SpyWare Problems
I have had several problems this year with spyware on my computer. I have had my system cleaned twice and that has not seemed to work for me. Everytime before my computer gets really bad and starts to freeze up, I start getting directed to about:blank when I am on-line. My computer began to redirect me yesterday. I was told about your web-site from a friend and decided to give it a try. I followed the directions and have down-loaded Ad-aware SE to my computer. I could not get the online virus scan to run and I was unsure of how to unzip the program Hijack This Analyzer. I hope that you can help me with my problems. Thanks.

Greetings, and welcome to TSF!
Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below. Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that 'Display the contents of system folders' is checked. Windows XP's search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that Search system folders, Search hidden files and folders, and Search subfolders are checked. For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep). Reboot into Safe Mode (hit F8 key until menu shows up). Make sure to close any open browsers. Go to www.trendmicro.com, and then: 1. Click "Free Online Scan". 2. Click "Scan now, it's free". It'll take a few minutes to download (especially with a dialup connection), so be patient. When it's down: 1. Select all available drives. 2. Check(tick) "Auto Clean". 3. Click "Scan". When it completes, post back the full filename of any files that cannot be cleaned or deleted. =============== Download, unzip to your desktop CWShredder and run it, then: 1. Click "Check For Update" (If an update isn't available, skip to step #4.) 2. Click "Click here to Download the upate". 3. When the new version has been downloaded, click "Save". 4. Click "Fix ->" =============== Next, Open a command prompt by: 1. Clicking "Start", then "Run...". 2. Enter "cmd" (without the quotes). 3. Enter "services.msc" (without the quotes). - Now, locate and 'stop' the following services, if present: Hardware Clock Driver (hwclock) owner ... (C:\WINDOWS\System32\hwclock.exe) Look carefully, since the name of the service (above) can be anywhere in the entry; also be careful not to 'stop' any required system services. =============== Run HiJackThis then: 1. Click "Config..." 2. Click "Misc Tools" 3. Click "Open Process manager" - Next, while holding down the CTRL key, locate (if present) and click on (highlight) each of the following: C:\WINDOWS\System32\hwclock.exe Now double-check and make sure that only those item(s) above are highlighted, then click "Kill process". Now, click "Refresh", check again, and repeat this step if any remain. =============== Now, let's open a command prompt and unregister the dll(s) we're going to remove, by entering the following: regsvr32 /u dflp.dll It's ok, if these aren't found or 'error' out. If you want, just copy and paste the individual lines to the command prompt to save on the typing. =============== Run HiJackThis and click "Scan", then check(tick) the following, if present: R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = res://C:\DOCUME~1\TaKara\LOCALS~1\Temp\se.dll/spage.html R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = about:blank R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = res://C:\DOCUME~1\TaKara\LOCALS~1\Temp\se.dll/spage.html R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = about:blank R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = about:blank R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = about:blank R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,HomeOldSP = about:blank R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,HomeOldSP = about:blank O2 - BHO: (no name) - {2743DD71-2006-4773-81F2-105DC9753F2C} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\dflp.dll O2 - BHO: (no name) - {549B5CA7-4A86-11D7-A4DF-000874180BB3} - (no file) O2 - BHO: (no name) - {FDD3B846-8D59-4ffb-8758-209B6AD74ACC} - (no file) O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Cryptographic Service] C:\WINDOWS\System32\bcmipj.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [sp] rundll32 C:\DOCUME~1\TaKara\LOCALS~1\Temp\se.dll,DllInstall O4 - Global Startup: hp psc 1000 series.lnk = ? Make sure your able to view system and hidden files/ folders: files... C:\WINDOWS\System32\hwclock.exe C:\DOCUME~1\TaKara\LOCALS~1\Temp\se.dll C:\WINDOWS\System32\dflp.dll C:\WINDOWS\System32\bcmipj.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\ujcltm32.dll Search for... hpoddt01.exe ...using "Start | Search...". - Note that some of these file(s) may or may not be present. [/b]Reboot into Normal Mode and run new HijackThis scan. If there were some entries that didn't show up in Safe Mode, you may check and fix those that appear now in normal mode (if you do that, make sure to run a new scan again). Save the log file and run KRC HijackThis Analyzer in the same folder to get the result.txt log. Just post the contents of the result.txt file in the forum. Turn off system restore by right clicking on My Computer and go to Properties->System Restore and check the box for Turn off System Restore. Click Apply and then OK. Restart your computer. After we are finished with your log file and verified that it's clean, you may turn it back on and create a new restore point. |

