New one, after upgrading to Win2K.
I'm not sure what new background processes Win2K requires, so here's the log:

Sorry Ark, don't mean to sound quite so cold. It is the standard reply so other security analysts can see that someone is already working on a request for help so there is no duplication.
OK, how's this: Hi Ark, I'm currently reviewing your log. I am working under the supervision of expert analysts as I am only an apprentice at this time. They will review my response and make sure that what I tell you is, in fact, correct. I'll get back to you as soon as possible Is that better?

Hello again,
I most certainly was done, quite some time ago, but as I mentioned, my reply must be reviewed and given the 'go ahead' first. These gentlemen volunteer their time and have jobs, families, etc. too. The length of time you and I have had to wait is unusual...(If you're concerned about conscientiousness, just take a look at the time I'm posting this to you! ) In regard to your HJT log: Your log is clean! You should be set to go.

Hithere,
Not a problem, I can help you there You are correct, Quicktime does not need to constantly be running in the background. In fact, it is a totally unreasonable resource hog – it has been measured to use as much as 1.5Mb of memory at times. Quicktime--Start QuickTime through "Start \ Programs", choose the "Edit \ Preferences" menu option, select "QuickTime Preferences" from the right-hand side menu, uncheck the box next to QuickTime System Tray icon. In version 6, however, this is done differently : double-click on the QuickTime icon in the Control Panel to bring up the QuickTime Settings panel, choose Browser Plug-in in the drop-down at the top, and then uncheck QuickTime System Tray icon. There are a few others that can be disabled from startup, yet still accessible from desktop when needed. See this link for a full lists of processes, what they are and if they're needed. To disable an item from StartUp: Click Start>Run and type in msconfig or msconfig.exe. It will bring up all the programs/processes that load when Windows loads. Look for the processes and 'Uncheck' them. If you find that you do want process running at start up, just go back in there and 'Check' it again. |
