PC Freezing
As above. Say I try to open a file located at the My Documents folder. I double click on the folder and when I am scrolling to find the file I wanna open, there is a slight freeze. I find the file I want and I double click on it to open, there is again a freeze. Also, when I am surfing on Firefox, my Firefox does freeze for a second or two from time to time. I am not sure if it is something really sinister even though my SpyBot,Malwarebytes and Avast! are not turning up anything. Below are my DDS and GMER Logs. I'd greatly appreciate some help here! :)

This type of infection allows hackers to remotely control your computer, log keystrokes, steal critical system information, and download and execute files without your knowledge. If you do any banking or other financial transactions on the PC or if it should contain any other sensitive information, please get to a known clean computer and change all passwords where applicable, and it would be wise to contact those same financial institutions to apprise them of your situation. Please read this: How Do I Handle Possible Identify Theft, Internet Fraud, and CC Fraud? ------------------------------------------------------ Please note that these fixes are not instantaneous. Most infections require more than one round to properly eradicate. Please stay with me until given the 'all clear' even if symptoms seemingly abate. Kindly follow my instructions and please do no fixing on your own or running of scanners unless requested by a helper. ------------------------------------------------------ While Spybot's TeaTimer is an excellent tool for the prevention of spyware, it can sometimes prevent tools from fixing certain things. Please disable TeaTimer for now until you are clean. TeaTimer can be re-activated once your logs are clean.

Re: PC Freezing
Hello Chemist, great to have you helping me. Now that I am done with running Combofix I assume it should be ok for me to resume my TeaTimer and Avast! in the meantime, before I proceed with the subsequent steps? Also, I think there is a WIndows update, can I also proceed with that before proceeding with the later steps to fix the trojans?
Here is my ComboFix log: _________________________________________________________________ ComboFix 09-03-29.04 - faustina.chay.2003 2009-03-31 11:03:25.1 - NTFSx86 Microsoft Windows XP Professional 5.1.2600.2.1252.1.1033.18.383.158 [GMT 8:00] Running from: c:\documents and settings\faustina.chay.2003\Desktop\ComboFix.exe AV: avast! antivirus 4.8.1335 [VPS 090330-0] *On-access scanning disabled* (Updated) * Created a new restore point . Re: PC Freezing
Hello HydrogenRainbow. Please tell us how your system is behaving.
Please copy this page to Notepad and Save it to your Desktop in order to assist you when carrying out the following instructions. Before beginning the fix, read this post completely. If there's anything that you do not understand, kindly ask your questions before proceeding. Ensure that there aren't any opened browsers when you are carrying out the procedures below. It is IMPORTANT that you don't miss a step & perform everything in the correct order/sequence. ------------------------------------------------------ Open Notepad and copy/paste the entire contents of the codebox below into Notepad (don't forget to copy and paste REGEDIT4): Code:
REGEDIT4
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows nt\currentversion\windows]
"AppInit_DLLs"=""
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\explorer\mountpoints2\{09f50640-0831-11dd-bee6-00061be144fb}]
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\explorer\mountpoints2\{3e2326c7-85b3-11dc-bd3a-00061be144fb}]
It should look like this: Double-click on fix.reg and choose Yes to merge/add it to the registry. Please delete the file afterwards. ------------------------------------------------------ Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update.
Please download ATF-Cleaner by Atribune and Save it to your Desktop.
For Technical Support, double-click the e-mail address located at the bottom of each menu. ------------------------------------------------------ Please run this online scan to help look for remnants. Establish an internet connection & perform an online scan at Kaspersky Online Scanner Ensure your external and/or USB drives are inserted during the scan. Click Accept, when prompted to download and install the program files and database of malware definitions.
![]() **Note** To optimize scanning time and produce a more sensible report for review:
------------------------------------------------------ Please post the following in your next reply: Kaspersky report report on system behavior |

Re: PC Freezing
Hello Chemist,
Have done the above and here is the Kaspersky report. Computer seems to be running fine, just that the problem about it freezing when I am browsing through to search for certain files has not resolved. E.g. when I was browsing through the MyDocuments folder to find the Kaspersky report to upload it froze for a bit. And when I am accessing my yahoo email account, when I click on the mail option on yahoo, I get this message: You are about to view pages over a secure connection. Any information you exchange with this site cannot be viewed by anyone else on the web". I did not get this message previously..... Also, is it safe to do my windows update?? Re: PC Freezing
Hello HydrogenRainbow.
Open Notepad and copy/paste the entire contents of the codebox below into Notepad: Code:
@echo off if exist "%temp%\log.txt" del "%temp%\log.txt" for %%g in ( "C:\Documents and Settings\faustina.chay.2003\My Documents\My Received Files\Eview5.1FullStandard.rar" ) do ( del /a/f/q %%g >nul 2>&1 if exist %%g echo.%%~g>>"%temp%\log.txt" ) if exist "%temp%\log.txt" ( start notepad "%temp%\log.txt" ) else echo.Deleted Successfully !! pause del %0 It should look like this: Double-click on fix.bat to run it. Tell me what it says in your next reply. Press any key to continue. ------------------------------------------------------ Quote:

Re: PC Freezing
Congratulations. Well done! Your logs appear clean. You should be good to go.
Please disable avast! before uninstalling ComboFix and then re-enable it after doing so. Go to Start >> Run and Copy/Paste the following single-line command into the Run box and click OK: combofix /u This will uninstall ComboFix and delete ComboFix's quarantine folder. It will also implement some cleanup procedures, remove old System Restore Points which contain previous infections, and create a fresh, clean System Restore Point. Please re-enable your antivirus program and any other antispyware programs disabled earlier if you haven't already. Please re-enable TeaTimer:
You can safely delete any tools downloaded or any logs, files, and any shortcuts on your desktop that were created during this fix. ------------------------------------------------------ MICROSOFT UPDATES It is very important that you get all of the critical updates for your Operating System and Internet Explorer. Keeping your OS and browser up to date will help make you less susceptible to attacks by Trojans and viruses. Please go to Microsoft and download all the critical updates to help prevent possible re-infection. ANTIVIRUS PROGRAM It is imperative that you have an AntiVirus program running on your computer. Connecting to the internet without an AntiVirus program is an open invitation for infection. Here are a few very good free Antivirus products which are available: Select one of these, or another of your choice. Download, install, update definitions, and run a full system scan. Do not install more than one AntiVirus program as they will conflict with each other.FIREWALL Using a third-party Firewall will allow you to give/deny access for applications that want to go online. Select one of these, or another of your choice: Do not install more than one Firewall program as they will conflict with each other.SPYWARE PREVENTION This is a good time to set up protection against further attacks. In light of your recent problem, I'm sure you'd like to avoid any future infections. Please read these well written articles: To help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you get the following free programs if you do not already have them:

Re: PC Freezing
You're very welcome! Glad to have helped.
You can keep dds and gmer if you wish. But I wouldn't remove anything they find unless under the supervision of a qualified helper. |
