Laptop won't connect to internet

Hi There,

My grandad has a compaq laptop which won't connect to the internet using either IE or Firefox.

I've checked the network settings and it does pick up the network, so I'm thinking that it can't be the network adapter. I've tried connecting the laptop to the router both wirelessly and using an rj45 cable. My laptop, though, works on both my grandads router and my router. So i've covered everything there ... I think.

So, I was wondering if there was some kind of malware running on the laptop that was preventing webpages from displaying ... oh yeah, IE says the 'Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage' and Firefox says 'Address Not Found'.

BTW, i've installed AVG 8.5 and that didn't pick anything up either.

I'm not seeing any malware here. Why aren't there any Restore points..???

Have you tried right clicking on the internet icon in the tray and select 'Diagnose and repair'

Thanks for getting back in touch.

I've already tried doing the diagnose and repair, both on the wireless adapter and the local area connection. (I've tried it again just to be sure.)

But the messages it keeps giving back to me are that there might be a problem with one or more network adapters.

But I thought that seeing as the laptop is relatively new (less than 9months old i think) there wouldn't be a hardware fault but that there would be something dodgy going on!!!

I guess from what your saying, though, it looks likes there could be a hardware fault. (will i need to repost in a different thread??)

Are there any tools I can download that will help me this??

This really is not my area of expertise so I don't want to give you a bunch of 'try this, and try that'. It's best you begin a thread in the Networking Support section of this forum.
