Linksys handing out IP addresses
Hello,
Our little home network consists of an OSX Mac and this XP Dell. Attempts were made to connect them to exchange files but it never works from one side or the other which actually is ok and this can be abandoned. The three remaining and persistent problems are: 1) Now the XP thinks its a server (which maybe is ok?) 2) The linksys router is confused and keeps handing out IP addresses causing duplicate names to exist (at least I think this is what is happening) and other reoccuring problems with settings 3) I think various antispyware is in conflict. The automatic update that came from Microsoft today to supposedly fix this made it worse. Outlook wouldn't start and said I needed to create a new profile and had to system restore a million times. To send a message in Outlook, every time I open the program I have to test the account settings to get Norton to scan and send. Here is the Hijack this log, good luck deciphering what this means and thanks. I don't see anything wrong here except for the two antivirus programs you have there. You have both Norton and AVG. Keep one and uninstall the other.
You have an outdated version of HijackThis. Click here to get the latest version of HijackThis and run it. 1. If it gives you an intro screen, just choose 'Do a system scan and save a logfile'. 2. If you don't get the intro screen, just hit Scan and then click on Save log. 3. Get HijackThis Analyzer and save it to the same folder as the hijackthis.log file. Run HijackThis Analyzer and type in y if you agree. The result.txt file will open up in Notepad. Copy the whole result.txt log and post it in the forum. We do not need the original hijackthis.log (unless we ask for it). Do not fix anything in HijackThis since they may be harmless. This may not be spyware related, but post the latest log and if that's clean, post this question in the networking category.

Thanks GreyKnight 17
Hi and thanks.
Will uninstall AVG, update Hijack this, run the analyzer and post in networking along with original questions. Have a great day! Debbie
