Hi and Welcome
It may help you if you print out or copy this page for easy reference.. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order its listed and that you have HJT v1.99.1.If you don't understand please ask before proceeding with the fixes.

Please Keep your browser and all open programs closed (except firewalls and antivirus) when you are carrying out the fixes.

Download any of the required programs before attempting to start any of the fixes.

Turn off System Restore instructions (WinXP)
Rightclick My Computer | Properties | System Restore | check “Turn off System Restore”, <Apply>, <OK>. Reboot. When we have confirmed that your log file is clean, you may renable System Restore and create a new restore point.

SHOW HIDDEN FILES AND FOLDERS.
To show hidden files instructions (WinXP)
Doubleclick My Computer | Tools | Folder Options | View tab
Select Show Hidden Files and Folders
Uncheck Hide extensions for known file types
Uncheck Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)
Select Apply to All Folders | Yes | Apply | OK
------------------------------------------------------------------

Download and run Adaware,SpyBot & CWShredder (check for updates) for a preliminary cleanup first. Some files below may not be present after running the above programs.Full instructions below.

How to setup Ad-Aware

Download Ad-Aware
Save aawsepersonal.exe into its own directory, NOT in a TEMPorary folder or on the Desktop. I recommend c:/program files/Adaware/
Doubleclick aawsepersonal.exe. Make sure to direct the program to install in the c:/program files/adaware/ directory, NOT the default directory.
Open AdAware from Start | Programs | Lavasoft | AdAware.
Select <Check for updates now>, <Proceed>
After installation, run the program and click the start button. Then click the next button. This lets ad-aware scan your computer.
After ad-aware is done running, hit the next button. Then right click the area with the listed spy ware objects.Choose the "Select all objects" option.
At this point all the boxes next to the items should be checked. Then hit the next button.
It will ask if you want to delete the selected objects. Hit the Okay button.
Now most of the spyware should have been deleted from your hard drive.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

How to setup Spybot Search & Destroy

Download SpyBot
Save spybotsd13.exe into its own directory, NOT in a TEMPorary folder or on the Desktop.
I recommend c:/program files/spybot/
Doubleclick spybotsd13.exe. Make sure to direct the program to install in the c:/program files/spybot/ directory, NOT the default directory.
Open Spybot from Start | Programs | Spybot | Spybot S&D
Select <Search for Updates>. Let it install all updates. This is very important!
Select <Immunize>
Select <Check for Problems>
Check all entries that are in RED. Only RED, NOTHING ELSE. For your records, write/print out each item that you have fixed. Date it.
Select <Fix Selected Problems>
Close Spybot//

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Files highlighted in BLACK will need to be removed from your hard drive.

------------------------------------------------------------------

Please start by putting HJT in SAFE MODE. During reboot, tap the F8 key. Select Safe Mode and then run "Hijack This"
------------------------------------------------------------------

Go into HijackThis->Config->Misc. Tools->Open process manager. Select the following and click Kill process for each one if they are still listed.

c:\windows\system32\luupcjl.exe
C:\WINDOWS\farmmext.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\setver32c2.exe

------------------------------------------------------------------

Have "Hijack This" fix all the following items in the list below by placing a check in the appropriate boxes.Confirm that you have only the listed ones checked, then press <Fix checked> and Close HJT.

c:\windows\system32\luupcjl.exe
C:\WINDOWS\farmmext.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\setver32c2.exe

-------------------------------------------------------------------
Check that you have carried out all the above steps/fixes and then reboot into Normal Mode and download Cleanup This will clean out your tempory files.

Please update your Windows and IE Browser security to SP1a or SP2.This will help prevent malware. You really need to get up to date with your security by getting at least SP1a.You are just wide open to malware that is designed to attack 'raw' XP systems which exploits all available security 'holes' .Untill this is done you will continue to get infected.

http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com[b]

When finished please post a new log......

