HijackThis Log to be evaluated.
I followed the procedure "What to do before you post a log..." regarding installing and running Ad-aware, I removed all the items it reported. I also ran McAfee virus scanner on my entire hard drive and it reported nothing. I then ran HijackThis and the attached log is a result of doing a scan. I ran McAfee because that is what I have purchased and installed (the full suite including the firewall protection).
My intent here is to make sure my laptop is clean. I know running Ad-aware alone removed some advertising junk as a minimum. This laptop is used and I just acquired it, and I am trying to make sure it is in a good state. So please take a look at the log and let me know there are any issues with it. I will also take any other advice you have to offer. ----------------- HijackThis Log ----------------- Logfile of HijackThis v1.98.2 Scan saved at 9:56:03 AM, on 3/18/2005 Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600) MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP2 (6.00.2900.2180) Running processes: C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\LEXBCES.EXE C:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\LEXPPS.EXE C:\WINDOWS\System32\basfipm.exe C:\Program Files\ISS\BlackICE\blackd.exe C:\Program Files\MDTVPN\Client\cvpnd.exe c:\PROGRA~1\mcafee.com\vso\mcvsrte.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\VS7Debug\mdm.exe C:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXE C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\lptask.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\hpnra.exe C:\Program Files\MUSICMATCH\MUSICMATCH Jukebox\mm_tray.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\BacsTray.exe C:\Program Files\Support.com\bin\tgcmd.exe C:\PROGRA~1\mcafee.com\vso\mcvsshld.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\rundll32.exe C:\PROGRA~1\mcafee.com\agent\mcagent.exe C:\Program Files\Logitech\MouseWare\system\em_exec.exe c:\progra~1\mcafee.com\vso\mcvsescn.exe C:\PROGRA~1\McAfee.com\PERSON~1\MPFSERVICE.exe C:\PROGRA~1\McAfee\SPAMKI~1\MSKSrvr.exe C:\PROGRA~1\McAfee.com\PERSON~1\MpfTray.exe C:\PROGRA~1\mcafee.com\mps\mscifapp.exe C:\PROGRA~1\McAfee\SPAMKI~1\MskAgent.exe C:\Program Files\Dell AIO Printer A920\dlbkbmgr.exe C:\Program Files\MUSICMATCH\MUSICMATCH Jukebox\mmtask.exe C:\Program Files\Dell AIO Printer A920\dlbkbmon.exe C:\PROGRA~1\McAfee.com\PERSON~1\MpfAgent.exe C:\Program Files\WinZip\WZQKPICK.EXE C:\WINDOWS\system32\nvsvc32.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe c:\PROGRA~1\mcafee.com\vso\mcshield.exe C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe C:\HijackThis\HijackThis.exe R1 - Welcome to TSF.
Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below. Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that 'Display the contents of system folders' is checked. Windows XP's search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that Search system folders, Search hidden files and folders, and Search subfolders are checked. For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep). Turn off system restore by right clicking on My Computer and go to Properties->System Restore and check the box for Turn off System Restore. Click Apply and then OK. Restart your computer. After we are finished with your log file and verified that it's clean, you may turn it back on and create a new restore point. Reboot into Safe Mode (hit F8 key until menu shows up). Next fix...
Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.
You computer has software installed on by that was designed by Support.com. This program collects data on the programs that you use and websites you browse. However, it is unclear if anything is being done with the data. This software is designed as a support resource for either "Comcast Support Software" or "Sony Vaio Support". It will be YOUR choice as to whether or not you remove this software. If you want to remove these, please follow the directions below. Otherwise, your log is clean. If you disabled System Restore, make sure to enable it now (ONLY if you are NOT going to remove the Support.com software). For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep). Reboot into Safe Mode (hit F8 key until menu shows up). Make sure to close any open browsers. Go into HijackThis->Config->Misc. Tools->Open process manager. Select the following and click Kill process for each one if they are still listed (they shouldn't be - but double check it): C:\Program Files\Support.com\bin\tgcmd.exe Uninstall the following via the Add/Remove Panel (Start->(Settings)->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs) if they exist: Comcast Support Software or Sony Vaio Support (whichever appears) Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any): O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ComcastSUPPORT] C:\Program Files\Support.com\bin\tgkill.exe /cleaneahtioga /start O15 - Trusted Zone: *.musicmatch.com Delete the following Files/Folders (delete folders if no filename is specified) according to their directory (if none, just do a search for them) and delete them if they exist: C:\Program Files\Support.com\bin\tgcmd.exe C:\Program Files\Support.com\bin\tgkill.exe Also delete ALL those EXE and DLL files (in their corresponding directory) listed above in RED. Reboot into Normal Mode and run new HijackThis scan. If there were some entries that didn't show up in Safe Mode, you may check and fix those that appear now in normal mode (if you do that, make sure to run a new scan again). Save the log file and post the contents of the LOG file in the forum. |

Thank you so much for your help. Once again, I did everything you suggested, including removing that comcast support stuff. I don't want anything at all like this running on my laptop, I want my laptop very clean and very secure. All is continuing to go well, here is the new log. I will continue checking in to see whats next.
