Strange things are a foot...
Can somebody please have a look at my Hijack This log. Computer has been running fine until recently, now I'm having strange pop up windows while I'm online. Windows are appearing on the taskbar with 'Aurora' on them but I've tried opening the windows and theres nothing in them. I can close the windows only for them to reappear a few minutes later.

Hello and welcome to TSF

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad in order to assist you when carrying out the following instructions.

You are using an outdated version of Hijack This. Please download and install the latest version by going to this Site

Download Spybot 1.3 from this site Spybot 1.3. Install the program, update the definitions file and run a scan. Fix all the entries, which are indicated in RED.


Please download Adaware SE and install it if you don't have it already. Make sure it's the newest version and check for any updates before running it. Go to this Site to get the plug-in for fixing VX2 variants. Also make sure to Customize the settings in Adaware for better scan results. Run the scan and fix everything that it finds.


To turn off System Restore Click Start > Right Click My Computer > Properties. Click the System Restore tab and Check "Turn off System Restore" or "Turn off System Restore on all drives". Click Apply. When turning off System Restore, the existing restore points will be deleted. Click Yes to do this then Click OK.

Go to My Computer >Tools >Folder Options >View tab and make sure that Show hidden files and folders is enabled. Also make sure that the System Files and Folders are showing / visible. Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files option.

Reboot your system in Safe Mode (By repeatedly tapping the F8 key until the menu appears).

Go into Hijack This->Config->Misc. Tools->Open process manager. Select the following and click “Kill process” for each one (You must kill them one at a time).

Open Hijack This and click on Scan. Check the following entries (make sure you do not miss any)

F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe>>Remove if you did not add this .

Please remember to close all other windows, including browsers then click Fix checked.

Delete the following Files indicated in RED and Folders indicated in BLUE if they still exist.

Reboot your System in normal mode.

If you have a fast internet connection (Broadband), run an online scan at Trend Micro or RAV Antivirus.
Please select the “autoclean” option when using Trend Micro.

Please post a fresh Hijack This log so that we can check if your system is clean.

Hi pbuc

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad in order to assist you when carrying out the following instructions.

Make sure System Restore is still off. Click Start > Right Click My Computer > Properties. Click the System Restore tab and Check "Turn off System Restore" or "Turn off System Restore on all drives". Click Apply. When turning off System Restore, the existing restore points will be deleted. Click Yes to do this then Click OK.

Click on Start, then Run ... type services.msc into the box that opens up, and press 'OK'.

On the page that opens, scroll down to System Startup Service or SvcProc ... right click the entry, select 'Properties' and press 'Stop Service'. When it shows that it is stopped, set the 'Start-up Type' to 'Disabled'. Press 'OK' until you get back to Windows.


Open Hijack This and click on Scan. Check the following entry

O23 - Service: System Startup Service (SvcProc) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\svcproc.exe (file missing)


Please remember to close all other windows, including browsers then click Fix checked.

Delete the following Files indicated in RED and Folders indicated in BLUE if they still exist.

c:\windows\system32\neahsn.exe
C:\WINDOWS\svcproc.exe

Reboot

Run a HJT scan and verify
O23 - Service: System Startup Service (SvcProc) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\svcproc.exe (file missing)
has been removed.

How are things running now.

Lets run one more fresh Hijack This log so that we can check if your system is clean.

Your system looks clean now. You may now turn System Restore back on now.

Remember to keep up with updates thru Automatic Updates or you can manually download from Microsoft

This is a good time to set up protection against further attacks. Read How Did I Get Infected In The First Place?. You need an antivirus that is continually updated, a good firewall, a spyware blocker such as Spyware Blaster, and a real time spyware program such as Spyware Guard, to prevent spyware intrusions. IE-Spyad is another excellent program that places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list, which will help prevent attempts to infect your system. All of the above have good free versions available. However, be very wary with any security software that is advertised in popups or in other ways. They are not only usually of no use, but often have malware in them.