Luupcjl.exe is not there (so it must have been deleted)
farmmext.exe is not there - deleted too

setver32c2.exe is not there but there is something called

setver.exe and that is in the system32

does everything seem to be ok and can I put system restore back on and also hide the folders and extesions now.

many thanks

I see just on the above that there is C:\WINDOWS\System32\setver32c2.exe
but when I go to the system32 folder I only see setver.exe

If everything is OK, can i use my previous settings (turn system restore back on, Hide folders etc).

Many Thanks

hi,
Thanks for all the help.

I'm just wondering - is there anyway I can remove Windows SA its not causing me a problem but when i run Spyware doctor it detects it as spyware and when i done a search for it on the internet, they said it was part of Blazefind which is spyware !.

When I deleted it before, I restarted and I could not log into my computer (it would keep logging me out before I got to the desktop screen). So i got some info and reinstalled it through the startup by typing certain commands in (cant remember what they were) but it put it back onto my computer and now its still on there.

has this been mentioned before ?

any info please?

many thanks

OS: Windows 98 & Windows XP Home/Pro

My System

See if you can find WindowsSA in the Add/Remove Panel. Try uninstalling there.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that 'Display the contents of system folders' is checked. Windows XP's search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that Search system folders, Search hidden files and folders, and Search subfolders are checked.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

Reboot into Safe Mode (hit F8 key until menu shows up). Make sure to close any open browsers.

Go to Start->Run and type in services.msc and hit OK. Then look for Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Manager (RpcMgr) and double click on it. Click on the Stop button and under Startup type, choose Disabled.

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = C:\WINDOWS\secure.html
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {2528F5B3-3DC7-4EF7-A7E3-95A151EF78F9} - (no file)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [KernelFaultCheck] %systemroot%\system32\dumprep 0 -k
O16 - DPF: {640B39C1-D713-464F-92C3-75BD972B95EE} - http://download.sidestep.com/get/k42033/sb028.cab
O16 - DPF: {FFFF0003-0001-101A-A3C9-08002B23E0CC} - http://direct.data-line.us/gbn283.exe
O23 - Service: Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Manager (RpcMgr) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\System32\setver32.exe
O23 - Service: Web Security (websec) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\System32\setver32c2.exe

Delete the following Files/Folders (delete folders if no filename is specified) according to their directory (if none, just do a search for them) and delete them if they exist:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\setver32c2.exe

Reboot into Normal Mode and run new HijackThis scan. If there were some entries that didn't show up in Safe Mode, you may check and fix those that appear now in normal mode (if you do that, make sure to run a new scan again). Save the log file and run KRC HijackThis Analyzer in the same folder to get the result.txt log. Just post the contents of the result.txt file in the forum.

Check and fix this also:
O16 - DPF: {640B39C1-D713-464F-92C3-75BD972B95EE} - http://download.sidestep.com/get/k42033/sb028.cab

Did you manage to delete that file?

For that error message you are getting, go to C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\ and delete all the files in there.

The Temp folders should be cleaned out periodically as installation programs and hijack programs leave a lot of junk there. Download CleanUp! (Alternate Link if main link don't work) and install it. Run CleanUp! and click on CleanUp! button. When it asks you if you want to logoff, click on Yes.

Restart. Any problems now?

You have a worm running in the PC. You will need to update both XP and IE6 with the latest service packs SP1/SP2. This worm exploits the DCOM issue in XP that hasn't been patched.

Removal instructions here...http://www.trendmicro.com/vinfo/viru...%2EEP&VSect=Sn

My System

You can either order the SP2 CD from microsoft or get it from the windowsupdate site at http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com.

Order it at:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/d...s/default.mspx

Just pop it in and it should run. Then just install.

The TrendMicro scan shouldn't take that long. Update your antivirus program and run that instead.

Your log is clean. If you disabled System Restore, make sure to enable it now.

To help prevent future spyware installations/infections, please read the Anti-Spyware Tutorial http://www.greyknight17.com/spyware.htm#prevent and use the tools provided.

Are there any problems now? If not, you should be set to go.
