Re: Virus Infecting HTML Files - 2

Hi,

As suspected, the system is indeed infected with Virut, and some core system files have already been affected.

As suggested in your previous thread, the best approach is to save your data and start afresh with a reformat and reinstall.

Good luck!

Re: Virus Infecting HTML Files - 2

I have backed up everything i need, and tried to stare the recovery console..

It was starting when i received the following error message:

"STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error]
The Windows Logon system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc0000005 (0x00000000 0x00000000).
The system has been shut down."

I restared it, and went in to setup where i used F5 to reset defaults. It would still not boot to the recovery console, however it would boot normally.

Is there another route I can take to reformat my hard drive? Unfortunately i do not own a wondows cd.

Thanks for any advice
Steph

Re: Virus Infecting HTML Files - 2

Without a CD, it would be impossible unless your machine has an in-built recovery partition.
Some machines such as Dell and HP have recovery partitions to set the machine to the factory settings.
However, you would be better served with such issues at our Windows XP Help forum, as this section of the forum is specialized in malware removal only.
