Multiple Trojans

The business computer at work has been really slow lately. AVG wouldn't update saying, "a .bin file is missing". I manually updated it, downloading it from another computer because FF and IE aren't working. Once updated, Firefox worked but the searches were being hijacked. It also found many trojan viruses just after it updated. Most of them I could "heal" but many I couldn't.

I ran all the scans I was supposed to, and now FF won't work. (I am now posting from a different computer.)

Please follow all instructions and in which order they come, if you have any questions, please ask before proceeding. Its important that you follow this through until i give you the all clear.

Please DO NOT Attach logs to your posts unless you are advised to do so.

=========

Download Combofix from any of the links below. You must rename it before saving it. Save it to your desktop.

Link 1
Link 2
Link 3

* IMPORTANT !!! Place combofix.exe on your Desktop

Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with ComboFix.

Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.

As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed.

Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

The Windows recovery console will allow you to boot up into a special recovery mode that allows us to help you in the case that your computer has a problem after an attempted removal of malware.

With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal.

Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement.

ComboFix will now automatically install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console onto your computer, which will show up as a new option when booting up your computer. Do not select the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console option when you start your computer unless requested to by a helper.

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see a message that says:

The Recovery Console was successfully installed.

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

Your desktop may go blank. This is normal. It will return when ComboFix is done. ComboFix may reboot your machine. This is normal.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply

Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall.

Re: Multiple Trojans

Sorry it is taking me so long, I go to school in Ohio during the week and work in Michigan on weekend. I can only work on it at work.

Re: Multiple Trojans

Hi

Clear your Java cache and try again.
http://fxtrade.oanda.com/support/tro...ar_cache.shtml

If problem persists, try this scanner instead.

ESET Online Scanner
Go here to run an online scannner from ESET.
  • Note: You will need to use Internet explorer for this scan
  • Turn off the real time scanner of any existing antivirus program while performing the online scan
  • Tick the box next to YES, I accept the Terms of Use.
  • Click Start
  • When asked, allow the activex control to install
  • Click Start
  • Make sure that the option Remove found threats is unticked and the Scan Archives option is ticked.
  • Click on Advanced Settings, ensure the options Scan for potentially unwanted applications, Scan for potentially unsafe applications, and Enable Anti-Stealth Technology are ticked.
  • Click Scan
  • Wait for the scan to finish
  • Use notepad to open the logfile located at C:\Program Files\Eset\Eset Online Scanner\log.txt
  • Copy and paste that log as a reply to this topic and also let me know how things are now.

Re: Multiple Trojans

The computer seems to be running better. One thing I forgot to mention before was that it computer occasionally freezes up. If you hit Ctrl Alt Del the screen will flash black and then Task Manager opens the computer will return to normal. It will sometimes do this once or twice a minute, then not do it again for hours. It has done this for a while, at least a few months. Sometimes it will freeze for a couple seconds and flash black on its own, fixing the problem. When it freezes up, you can still move the mouse, and whatever you click while its frozen will open after the screen flashes black. Other then that, I don't notice anything odd.

It has done this for a while, at least a few months. Sometimes it will freeze for a couple seconds and flash black on its own, fixing the problem. When it freezes up, you can still move the mouse, and whatever you click while its frozen will open after the screen flashes black. Other then that, I don't notice anything odd.
The freezing/black screen is getting pretty bad. It happened probably 10 times within a minute and over 10 minutes it happened probably 25 times.

Since BackWeb may be used by third-party applications/hardware i shall leave those entries alone. If you do any gaming online you may need to install WildTangent and for that reason i shall leave those entries as well.

WOT Free helps you avoid disingenuous Internet content by allowing you to learn from others' experiences. WOT shows you website reputations on your browser, telling you how much other users trust a website. This helps you make better decisions while browsing and avoid phishing, malware, and other types of fraud. Reputations can also be added to web search results, Gmail, Wikipedia, and other selected sites.

WOT reputations are computed mainly from user testimonies. Sharing your knowledge with others is just a click away, without ever having to leave the site. We also collect data from hundreds of other sources (including PhishTank) to quickly warn you of emerging threats. Currently, WOT knows over 12 million websites.

Note that if you use a company provided HOSTS file you should not use the MVPS HOSTS file.

If your having trouble downloading & extracting, see link below for guidance:
