Action Cancelled res://C:\WINDOWS\System32\shdoclc.dll/dnserror.htm

hey,

I resolved a problem thanks to you a week or so ago, but the problem has returned in a different form

Last time my homepage had been hijacked to res://shdocpe.dll/blank.htm. My homepage isnt hijacked anymore, I solved that thanks to greyknight11 using hijackthis but when I go on some websites, they just dont work

I get, "The page cannot be displayed" or "action cancelled"

when i right click on these pages and click properties, under address (URL) it shows: res://C:\WINDOWS\System32\shdoclc.dll/dnserror.htm

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

dont know if this will highlight a potential problem, but heres a hijackthis log

Make sure to update Windows and Internet Explorer at http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com.

Is your ISP Wanadoo, or RIPE? Or does RIPE supply Wanadoo?

Could you tell us about any security software you might have running such as a Firewall? There may be settings configured in the Firewall that may be blocking your internet access.

This could be a question for your ISP.

firstly, thanks a lot for the reply

my ISP is Wanadoo and I have McAfee virus protection, which has a firewall running

Updating windows would mean installing Windows XP Service Pack 2 which I have cold feet about installing as ive heard that many people have had problems with it. But Might installing it fix the problem?

Thing is, when I try to download some syware removing tools, the 'page cannot be displayed message comes up' so I cant. Then when I go to properties it has res://C:\WINDOWS\System32\shdoclc.dll/dnserror.htm under URL address. It doesnt happen on all websites, but quite a few. I already have Spybot S&D installed, and they dont fix the problem

Any other suggestions?

My System

Let's try registering Internet Explorer's DLL files. Go to Start->Run and type in command and click OK. Then type in each of the following, hitting the Enter key after each line:

regsvr32 Shdocvw.dll
regsvr32 Shell32.dll
regsvr32 Oleaut32.dll
regsvr32 Actxprxy.dll
regsvr32 Mshtml.dll
regsvr32 Urlmon.dll

hey,

thanks for the reply again

i can now magically visit everything on the web again so my problem is solved. I think it was something on my McAfee firewall that was stopping me viewing certain pages, I disabled it, rebooted and everythings cool

thanks for your help/advice
