New HJT log, thanks for your help guys!

Everything has suddenly started being really slow, even the mouse moving across the screen with no programs open seems slower than normal.
Anything to do with any of this stuff?

Cheers for the help guys, you're stars!!

I'm seeing an entry from nod32. Is this still installed on your system? You also have AVG showing. More than one AV program can cause conflict.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show all files' is checked under the 'Hidden Files' section. Also make sure there is no checkmark beside 'Hide file extensions for known file types'.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

The Temp folders should be cleaned out periodically as installation programs and hijack programs leave a lot of junk there. Download CleanUp! (Alternate Link if main link don't work) and install it. You will use this later.

Reboot into Safe Mode (hit F8 key until menu shows up). Make sure to close any open browsers. Go into HijackThis->Config->Misc. Tools->Open process manager. Select the following and click Kill process for each one if they are still listed (they shouldn't be - but double check it):

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\WINACTIVE.EXE

Uninstall the following via the Add/Remove Panel (Start->(Settings)->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs) if they exist:

LookNSearch

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

O3 - Toolbar: Wanadoo - {8B68564D-53FD-4293-B80C-993A9F3988EE} - C:\PROGRA~1\WANADOO\WSBAR\WSBAR.DLL (file missing)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [logon.exe] C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\logon.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WinMsgServices] WINACTIVE.EXE
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [GSISETUP] C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\GsiInst.exe INSTALL C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\.\V205Res 23
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [logon.exe] C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\logon.exe
O16 - DPF: {10000000-1000-0000-1000-000000000000} - file://C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\Iesearch.exe
O16 - DPF: {E7DBFB6C-113A-47CF-B278-F5C6AF4DE1BD} - http://download.abacast.com/downloa...abasetup152.cab

Delete the following Files/Folders (delete folders if no filename is specified) according to their directory (if none, just do a search for them) and delete them if they exist:

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\WINACTIVE.EXE
C:\PROGRA~1\WANADOO\WSBAR
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\logon.exe
C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\Iesearch.exe

Run CleanUp! and click on CleanUp! button. When it asks you if you want to logoff, click on Yes.

Reboot into Normal Mode and run new HijackThis scan. If there were some entries that didn't show up in Safe Mode, you may check and fix those that appear now in normal mode (if you do that, make sure to run a new scan again). Save the log file and run KRC HijackThis Analyzer in the same folder to get the result.txt log. Just post the contents of the result.txt file in the forum.

Go to Start->Settings->Control Panel and double-click on the System icon. On the Performance tab click File System. Click the Troubleshooting tab, and then check Disable System Restore. Click OK. Click Yes when you are prompted to restart Windows. When we have confirmed that your log file is clean, you may enable System Restore again by following the same steps as above except you should uncheck Disable System Restore.

If you have a fast internet connection (broadband), run an online virus scan at TrendMicro http://uk.trendmicro-europe.com/ente...all_launch.php. Just follow the instructions on the site to run the online scan. If any viruses/trojans are detected, try to delete or clean them in that site. Otherwise, make sure your antivirus program has the latest definitions and run a full system scan.

My System

Thanks for the help tetonbob

Nod claims to be uninstalled, I tried uninstalling it from the Add/Remove programs but it says that its already been uninstalled. I noticed a program called ms32 was on there though, any idea what that is?

Here's the KRC result file:

A couple of things here...I missed the fact that your HJT is out of date. Sorry. Please download the newest version at http://www.greyknight17.com/spy/HijackThis.exe and run it.

Before you give us a new log here, if we gave you instructions for a fix, please do the fixes first and then post the new log with this updated version.

1. If it gives you an intro screen, just choose 'Do a system scan and save a logfile'.
2. If you don't get the intro screen, just hit Scan and then click on Save log.

Since you no longer use nod32, let's remove it completely.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Reboot into Safe Mode (hit F8 key until menu shows up). Make sure to close any open browsers. Go into HijackThis->Config->Misc. Tools->Uninstall Manager. Select the following and click Delete this Entry(if present):

nod32
Eset

Click on Yes when it asks if your are sure.

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [nod32kui] "C:\Program Files\Eset\nod32kui.exe" /WAITSERVICE
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [NOD32kernel] "C:\Program Files\Eset\nod32krn.exe"

Delete the following Files/Folders (delete folders if no filename is specified) according to their directory (if none, just do a search for them) and delete them if they exist:

C:\Program Files\Eset

Reboot into Normal Mode and run new HijackThis scan. If there were some entries that didn't show up in Safe Mode, you may check and fix those that appear now in normal mode (if you do that, make sure to run a new scan again). Save the log file and run KRC HijackThis Analyzer in the same folder to get the result.txt log. Just post the contents of the result.txt file in the forum.

I can't find enough information about a program entry of ms32. Do a search for ms32.exe This may be related to MSBLAST worm, but it is only supposed to attack Win2000 and XP machines. If you can find more information in it's Program Files entry, post it here. If you find that file, let me know.

Also, let's use a program to scan for any trojans that may exist. Download TDS-3. Learn how to use it here. Make sure to update it after you installed it. You can get the manual updates here. When you launch the program, it will scan your memory for running processes. This will take less than 30 seconds. Next go to System Testing on the menu and choose Full System Scan. After that's finished, post the log file by selecting everything on the top pane (select from bottom to top). If any alarms are found, it will be listed in the bottom window. Please copy and paste that here also if it applies.

There's no sign of a file ms32.exe, but its uninstall path says "C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\WINACTIVE.EXE" -uninstall
The file that you told me to delete in the last message, should i try uninstalling it?

Thanks for all the help!

Hi David-

I'm a little uncertain what you are telling me here:

Quote:
There's no sign of a file ms32.exe, but its uninstall path says "C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\WINACTIVE.EXE" -uninstall
The file that you told me to delete in the last message, should i try uninstalling it?
OK, there's no ms32.exe. That's good. TDS-3 shows no alarms. That's good also.

Quote:
it's uninstall path says: "C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\WINACTIVE.EXE" -uninstall
What "it" are you referring to, please? The ms32 entry?

Quote:

Which file, please? Any file I've listed for deletion you should have tried to delete.

Is your system running any better?

My System

Sorry, what I meant was that the uninstall command for the program ms32 was "C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\WINACTIVE.EXE" -uninstall.
Winactive.exe was one of the things that I deleted as per your instructions in the first message. So should I attempt to uninstall ms32?

The system is running fine now, seems to be back to normal.

Hi David -

Thanks for clarifying. Let's use HJT to remove that program listing.

Reboot into Safe Mode (hit F8 key until menu shows up). Make sure to close any open browsers. Go into HijackThis->Config->Misc. Tools->Uninstall Manager. Select the following and click Delete this Entry(if present):

ms32

Click on Yes when it asks if you are sure.

Then, reboot into normal mode, run HJT again, and post a fresh log, just to be sure.
