Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.
Before you do anything else, please create a folder for HijackThis and put it in a permanent folder (like C:\HJT) instead of the Temp folder. This is required because HijackThis will create backups and we don't want them to be deleted. You have an outdated version of HijackThis. Click here to get the latest version of HijackThis and run it. Before you give us a new log here, if we gave you instructions for a fix, please do the fixes first and then post the new log with this updated version. 1. If it gives you an intro screen, just choose 'Do a system scan and save a logfile'. 2. If you don't get the intro screen, just hit Scan and then click on Save log. 3. Get HijackThis Analyzer and save it to the same folder as the hijackthis.log file. Run HijackThis Analyzer and type in y if you agree. The result.txt file will open up in Notepad. Copy the whole result.txt log and post it in the forum. We do not need the original hijackthis.log (unless we ask for it). Do not fix anything in HijackThis since they may be harmless. Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that Display the contents of System Folders' is checked. Windows XP's search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that Search system folders, Search hidden files and folders, and Search subfolders are checked. For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep). Turn off system restore by right clicking on My Computer and go to Properties->System Restore and check the box for Turn off System Restore. Click Apply and then OK. Restart your computer. After we are finished with your log file and verified that it's clean, you may turn it back on and create a new restore point. You have the Peper infection. Download PeperUninstall. Make sure you are connected online to run this program. Run it once and reboot. Then run it again for the second time. Download PeperFix and save it to your Desktop. Run it and click Find and Fix (reboot if prompted). Download CWShredder and run it. Click on 'I Agree' button if you agree with it. Click on 'Fix' (it will automatically fix anything it finds for you) and OK. If it asks if you want to delete a certain random file, choose No and post that filename here. Let it finish the scan and then hit Next and Exit. The Temp folders should be cleaned out periodically as installation programs and hijack programs leave a lot of junk there. Download CleanUp! (Alternate Link if main link don't work) and install it. Run CleanUp! and click on CleanUp! button. When it asks you if you want to logoff, click on Yes. Reboot into Safe Mode (hit F8 key until menu shows up). Make sure to close any open browsers. Go into HijackThis->Config->Misc. Tools->Open process manager. Select the following and click Kill process for each one if they are still listed (they shouldn't be - but double check it): C:\Program Files\Common Files\WinTools\WToolsS.exe C:\documents and settings\owner\local settings\temp\hhn8P.exe C:\documents and settings\owner\local settings\temp\6AZUdme.exe C:\documents and settings\owner\local settings\temp\q6.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\WinTools\WToolsA.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\udhofmt.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\WinTools\WSup.exe C:\Program Files\CxtPls\CxtPls.exe Uninstall the following via the Add/Remove Panel (Start->(Settings)->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs) if they exist: WinTools WhenUSearch CxtPls WebOffer WildTangent - This is an online gaming package that is installed by a number of third party applications and even OEMs, ISPs and AIM. The games aspect of this is really rather cool. The being installed without you asking for it isn't cool at all. They collect information about you and your usage. We recommend uninstalling it. Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any): R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://www.websearch.com/ie.aspx?tb_id=50171 R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://websearch.shopnav.com/sidese...9286&id=5.20013 R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,SearchAssistant = http://www.websearch.com/ie.aspx?tb_id=50171 R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://websearch.shopnav.com/sidese...9286&id=5.20013 R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://websearch.shopnav.com/sidese...9286&id=5.20013 R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = http://www.websearch.com/ie.aspx?tb_id=50171 R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch = R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = websearch.shopnav.com/q.cgi?q= R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar,LinksFolderName = R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {87766247-311C-43B4-8499-3D5FEC94A183} - C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\WinTools\WToolsB.dll F2 - REG:system.ini: UserInit=C:\WINDOWS\system32\AUserInit.exe O2 - BHO: (no name) - {016235BE-59D4-4CEB-ADD5-E2378282A1D9} - C:\Program Files\CxtPls\cxtpls.dll O2 - BHO: Band Class - {01F44A8A-8C97-4325-A378-76E68DC4AB2E} - C:\WINDOWS\systb.dll O2 - BHO: (no name) - {549B5CA7-4A86-11D7-A4DF-000874180BB3} - (no file) O2 - BHO: (no name) - {87766247-311C-43B4-8499-3D5FEC94A183} - C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\WinTools\WToolsB.dll O2 - BHO: (no name) - {8DA5457F-A8AA-4CCF-A842-70E6FD274094} - C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\WinTools\WToolsT.dll O2 - BHO: Search Help - {E8EAEB34-F7B5-4C55-87FF-720FAF53D841} - C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\Temp\05R.dll O2 - BHO: (no name) - {FDD3B846-8D59-4ffb-8758-209B6AD74ACC} - (no file) O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {2CDE1A7D-A478-4291-BF31-E1B4C16F92EB} - (no file) O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WildTangent CDA] RUNDLL32.exe "C:\Program Files\WildTangent\Apps\CDA\cdaEngine0400.dll",cdaEngineMain O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [R1Q25NpB] C:\documents and settings\owner\local settings\temp\R1Q25NpB.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [hhn8P] C:\documents and settings\owner\local settings\temp\hhn8P.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [6AZUdme] C:\documents and settings\owner\local settings\temp\6AZUdme.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [v5IpNYMY] C:\documents and settings\owner\local settings\temp\v5IpNYMY.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [q6] C:\documents and settings\owner\local settings\temp\q6.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [2P6WFAX43ZHE7C] C:\WINDOWS\System32\HqjsOv.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WhenUSearch] C:\Program Files\WhenUSearch\Search.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WinTools] C:\Program Files\Common Files\WinTools\WToolsA.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [v3tg3nR] udhofmt.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [KernelFaultCheck] %systemroot%\system32\dumprep 0 -k O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Win Server Updt] C:\WINDOWS\pxckdla.exe O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [eZWO] C:\PROGRA~1\Web Offer\wo.exe O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [e02mRhd2U] ifshnd.exe O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [WinTools] C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\WinTools\WToolsA.exe O4 - Startup: PowerReg Scheduler V3.exe O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {120E090D-9136-4b78-8258-F0B44B4BD2AC} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\ms.exe (file missing) O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: MaxSpeed - {120E090D-9136-4b78-8258-F0B44B4BD2AC} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\ms.exe (file missing) Delete the following Files/Folders (delete folders if no filename is specified) according to their directory (if none, just do a search for them) and delete them if they exist: C:\WINDOWS\system32\ifshnd.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\udhofmt.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\AUserInit.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\HqjsOv.exe C:\WINDOWS\systb.dll C:\WINDOWS\pxckdla.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\WinTools\ C:\Program Files\CxtPls\ C:\Program Files\WildTangent\ C:\Program Files\WhenUSearch\ C:\Program Files\WebOffer\ PowerReg Scheduler V3.exe Run CleanUp! again. There should be a result.txt file created in that same folder you ran the analyzer in. If you can't find it, that's ok. Just give us the hijackthis.log file instead then.

