Urgent - need help removing wisdstr/msword98 trojan

I have a Dell laptop with XP SP3 on it. Yesterday, Avast AV started catching trojans in temp files.

The virus appears to be called msword98.exe? A file called wisdstr.exe appears to be involved?

Avast cannot remove this. It just keeps propagating to other locations. I have even tried rebooting directly in a scan with Avast. It detects and deletes the infected files, but then they just pop up again somewhere else.

HELP!!! How do I get rid of this thing?

On a side note, I have also deleted all temp files. There were a few that couldn't be removed that look suspicious. Says their in use by another application. Are there any free programs out there that will allow you to show what application(s) are accessing a given file?