Should the "All files and folders" be under the folder opinions in my computer? I don't see it there but I could be looking right at it. Also to reboot in safe mode all I have to do is hit the F8 key until a menu comes up on my screen?

I have ran into another problem. When I go into trendmicro and then into scan now, it's free, I get a gray box that says somthing along the lines of "The security settings on your computer prevent Active X from running, this may prevent the correct display of the infomation of this page." I clicked on okay and the page came up except the box in the middle of the page where my filenames are suppose to appear. It had an X in the top left corner. Anywhy I went ahead and let it sit on that page for about 30 minutes just in case but nothing ever happened. I am assuming that I need to disenable Active X but I am not sure and I have no idea on how to do that if it needs to be done. Please help.

Since you have dial-up, let's do this instead:
Let's use a program to scan for any trojans that may exist. Download TDS-3. Learn how to use it here. Make sure to update it after you installed it. You can get the manual updates here. When you launch the program, it will scan your memory for running processes. This will take less than 30 seconds. Next go to System Testing on the menu and choose Full System Scan. After that's finished, post the log file by selecting everything on the top pane (select from bottom to top). If any alarms are found, it will be listed in the bottom window. Please copy and paste that here also if it applies.

I got the TDS-3 downloaded to my computer but I can not get to run. It will run about half-way and then a box pops up that says TDS-3 has encountered an internal error and needs to close. I have tried to run it five times and I have had no luck with. Is there anything else that I can do because my computer is getting really awful. I am getting more and more pop-ups from Microsoft Messenger service and my computer is getting slower and slower. Please Help Soon.

Go to Start->Run and type in services.msc and hit OK. Now scroll down to Messenger Service and double click on it. Hit the Stop button and under Startup type, choose Disable. That should stop the messenger popups. This service is really useless for most users anyway, so disabling it should be no problems unless you are on a network and the admins need to send messages to everyone.
Does TDS-3 freeze while running in Safe Mode also? Let's try running TrendMicro, but instead of using the previous (ActiveX) version, let's use the Java version and see if it works better: If you have a fast internet connection (broadband), run an online virus scan at TrendMicro http://uk.trendmicro-europe.com/ente...all_launch.php. Just follow the instructions on the site to run the online scan. If any viruses/trojans are detected, try to delete or clean them in that site. Otherwise, make sure your antivirus program has the latest definitions and run a full system scan.

Okay, I started my computer in safe mode and was able to run TDS-3 without any problems. It found seven alarms on my computer. However, I can't figure out how to copy and paste it. It tried highlighting the top window and right clicking but nothing happened. I tried the same thing with the bottom window but I can't even get the all seven alarms to highlight at once. So looked under all the button on the tool bar but still could not find a copy button. Could you please let me know how to copy in TDS-3? Thank you so much for all your help.

Do a search for scandump.txt and see if that file has the alarms in them. Post it here.

Click on Start > Search > Files and Folders and search for scandump.txt
When it is found, double click on it to open it. Then go to Edit >Select All. Then Edit > Copy. Immediately come to this thread and make a reply. Right click and Paste, or simply press Ctrl+V together. Submit.

Okay, I have tried to search for scandump.txt but I keeping getting told that no files or folders where found. I am assuming that this goes along with the TDS-3. I had to run TDS-3 in safe mode so would I have to search for scandump.txt in safe mode also? Thanks for your help.

OK, run the TDS-3 scan again. Could you select the bottom window one by one and copy them? If you can, copy them here. If not, look for those that say Positive identification with virus, adware or trojan at the end. Just right click and delete those files directly from that TDS-3 program.
Restart and give us a new log for HijackThis.