Some additional questions: 1) What about those items near the end of the log containing "(file missing)", should something be done with those?. 2) What about the "O16 - DPF: " items, should they be removed? I don't know what they are except of course for the mcafee one. ==================================================================== Log was analyzed using KRC HijackThis Analyzer - Updated on 3/2/05 Get updates at http://www.greyknight17.com/download.htm#programs ***Security Programs Detected*** C:\Program Files\ISS\BlackICE\blackd.exe c:\PROGRA~1\mcafee.com\vso\mcvsrte.exe C:\PROGRA~1\McAfee.com\PERSON~1\MPFSERVICE.exe C:\PROGRA~1\McAfee\SPAMKI~1\MSKSrvr.exe c:\PROGRA~1\mcafee.com\vso\mcshield.exe C:\PROGRA~1\McAfee.com\PERSON~1\MpfAgent.exe c:\program files\mcafee.com\agent\mcagent.exe C:\PROGRA~1\mcafee.com\vso\mcvsshld.exe c:\progra~1\mcafee.com\vso\mcvsescn.exe C:\PROGRA~1\McAfee.com\PERSON~1\MpfTray.exe C:\PROGRA~1\mcafee.com\mps\mscifapp.exe C:\PROGRA~1\McAfee\SPAMKI~1\MskAgent.exe O2 - BHO: McBrwHelper Class - {227B8AA8-DAF2-4892-BD1D-73F568BCB24E} - c:\PROGRA~1\mcafee.com\mps\mcbrhlpr.dll O2 - BHO: McAfee PopupKiller - {3EC8255F-E043-4cae-8B3B-B191550C2A22} - c:\program files\mcafee.com\mps\popupkiller.dll O3 - Toolbar: McAfee VirusScan - {BA52B914-B692-46c4-B683-905236F6F655} - c:\progra~1\mcafee.com\vso\mcvsshl.dll O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [VSOCheckTask] "c:\PROGRA~1\mcafee.com\vso\mcmnhdlr.exe" /checktask O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [VirusScan Online] "c:\PROGRA~1\mcafee.com\vso\mcvsshld.exe" O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MCAgentExe] c:\PROGRA~1\mcafee.com\agent\mcagent.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MCUpdateExe] C:\PROGRA~1\mcafee.com\agent\mcupdate.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MPFExe] C:\PROGRA~1\McAfee.com\PERSON~1\MpfTray.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MPSExe] c:\PROGRA~1\mcafee.com\mps\mscifapp.exe /embedding O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MSKAGENTEXE] C:\PROGRA~1\McAfee\SPAMKI~1\MskAgent.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MSKDetectorExe] C:\PROGRA~1\McAfee\SPAMKI~1\MskDetct.exe /startup ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Logfile of HijackThis v1.98.2 Scan saved at 6:10:26 PM, on 3/20/2005 Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600) MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP2 (6.00.2900.2180) Running processes: C:\Program Files\MDTVPN\Client\cvpnd.exe C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\lptask.exe C:\Program Files\Dell AIO Printer A920\dlbkbmon.exe C:\HijackThis\HijackThis.exe R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://smbusiness.dellnet.com/ R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://www.comcast.net R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.comcast.net/ R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Window Title = Microsoft Internet Explorer provided by Comcast O2 - BHO: Yahoo! Last fix... Hopefully...
Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.
Uninstall the following via the Add/Remove Panel (Start->(Settings)->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs) if they exist: SirSearch Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any): O8 - Extra context menu item: SirSearch - file://C:\Program Files\PWRSTRAF\Cache\SelectedContextSearch.htm O9 - Extra button: ComcastHSI - {669B269B-0D4E-41FB-A3D8-FD67CA94F646} - http://www.comcast.net/ (file missing) O9 - Extra button: Support - {8828075D-D097-4055-AA02-2DBFA9D85E8A} - http://www.comcastsupport.com/ (file missing) O9 - Extra button: Help - {97809617-3937-4F84-B335-9BB05EF1A8D4} - http://online.comcast.net/help/ (file missing) O9 - Extra button: Support - {018E536F-271C-465C-9CD9-8564164168AD} - http://www.comcastsupport.com (file missing) (HKCU) O9 - Extra button: Help - {A9450D66-4FE4-4034-A730-67A007145154} - http://www.comcast.net/memberservices/ (file missing) (HKCU) O9 - Extra button: ComcastHSI - {EE70698A-3ECC-4A48-A61C-AC5B66FD3CA2} - http://www.comcast.net (file missing) (HKCU) O14 - IERESET.INF: START_PAGE_URL=http://www.comcast.net Delete the following Files/Folders (delete folders if no filename is specified) according to their directory (if none, just do a search for them) and delete them if they exist: C:\Program Files\PWRSTRAF\ Reboot into Normal Mode and run new HijackThis scan. If there were some entries that didn't show up in Safe Mode, you may check and fix those that appear now in normal mode (if you do that, make sure to run a new scan again). Save the log file and post the contents of the LOG file in the forum for, hopefully, ONE LAST TIME.... ![]() Quote:

Once again, all went well. Here is the new log, I'll continue checking in to see whats next. And thank you again.