Before you do anything else, please create a folder for HijackThis and put it in a permanent folder (like C:\HJT) instead of the Temp folder. This is required because HijackThis will create backups and we don't want them to be deleted.
Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below. The Temp folders should be cleaned out periodically as installation programs and hijack programs leave a lot of junk there. Download CleanUp! (Alternate Link if main link don't work) and install it. Don't run it yet. Reboot into Safe Mode (hit F8 key until menu shows up). Make sure to close any open browsers. Go into HijackThis->Config->Misc. Tools->Open process manager. Select the following and click Kill process for each one if they are still listed (they shouldn't be - but double check it): C:\Program Files\Common Files\WinTools\WToolsS.exe C:\documents and settings\owner\local settings\temp\hhn8P.exe C:\documents and settings\owner\local settings\temp\6AZUdme.exe C:\documents and settings\owner\local settings\temp\q6.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\WinTools\WToolsA.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\udhofmt.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\WinTools\WSup.exe C:\Program Files\CxtPls\CxtPls.exe Uninstall the following via the Add/Remove Panel (Start->(Settings)->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs) if they exist: eAcceleration CxtPls MaxSpeed WinTools WhenUSearch Web Offer WildTangent - This is an online gaming package that is installed by a number of third party applications and even OEMs, ISPs and AIM. The games aspect of this is really rather cool. The being installed without you asking for it isn't cool at all. They collect information about you and your usage. We recommend uninstalling it. Run a scan in HijackThis. Save the log file and run KRC HijackThis Analyzer in the same folder to get the result.txt log. Just post the contents of the result.txt file in the forum.

Reconfigure? Ummmm, not really. It turns off the running service which "saves" restore points on your system. We will have you turn it back on in the end.
If you choose not to turn it off, one of two things may/will occur: 1) Some malware files are know to havethe ability to resurrect themselves using this SR service. 2) You are left with restore points for a system state where you contain malware. Why would you want that? Here's a good link with LOTS of info on System Restore: http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_restore.htm

Get thru as much as you possibly can, then post a fresh HJT log. Sometimes these boogers fight pretty hard and take several rounds to remove.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.
Uninstall the following via the Add/Remove Panel (Start->(Settings)->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs) if they exist: Acceleration Software Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any): R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar,LinksFolderName = O2 - BHO: Search Help - {E8EAEB34-F7B5-4C55-87FF-720FAF53D841} - C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\Temp\W.dll O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [webscan] C:\Program Files\Acceleration Software\Anti-Virus\stopsignav.exe -k Delete the following Files/Folders (delete folders if no filename is specified) according to their directory (if none, just do a search for them) and delete them if they exist: C:\Program Files\Acceleration Software\ Run CleanUp! and click on CleanUp! button. When it asks you if you want to logoff, click on Yes. Reboot into Normal Mode and run new HijackThis scan. If there were some entries that didn't show up in Safe Mode, you may check and fix those that appear now in normal mode (if you do that, make sure to run a new scan again). Save the log file and run KRC HijackThis Analyzer in the same folder to get the result.txt log. Just post the contents of the result.txt file in the forum.

Hey-Thanks so much for taking time to help!! and so quickly too I might add! I really appreciate it!! My computer is running extremely well! Your log is clean. If you disabled System Restore, make sure to enable it now.
To help prevent future spyware installations/infections, please read the Anti-Spyware Tutorial (http://www.greyknight17.com/spyware.htm#prevent) and use the tools provided. Are there any problems now? If not, you should be set to go.
