Why has my computer gone so SLOW??

Hi,
I have a Dell Latitude D600 notebook, with a 1.8 GHz processor and 1GB RAM, running Win XP.
I don't know what has happened to it, perhaps my kids got hold of it and installed something that's causing trouble, but this computer is now unusably slow. Not just internet, even local apps are slower than molasses. Startup can take well over 5 minutes, and it can take over 2 minutes just to open Firefox!

Your help is, as always, greatly appreciated.

And yet, because you posted a HijackThis log, your topic was moved to the Security section.

A slow machine is not always a product of infection. I don't see any sign of active infection

This appears to be a work machine. Is that the case? If so, we generally do not support company machines, and direct users to contact their IT staff or help desk.
