Action Cancelled res://C:\WINDOWS\System32\shdoclc.dll/dnserror.htm
hey,
I resolved a problem thanks to you a week or so ago, but the problem has returned in a different form Last time my homepage had been hijacked to res://shdocpe.dll/blank.htm. My homepage isnt hijacked anymore, I solved that thanks to greyknight11 using hijackthis but when I go on some websites, they just dont work I get, "The page cannot be displayed" or "action cancelled" when i right click on these pages and click properties, under address (URL) it shows: res://C:\WINDOWS\System32\shdoclc.dll/dnserror.htm Any help would be greatly appreciated Thanks dont know if this will highlight a potential problem, but heres a hijackthis log Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1 Scan saved at 10:16:48 PM, on 3/11/2005 Platform: Windows XP (WinNT 5.01.2600) MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP1 (6.00.2600.0000) Running processes: C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exe C:\Program Files\McAfee\McAfee Privacy Service\GUARDDOG.EXE C:\WINDOWS\System32\CTsvcCDA.EXE C:\Program Files\Common Files\EPSON\EBAPI\SAgent2.exe c:\PROGRA~1\mcafee.com\vso\mcvsrte.exe C:\PROGRA~1\McAfee\SPAMKI~1\MSKSrvr.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe c:\PROGRA~1\mcafee.com\vso\mcshield.exe C:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXE C:\Program Files\McAfee\McAfee Privacy Service\GUARDDOG.EXE c:\program files\mcafee.com\agent\mcagent.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Works Shared\WkUFind.exe C:\Program Files\Thomson\SpeedTouch USB\Dragdiag.exe C:\PROGRA~1\McAfee\SPAMKI~1\MskAgent.exe C:\Program Files\McAfee\McAfee Shared Components\Guardian\CMGrdian.exe C:\PROGRA~1\mcafee.com\vso\mcvsshld.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe c:\progra~1\mcafee.com\vso\mcvsescn.exe C:\Program Files\PHILIPS\HDDDMM\DMM\bin\AutoLaunchHDD70.exe C:\Program Files\MUSICMATCH\MUSICMATCH Jukebox\mm_tray.exe C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\PHILIP~1\USBCON~1.EXE C:\Program Files\Creative\SBLive\AudioHQ\AHQTB.EXE C:\Program Files\MUSICMATCH\MUSICMATCH Jukebox\mmtask.exe C:\Program Files\SpeedTouch\Dr SpeedTouch\drst.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\devldr32.exe C:\Program Files\MSN Messenger\msnmsgr.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\ctfmon.exe C:\Program Files\EPSON\EPSON CardMonitor\EPSON CardMonitor1.0.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Works Shared\wkcalrem.exe c:\progra~1\mcafee.com\vso\mcvsftsn.exe C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\wuauclt.exe C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE C:\PROGRA~1\McAfee.com\PERSON~1\MpfTray.exe C:\PROGRA~1\McAfee.com\PERSON~1\MpfAgent.exe C:\PROGRA~1\McAfee.com\PERSON~1\MPFSERVICE.exe C:\HJT\HJT.exe R0 - Make sure to update Windows and Internet Explorer at http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com.
Is your ISP Wanadoo, or RIPE? Or does RIPE supply Wanadoo? Could you tell us about any security software you might have running such as a Firewall? There may be settings configured in the Firewall that may be blocking your internet access. This could be a question for your ISP.

firstly, thanks a lot for the reply
my ISP is Wanadoo and I have McAfee virus protection, which has a firewall running Updating windows would mean installing Windows XP Service Pack 2 which I have cold feet about installing as ive heard that many people have had problems with it. But Might installing it fix the problem? Thing is, when I try to download some syware removing tools, the 'page cannot be displayed message comes up' so I cant. Then when I go to properties it has res://C:\WINDOWS\System32\shdoclc.dll/dnserror.htm under URL address. It doesnt happen on all websites, but quite a few. I already have Spybot S&D installed, and they dont fix the problem Any other suggestions? firstly, thanks a lot for the reply my ISP is Wanadoo and I have McAfee virus protection, which has a firewall running Updating windows would mean installing Windows XP Service Pack 2 which I have cold feet about installing as ive heard that many people have had problems with it. Let's try registering Internet Explorer's DLL files. Go to Start->Run and type in command and click OK. Then type in each of the following, hitting the Enter key after each line:
regsvr32 Shdocvw.dll regsvr32 Shell32.dll regsvr32 Oleaut32.dll regsvr32 Actxprxy.dll regsvr32 Mshtml.dll regsvr32 Urlmon.dll
