Toshiba tablet M400 virus- what to do?
My Toshiba tablet seems to be infected with viruses, and I have no idea what to do about it. I don't know many computer terms, so I apologize in advance for my lack of knowledge... I also hope I posted this in the right section.
Here is what is happening: I got the "blue screen of death" about two days ago, and when I turned my computer back on I noticed on the desktop there was an icon for "System Security 2009" which had not been there before. I clicked on it and it opened, and started scanning my computer. Then it said I have 38 viruses, and then it went to a page where I can buy software to protect my computer- I read in another article that this is probably a scan. Is that true? My normal security- Symantic Antivirus- also opened and said I have viruses. Then internet explorer opened up multiple windows, and after that I turned the computer off. Once I turned the computer back on, the new "System Security 2009" opened again, and so did my Symantic Antivirus. The internet explorer windows didn't open though. I restarted my computer a couple more times and got the blue screen of death one more time. Now I have my computer on and the System Security is up, but not Symantic Antivirus. Also, on the toolbar (I think that's what it's called), I have multiple tablet computer icons, and there is a System Security icon above which messages keep popping up which say: "WARNING! Application can not be executed. The file "(name keeps changing... but right now it's 00THotkey.exe) is infected. Please activate your antivirus software." I have been trying to active Symantic but now it won't open... I read somewhere else about disabling system restore, or something along those lines, but I don't know what that means... will this wipe my computer of all my files? I know that I may have to end up taking my computer to a professional, but I would really like to try to fix this myself first... thank you so much to anyone who is willing to help out! |