Question: What is "C:\Program Files\ISS\BlackICE\blackd.exe"? I currently have the McAfee firewall configured to have this "blackd" blocked from all access. The McAfee app has no information as to what it is. Does it have something to do with Comcast? What does it do? Should I remove it? Keep it blocked? It seems to want to access the internet a lot. As soon as I delete the McAfee blocked-rule for it, McAfee is immediately asking me if I want to allow/disallow access for it. ==================================================================== Log was analyzed using KRC HijackThis Analyzer - Updated on 3/2/05 Get updates at http://www.greyknight17.com/download.htm#programs ***Security Programs Detected*** C:\Program Files\ISS\BlackICE\blackd.exe c:\PROGRA~1\mcafee.com\vso\mcvsrte.exe C:\PROGRA~1\McAfee.com\PERSON~1\MPFSERVICE.exe C:\PROGRA~1\McAfee\SPAMKI~1\MSKSrvr.exe C:\PROGRA~1\mcafee.com\vso\mcvsshld.exe C:\PROGRA~1\mcafee.com\agent\mcagent.exe c:\progra~1\mcafee.com\vso\mcvsescn.exe C:\PROGRA~1\McAfee.com\PERSON~1\MpfTray.exe C:\PROGRA~1\mcafee.com\mps\mscifapp.exe C:\PROGRA~1\McAfee\SPAMKI~1\MskAgent.exe C:\PROGRA~1\McAfee.com\PERSON~1\MpfAgent.exe c:\PROGRA~1\mcafee.com\vso\mcshield.exe O2 - BHO: McBrwHelper Class - {227B8AA8-DAF2-4892-BD1D-73F568BCB24E} - c:\PROGRA~1\mcafee.com\mps\mcbrhlpr.dll O2 - BHO: McAfee PopupKiller - {3EC8255F-E043-4cae-8B3B-B191550C2A22} - c:\program files\mcafee.com\mps\popupkiller.dll O3 - Toolbar: McAfee VirusScan - {BA52B914-B692-46c4-B683-905236F6F655} - c:\progra~1\mcafee.com\vso\mcvsshl.dll O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [VSOCheckTask] "c:\PROGRA~1\mcafee.com\vso\mcmnhdlr.exe" /checktask O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [VirusScan Online] "c:\PROGRA~1\mcafee.com\vso\mcvsshld.exe" O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MCAgentExe] c:\PROGRA~1\mcafee.com\agent\mcagent.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MCUpdateExe] C:\PROGRA~1\mcafee.com\agent\mcupdate.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MPFExe] C:\PROGRA~1\McAfee.com\PERSON~1\MpfTray.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MPSExe] c:\PROGRA~1\mcafee.com\mps\mscifapp.exe /embedding O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MSKAGENTEXE] C:\PROGRA~1\McAfee\SPAMKI~1\MskAgent.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MSKDetectorExe] C:\PROGRA~1\McAfee\SPAMKI~1\MskDetct.exe /startup ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Logfile of HijackThis v1.98.2 Scan saved at 7:14:44 AM, on 3/21/2005 Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600) MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP2 (6.00.2900.2180) Running processes: C:\Program Files\MDTVPN\Client\cvpnd.exe C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\lptask.exe C:\Program Files\Dell AIO Printer A920\dlbkbmon.exe C:\HijackThis\HijackThis.exe R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://smbusiness.dellnet.com/ R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://www.comcast.net R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.comcast.net/ R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Window Title = Microsoft Internet Explorer provided by Comcast O2 - BHO: Yahoo! http://www.digitalriver.com/dr/v2/ec...P=0&CACHE_ID=0 Other than that, your log is clean. If you disabled System Restore, make sure to enable it now. To help prevent future spyware installations/infections, please read the Anti-Spyware Tutorial (http://www.greyknight17.com/spyware.htm#prevent) and use the tools provided. Are there any problems now? If not, you should be set to go. |
