confused, need help!
Hi,
I need some help. My girlfriend's computer started acting wonky a week or so ago and i can't figure out why. Ultimately i was advised to come here for help. so here's what happened. Suddenly at one point the "new music" folder on her desktop, where she downloads new files and bittorrent albums went all corrupted. any folder that existed in it suddenly had gibberish names with weird characters, and there were many matching files. none of these could be deleted. i tried running virus scans and whatnot to little result. runs of ad-aware would freeze up, but i ultimately got around that and got rid of a very large number of offenses. Then, at some point while i was doing all of this the names of the folders all changed to "bkdr_*" with any variety of words following the underscore by broken up by periods, like this: "bkdr_dea.th". at this point virus scans would get to the folder and get stuck in a cyclical thing. i've run spybot s&d, avg antivirus and ad-aware. the weird thing that happened recently is that all of the files and folders dissapeared. i don't know when, but they are gone. i am still worried about what is going on though, and just want to be sure that everything is okay. again, avg has been giving me nothing, and spybot removed 2 small infractions. so here's my hijack this log, hopefully you'll tell me i'm clear, or be able to offer up any kind of idea as to what may have happened to her computer. any help will be greatly appreciated. thanks, jon. Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.
Reboot into Safe Mode (hit F8 key until menu shows up). Make sure to close any open browsers. Uninstall the following via the Add/Remove Panel (Start->(Settings)->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs) if they exist: webHancer Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any): R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = about:blank R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = about:blank R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = about:blank R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = about:blank R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [webHancer Survey Companion] "C:\Program Files\webHancer\Programs\whSurvey.exe" Delete the following Files/Folders (delete folders if no filename is specified) according to their directory (if none, just do a search for them) and delete them if they exist: C:\Program Files\webHancer\ Reboot into Normal Mode and run new HijackThis scan. If there were some entries that didn't show up in Safe Mode, you may check and fix those that appear now in normal mode (if you do that, make sure to run a new scan again). Save the log file and run KRC HijackThis Analyzer in the same folder to get the result.txt log. Just post the contents of the result.txt file in the forum.

Your log is clean.
To help prevent future spyware installations/infections, please read the Anti-Spyware Tutorial http://www.greyknight17.com/spyware.htm#prevent and use the tools provided. Are there any problems now? If not, you should be set to go.
