Internet Security - {0B53EAC3-8D69-4b9e-9B19-A37C9A5676A7} - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\AdBlocking\NISShExt.dll O3 - Toolbar: Norton AntiVirus - {42CDD1BF-3FFB-4238-8AD1-7859DF00B1D6} - C:\Program Files\Norton Internet Security\Norton AntiVirus\NavShExt.dll O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ccApp] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccApp.exe" O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Symantec NetDriver Monitor] C:\PROGRA~1\SYMNET~1\SNDMon.exe O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [SpySweeper] "C:\Program Files\Webroot\Spy Sweeper\SpySweeper.exe" /0 O4 - Global Startup: SpySubtract.lnk = C:\Program Files\InterMute\SpySubtract\SpySub.exe O20 - Winlogon Notify: PCANotify - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\PCANotify.dll O23 - Service: pcAnywhere Host Service (awhost32) - Symantec Corporation - C:\Program Files\Symantec\pcAnywhere\awhost32.exe O23 - Service: Symantec Event Manager (ccEvtMgr) - Symantec Corporation - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccEvtMgr.exe O23 - Service: Symantec Network Proxy (ccProxy) - Symantec Corporation - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccProxy.exe O23 - Service: Symantec Password Validation (ccPwdSvc) - Symantec Corporation - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccPwdSvc.exe O23 - Service: Symantec Settings Manager (ccSetMgr) - Symantec Corporation - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccSetMgr.exe O23 - Service: ISSvc (ISSVC) - Symantec Corporation - C:\Program Files\Norton Internet Security\ISSVC.exe O23 - Service: Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect Service (navapsvc) - Symantec Corporation - C:\Program Files\Norton Internet Security\Norton AntiVirus\navapsvc.exe O23 - Service: SAVScan - Symantec Corporation - C:\Program Files\Norton Internet Security\Norton AntiVirus\SAVScan.exe O23 - Service: ScriptBlocking Service (SBService) - Symantec Corporation - C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\SYMANT~1\SCRIPT~1\SBServ.exe O23 - Service: Symantec Network Drivers Service (SNDSrvc) - Symantec Corporation - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\SNDSrvc.exe O23 - Service: Symantec SPBBCSvc (SPBBCSvc) - Symantec Corporation - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\SPBBC\SPBBCSvc.exe O23 - Service: Symantec Core LC - Symantec Corporation - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\CCPD-LC\symlcsvc.exe O23 - Service: SymWMI Service (SymWSC) - Symantec Corporation - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\Security Center\SymWSC.exe ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1 Scan saved at 4:48:57 PM, on 4/14/2005 Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600) MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP2 (6.00.2900.2180) Running processes: C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_02\bin\jusched.exe C:\Highjack\HijackThis.exe R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://www.altavista.com/ R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.att.net R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://www.att.net N3 - Netscape 7: user_pref("browser.startup.homepage", "http://home.netscape.com/bookmark/7_1/home.html"); Welcome to TSF.
Your log looks clean. Let's try registering Internet Explorer's DLL files. Go to Start->Run and type in command and click OK. Then type in each of the following, hitting the Enter key after each line: regsvr32 Shdocvw.dll regsvr32 Shell32.dll regsvr32 Oleaut32.dll regsvr32 Actxprxy.dll regsvr32 Mshtml.dll regsvr32 Urlmon.dll regsvr32 shdoclc.dll

I tried your instructions twice and it still does not work. When I put in the CD for the SFC, it took like 45 minutes for it to progress to the end. During the process I got the Put in the CD pop up with retry option like it was not recognizing the CD. I hit retry each time and eventually the blue progress line moved to the end. Then the window disappeared with out any other activity or summary. I then downloaded and extracted the DLL to the sys32 folder and it said "Error the process cannot access the file because it is being used by antoher process. Cannot create c:/windows?system 32 ....
So I tried to delete it so that I could extract the new one and received access denied. So I renamed the old DLL, exited windows explorer, went back to windows explorer and the shdoclc was recreated. The renamed one was also present. Then I tried regsvr32 and got the same entry point not found message. Tried in safe mode and got same response. It possibly is something that loads in normal mode but not in safe mode. Like a startup , run or run once item. But I can't see it. Any other thoughts?? Thank you.... |

I followed a hunch...I turn off Norton Internet security (no security at all) and tried IE browser. It Worked. I turned on MS Internet Security with IE browser. It Worked. With the webpage still up, I turned off MS security and back on NIS. I typed in a url and guess what? It did not work. Same Problem. I ran a Symantec Security analysis with Norton as my browser and MS Security and it checked every fine except Antivirus (becuase it needs the IE browser). I ran it with the IE browser and all checked out fine. So either something is up with Norton code with using IE or IE is forcing me to use MS security or none. Netscape browser works fine with each. I will send a report to Norton and MS. Thank you for your help.
