Help with C:\PROGRA~1\WILDTA~1\APPS\CDA\CDAENG~1.DLL

I know this has been addressed before (I found your site doing a websearch on it) and did as you have previously advised and ran a Hijack log. I also analyzed it and will post the results below. We have Weather Bug installed intentionally as my husband is a weather nut. Is it dangerous enough that we should remove it? Thank you so much for any help you can provide.

Blessings, Jen Silverman

Here's the log:

My System

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that 'Display the contents of system folders' is checked. Windows XP's search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that Search system folders, Search hidden files and folders, and Search subfolders are checked.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

Download AboutBuster and unzip it to a folder on your the Desktop. Do not run it yet.

Download WinsockFix and unzip it. Then double-click on it to run it.

Right click on this link http://www.greyknight17.com/spy/DelO15Domains.inf and choose Save As. Save it to your desktop. Right click on that file and choose Install. You may delete it afterwards.

Reboot into Safe Mode (hit F8 key until menu shows up). Make sure to close any open browsers. Go into HijackThis->Config->Misc. Tools->Open process manager. Select the following and click Kill process for each one if they are still listed (they shouldn't be - but double check it):

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\RSHUFDH.EXE
C:\PROGRAM FILES\AWS\WEATHERBUG\WEATHER.EXE

Uninstall the following via the Add/Remove Panel (Start->(Settings)->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs) if they exist:

QuickSearch
EZTracks
Acceleration Software
NewDotNet or New.Net
freescan or Spyware Begone
InstaFinder

WeatherBug - it's adware. If you didn't install this yourself, uninstall it. If you did install it yourself, you may keep it and ignore any fixes/deletions listed below.

WildTangent - This is an online gaming package that is installed by a number of third party applications and even OEMs, ISPs and AIM. The games aspect of this is really rather cool. The being installed without you asking for it isn't cool at all. They collect information about you and your usage. We recommend uninstalling it.

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

Run AboutBuster and follow the prompts to scan (choose Yes/OK for all). It will ask you if you want a second scan, choose Yes. Save the log file and post it here.

Delete the following Files/Folders (delete folders if no filename is specified) according to their directory (if none, just do a search for them) and delete them if they exist:

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\RSHUFDH.EXE
C:\PROGRAM FILES\AWS\ - only if you uninstalled WeatherBug
C:\WINDOWS\WINBZ32.DLL
C:\WINDOWS\DOWNLO~1\INSTAFIN.DLL
C:\Program Files\NewDotNet\
C:\Program Files\EZTRACKS\
C:\WINDOWS\CERBMOD.DLL
C:\WINDOWS\DLMAX.DLL
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTB.DLL
C:\WINDOWS\SASETUP.DLL
C:\Program Files\QuickSearch\

C:\PROGRA~1\WILDTA~1\
C:\WINDOWS\FARMMEXT.exe
C:\WINDOWS\FARMMEXT.ini
C:\WINDOWS\wupdt.exe
D:\FREESCAN\

Reboot into Normal Mode and run new HijackThis scan. If there were some entries that didn't show up in Safe Mode, you may check and fix those that appear now in normal mode (if you do that, make sure to run a new scan again). Save the log file and run KRC HijackThis Analyzer in the same folder to get the result.txt log. Just post the contents of the result.txt file in the forum.

Wow! Thank you very very much! I could not run AboutBuster. It kept telling me that the file was corrupt and couldn't run. I did everything else though and I'll copy my new log in below my sig again. Thank you again so much for your help. So far things seem to be running much better.

Blessings, Jen

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Reboot into Safe Mode (hit F8 key until menu shows up). Make sure to close any open browsers. Uninstall the following via the Add/Remove Panel (Start->(Settings)->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs) if they exist:

Spyware Begone or freescan

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Spyware Begone] D:\FREESCAN\FREESCAN.EXE -FastScan

Delete the following Files/Folders (delete folders if no filename is specified) according to their directory (if none, just do a search for them) and delete them if they exist:

D:\FREESCAN\
c:\windows\sasetup.dll - try deleting this again

Reboot into Normal Mode and run new HijackThis scan. If there were some entries that didn't show up in Safe Mode, you may check and fix those that appear now in normal mode (if you do that, make sure to run a new scan again). Save the log file and run KRC HijackThis Analyzer in the same folder to get the result.txt log. Just post the contents of the result.txt file in the forum.

I'm back

Sorry it took so long for me to get this done and come back. Unfortunately, when I went back to do what you said, there was more stuff back in there. Hopefully I got it all. Oh, and I still wasn't able to delete that sasetup.dll. Here's the new result text. Thanks so much again for your dedication and help.

