Re: Redirect to other sites from Google search (partial fix, leftovers?)
Since my earlier post re: a redirect problem, the problems continued...system restore was not functional, I was unable to open IE without it freezing the computer, and applications wouldn't execute (even in safe mode).
Since IE was not working, I couldn't download Malwarebyte's anti-malware software to see if I could get the system to detect the viruses. I tried FF, which I hadn't used in a long time. Thankfully, that seemed to work and after a bit of trouble trying to get the file to execute (found a work-around for that)...voila - a number of nasties found, quarantined, then deleted upon reboot. Did another scan...and nothing was detected. My guess is...there are some 'leftovers' as the system is running very slowly now. As a side note, checked/updated Windows incl from XP SP2 to SP3. So, here is a new DDS and along with zipped attachment. I appreciate anything you can do to get this computer back on track. Thanks!! --- DDS (Ver_09-03-16.01) - NTFSx86 Run by TR at 17:02:40.39 on 03-28-2009 Internet Explorer: 7.0.5730.13 BrowserJavaVersion: 1.6.0_05 Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition 5.1.2600.3.1252.1.1033.18.1014.423 [GMT -4:00] AV: Norton Internet Security *On-access scanning enabled* (Updated) FW: Norton Internet Security *enabled* ============== Running Processes =============== C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost -k DcomLaunch svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe -k netsvcs C:\Program Files\Intel\Wireless\Bin\EvtEng.exe C:\Program Files\Intel\Wireless\Bin\S24EvMon.exe svchost.exe svchost.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccProxy.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccSetMgr.exe C:\Program Files\Norton Internet Security\ISSVC.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\SNDSrvc.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\SPBBC\SPBBCSvc.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccEvtMgr.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exe C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Version Cue CS2\bin\VersionCueCS2.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\bin\AppleMobileDeviceService.exe C:\Program Files\Symantec\LiveUpdate\ALUSchedulerSvc.exe C:\Program Files\Hotspot Shield\bin\openvpnas.exe C:\Program Files\LogMeIn\x86\RaMaint.exe C:\Program Files\LogMeIn\x86\LogMeIn.exe C:\Program Files\LogMeIn\x86\LMIGuardian.exe C:\Program Files\Norton Internet Security\Norton AntiVirus\navapsvc.exe C:\Program Files\Intel\Wireless\Bin\RegSrvc.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe -k imgsvc C:\Program Files\Sony\VAIO Event Service\VESMgr.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Sony Shared\VAIO Entertainment Platform\VCSW\VCSW.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Sony Shared\VAIO Entertainment Platform\VzCdb\VzCdbSvc.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Sony Shared\VAIO Entertainment Platform\VzCdb\VzFw.exe C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Version Cue CS2\data\database\bin\mysqld-nt.exe C:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXE C:\Program Files\Apoint\Apoint.exe C:\Program Files\Sony\VAIO Power Management\SPMgr.exe C:\Program Files\Sony\VAIO Update 2\VAIOUpdt.exe C:\Program Files\Sony\ISB Utility\ISBMgr.exe C:\Program Files\Apoint\Apntex.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccApp.exe C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesHelper.exe C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_05\bin\jusched.exe C:\Program Files\LogMeIn\x86\LogMeInSystray.exe C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Version Cue CS2\ControlPanel\VersionCueCS2Tray.exe C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 8.0\Acrobat\Acrotray.exe C:\Program Files\LogMeIn\x86\LMIGuardian.exe C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe C:\Program Files\Google\GoogleToolbarNotifier\GoogleToolbarNotifier.exe C:\Garmin\gStart.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\ctfmon.exe C:\Program Files\Quicken\QWDLLS.EXE C:\Program Files\Common Files\Macrovision Shared\FLEXnet Publisher\FNPLicensingService.exe C:\Program Files\iPod\bin\iPodService.exe C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe C:\Documents and Settings\TR\Desktop\dds.scr C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 8.0\Acrobat\AcrobatInfo.exe ============== Pseudo HJT Report =============== uStart Page = https://www.google.com/ uSearch Page = hxxp://www.google.com uSearch Bar = hxxp://www.google.com/ie uSearchMigratedDefaultURL = hxxp://www.google.com/search?q={searchTerms}&sourceid=ie7&rls=com.microsoft:en-US&ie=utf8&oe=utf8 uSearchAssistant = hxxp://www.google.com/ie uSearchURL,(Default) = hxxp://www.google.com/search?q=%s mSearchAssistant = hxxp://www.google.com/ie BHO: Adobe PDF Reader Link Helper: {06849e9f-c8d7-4d59-b87d-784b7d6be0b3} - Re: Redirect to other sites from Google search
Hello, and Welcome to TSF.
Please subscribe to this thread to get immediate notification of replies as soon as they are posted. To do this click Thread Tools, then click Subscribe to this Thread. Make sure it is set to Instant Notification, then click Subscribe. Before beginning the fix, read this post completely. If there's anything that you do not understand, kindly ask your questions before proceeding. Ensure that there aren't any opened browsers when you are carrying out the procedures below. Save the following instructions in Notepad as this webpage would not be available when you're carrying out the fix. It is IMPORTANT that you don't miss a step & perform everything in the correct order/sequence. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- One or more of the identified infections is a backdoor trojan. This type of infection allows hackers to remotely control your computer, steal critical system information and download and execute files without your knowledge. If you do any banking or other financial transactions on the PC or if it should contain any other sensitive information, please get to a known clean computer and change all passwords where applicable, and it would be wise to contact those same financial institutions to apprise them of your situation. You can read this: How Do I Handle Possible Identify Theft, Internet Fraud and CC Fraud? --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Please note that these fixes are not instantaneous. Most infections require more than one round to properly eradicate. Stay with me until given the 'all clear' even if symptoms diminish. Lack of symptoms does not always mean the job is complete. Kindly follow my instructions and please do no fixing on your own or running of scanners unless requested by me or another helper at this forum. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Re: Redirect to other sites from Google search
Hi Rut -
That looks good, but some things don't quite add up. Did you happen to run malwarebytes' antimalware between your last post (post #2), and running ComboFix? I'd like to see the most recent log from mbam. Please don't run it again, just open it, go to the Logs tab, highlight the most recent log and click Open. The log will open, please post it.

