Hey! i went to my dad's last week and took a look at his pc.. it was not working. they have been running with out anti virus for along time and have dowloaded alot from the internet the computer crash's and get's browser hijacked it runs very slow he runs on xp and i have overed to help him clean up the drive i am a newbey and i know alittle about viruses is it safe to add the infected hard drive to my computer and clean it up useing my anti virus (nortan360) will this work? he cannot download any thing off the internet because he cant get on the websites, we dont really want to spend the money buying anti virus for the drive (its a cheap computer), what do you think would be the best way to solve this problem? i dont think it is unfixable it runs and i havent seen any problems with windows(xp). is there a way to use my better computer running on windows xp to help it ? or do i have to work with his slow computer to get it working. Thank you, :)

Re: Harddrive full of Virus/Trojan/Spyware
Hello and welcome to TSF.
It would be best if you can download and transfer the tools needed for the analysis of malware to the infected computer using a USB stick. Some very good antivirus applications are available free of charge. Once your dad's machine is clean, you can discuss it with the analyst helping you and install one of those. We want all our members to perform the steps outlined in the link given below, before posting for assistance. NEW INSTRUCTIONS - Read This Before Posting For Malware Removal Help After running through all the steps, you shall have a proper set of logs. Please post them in a new topic, as this one shall be closed. If you have trouble with one of the steps, simply move on to the next one, and make note of it in your reply.
