Make sure your logged in as the Admin.....Using regedit.....Navigate to the following key

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\
System

Click..file...export...and save that key. Rename that file to a .TXT file and post the contents in your next post. I'm willing to bet the TABS have been disabled..but I want to see what others may be as well.

Look for this entry under that key... "NoDispScrSavPage" and let me know what the value is.

Sorry for the long delay. I thought this was dead and hadn't checked it in a while.

There is no NoDispScrSavPage, only NoDispAppearancePage and NoDispBackgroundPage. Both of those values are 0.

I did change some values back to 0 based on advice in the XP forum and all tabs are back in display properties. The problem I continue to have is no windows XP option for "windows and buttons" in the display appearance, onl windows classic. I'd really like to get the XP look back.

Just a hunch, but is XP now in classic mode or the nice colorful XP mode? If classic, right click on Start button and go to Properties. Then make sure that the first option (Start Menu button - not Classic Start Menu) is enabled. Now see if you can change it.

No, it was set to start menu not classsic start menu. I can't figure this one out. I don't know how the XP option in the appearance options could disappear.

OK, one more try. I found this, but it's not the option in the Appearance tab. Take a look at it anyway and see if it's of any use (it's the start menu thing that I was referring to above):

If nothing, then I suggest asking this question in the Windows XP forum. They will help you out there.

Any other problems related to spyware/viruses now?

Thanks. I fixed the problem by doing a repair install of XP based on advice in the XP form. The XP option came back after doing so. Might as well consider this resolved. I do appreciate the time you all spent on this.