Re: Redirect to other sites from Google search
I ran a full scan with Malwarebyte's after Post #1. It caught quite a few things, and deleted them on re-boot. The following scan is quick scan I had done immediately after that re-boot to see whether it did, in fact, delete everything. It was then I ran the DDS/and attach files for posting in #2.
Here is that last Malwarebyte log: Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware 1.35 Database version: 1904 Windows 5.1.2600 Service Pack 2 03-28-2009 12:56:43 PM mbam-log-2009-03-28 (12-56-43).txt Scan type: Quick Scan Objects scanned: 76591 Time elapsed: 8 minute(s), 3 second(s) Memory Processes Infected: 0 Memory Modules Infected: 0 Registry Keys Infected: 0 Registry Values Infected: 0 Registry Data Items Infected: 0 Folders Infected: 0 Files Infected: 0 Memory Processes Infected: (No malicious items detected) Memory Modules Infected: (No malicious items detected) Registry Keys Infected: (No malicious items detected) Registry Values Infected: (No malicious items detected) Registry Data Items Infected: (No malicious items detected) Folders Infected: (No malicious items detected) Files Infected: (No malicious items detected) |

Re: Redirect to other sites from Google search
Hi Rut -
Thanks...if you could post that log which removed things, I'd like to see it. Things look pretty good from my end. How is the machine behaving? We still have some work to do. Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Go here to run an online scannner from ESET.
Also post the initial mbam scan log, the one where the removals took place.

Re: Redirect to other sites from Google search
Here's the first log...as you can see, it captured a few nasties and according to the second log, looks like the delete on reboot captured everything that Malwarebyte's caught.
I'll go ahead and perform the other things you've suggested. System seems to be running much better (still a little slow), but I want to make sure that I haven't left anything lurking. Re: Redirect to other sites from Google search
Ok great....that does help explain the differences I was seeing between the gmer log and the ComboFix log.

Re: Redirect to other sites from Google search
Installed new Java (old stuff removed).
Only thing I'm noting is start-up (after reboot) takes a longggggg time. But, system seems to be running better now. Here's the ESET scan log (sorry for delay, that took awhile). ------ # version=4 # OnlineScanner.ocx=1.0.0.635 # OnlineScannerDLLA.dll=1, 0, 0, 79 # OnlineScannerDLLW.dll=1, 0, 0, 78 # OnlineScannerUninstaller.exe=1, 0, 0, 49 # vers_standard_module=3972 (20090328) # vers_arch_module=1.064 (20080214) # vers_adv_heur_module=1.066 (20070917) # EOSSerial=12ef000d9de69e4881e9f5eacc1b4cae # end=finished # remove_checked=false # unwanted_checked=true # utc_time=2009-03-29 08:52:26 # local_time=2009-03-29 04:52:26 (-0500, Eastern Daylight Time) # country="United States" # osver=5.1.2600 NT Service Pack 3 # scanned=500061 # found=0 # scan_time=4018 |

Re: Redirect to other sites from Google search
Logs are clean, see if disabling some unnecessary startups help with load time. Adobe, LogMeIn, Sony, HP Printer, do these all need to run at Windows start?
Please see this sticky topic: Is your PC running slow...? From a malware perspective, we should be done here. If you need additional assistance, please ask in the Windows XP section of the forums. The other items Kaspersky found are in ComboFix quarantine, and will be addressed by uninstalling ComboFix as instructed below Other than that.... Your logs appear clean. You should be good to go. We still have a few items to address. Go to -> Run -> copy/paste in the following single line command & click OKcombofix /u This will uninstall ComboFix. It will also implement some cleanup procedures and reset System Restore points. Now that your system is clean, to help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you follow these steps and look into the following free programs:
In light of your recent troubles, I'm sure you'll like to avoid any future infections. Please take a look at these well written articles Please respond to this thread one more time so we can mark this thread as resolved.

Re: Redirect to other sites from Google search
Fantastic news. Will get rid of ComboFix, get rid of some start-up programs (that don't need to be there at start-up), and of course...keep things up-to-date.
I really appreciate the assistance!! Cheers |