Blessings, Jen

One more thing

I didn't realize until I posted the result text that the "ebates moemoney" thing on line 09 was still there (I had already tried to delete it and thought I had). I think I have successfully removed it now. It's no longer showing up on a scan or on a file find. I do, however, still have two things showing up on the add/remove program screen that I can't uninstall or find on a file search. They are Search 2020 and 2020Search. If you have any ideas on what these are, I appreciate it so much. Oh, and how do we stop this stuff from coming in? Do you recommend a fire wall, not visiting certain sites (my husband plays a lot of online games), etc.? Any suggestions you may have would be great.

Thanks again so much, Jen

No problem, we'll get rid of that now. We usually give a prevention speech at the end when the user is clean. I will provide that now (See the last paragraph). That should help prevent this from happening again (not 100%, but definitely much better than having no protection). Yes, get a firewall. It's a must these day. We recommend ZoneAlarm which is free:

You don't seem to have a firewall program installed. Using a firewall will allow you to give/deny access for applications that want to go online. Please download a free one at ZoneAlarm.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Download KillBox (http://www.greyknight17.com/spy/KillBox.exe). Don't run it yet.

Reboot into Safe Mode (hit F8 key until menu shows up). Make sure to close any open browsers. Uninstall the following via the Add/Remove Panel (Start->(Settings)->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs) if they exist:

ebates

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

O2 - BHO: PynixObj Class - {00000000-DD60-0064-6EC2-6E0100000000} - C:\WINDOWS\PYNIX.DLL
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Win Server Updt] C:\WINDOWS\wupdt.exe
O8 - Extra context menu item: Ebates - file://C:\PROGRAM FILES\EBATES_MOEMONEYMAKER\Sy350\Tp350\scri350a.ht m
O9 - Extra button: Ebates - {6685509E-B47B-4f47-8E16-9A5F3A62F683} - file://C:\PROGRAM FILES\EBATES_MOEMONEYMAKER\Sy350\Tp350\scri350a.ht m (HKCU)

Run KillBox and check the box that says 'End Explorer Shell While Killing File'. Next click on 'Delete on Reboot'. For each of the following files below, check the box that says 'Unregister .dll Before Deleting' if it's not grayed out. Copy and paste each of the following into KillBox (hitting the X button for each file - choose NO when it asks if you want to reboot):

C:\WINDOWS\PYNIX.DLL
C:\WINDOWS\wupdt.exe
C:\PROGRAM FILES\EBATES_MOEMONEYMAKER\
c:\windows\sasetup.dll

Reboot into Normal Mode and run new HijackThis scan. If there were some entries that didn't show up in Safe Mode, you may check and fix those that appear now in normal mode (if you do that, make sure to run a new scan again). Save the log file and run KRC HijackThis Analyzer in the same folder to get the result.txt log. Just post the contents of the result.txt file in the forum.

To help prevent future spyware installations/infections, please read the Anti-Spyware Tutorial and use the tools/programs provided.

OK! Got the firewall - thank you again very much - and got rid of those other pesky little issues. Here's the new result text.

Reboot into Safe Mode (hit F8 key until menu shows up). Make sure to close any open browsers. Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://websearch.drsnsrch.com/sidesearch.cgi?id=
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://websearch.drsnsrch.com/sidesearch.cgi?id=

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch = http://websearch.drsnsrch.com/sidesearch.cgi?id=
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = websearch.drsnsrch.com/q.cgi?q=
O2 - BHO: Band Class - {01F44A8A-8C97-4325-A378-76E68DC4AB2E} - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTB.DLL
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {38D4D5D0-423E-4220-B6F9-30918C2AE4A4} - C:\WINDOWS\SASETUP.DLL (file missing)
O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {2CDE1A7D-A478-4291-BF31-E1B4C16F92EB} - (no file)

Run KillBox and check the box that says 'End Explorer Shell While Killing File'. Next click on 'Delete on Reboot'. For each of the following files below, check the box that says 'Unregister .dll Before Deleting' if it's not grayed out. Copy and paste each of the following into KillBox (hitting the X button for each file - choose NO when it asks if you want to reboot):

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTB.DLL
C:\WINDOWS\SASETUP.DLL

Reboot into Normal Mode and run new HijackThis scan. If there were some entries that didn't show up in Safe Mode, you may check and fix those that appear now in normal mode (if you do that, make sure to run a new scan again). Save the log file and run KRC HijackThis Analyzer in the same folder to get the result.txt log. Just post the contents of the result.txt file in the forum.

My System

It's looking good.

Your log is clean.

To help prevent future spyware installations/infections, please read the Anti-Spyware Tutorial http://www.greyknight17.com/spyware.htm#prevent and use the tools provided.

Are there any problems now? If not, you should be set to go.
