Vista becomes completely unresponsive after 5 mins use

I posted about a week ago with a problem and received no assistance, but it went away and for a while I could use my laptop again. Now it seems that 5 minutes after startup my computer becomes completely unresponsive for seemingly no reason. Task Manager gives no clues, I've ran virus and spyware checks. I've ran internet searches on most of the processes I'm running and haven't found anything concrete. Really quite desperate here, exhausted all that I can think of to do about this problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
