Laptop woes
Gkids got on my laptop and now its running like mud, and my wife and myself were playing a word game and i could hear voices in the background.
Today i fired it up and some audio was running again. So I have the attach.txt and the dds.txt zipped and sittin on the desktop, but i can't get the gmer to run. I unzipped it and double clicked the gmer file and i get the hourglass but thats it, nothing else happens. Can someone help me out? Thanks Tony |

Re: Laptop woes
Hello tinner105. Delete ComboFix.exe from your desktop.
------------------------------------------------------ Download ComboFix from any of the links below. You must rename it to Combo-Fix before saving it. Save it to your Desktop. If you are using Firefox, go to Tools > Options > Main and select 'Always ask me where to save files' and click OK. Link 1 Link 2 Link 3 ![]() ![]() * IMPORTANT !!! Save Combo-Fix.exe to your Desktop ------------------------------------------------------
![]() Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message: ![]() Click on Yes to continue scanning for malware. When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply. ------------------------------------------------------ |

Re: Laptop woes
Hello again, tinner105.
Please copy this page to Notepad and Save it to your Desktop in order to assist you when carrying out the following instructions. Before beginning the fix, read this post completely. If there's anything that you do not understand, kindly ask your questions before proceeding. Ensure that there aren't any opened browsers when you are carrying out the procedures below. It is IMPORTANT that you don't miss a step & perform everything in the correct order/sequence. ------------------------------------------------------ Your antivirus appears to be outdated. If you cannot update it, I can suggest a good, free one. ------------------------------------------------------ Please uninstall the following via Start->(or My Computer)->Control Panel->Add or Remove Programs if it still exists: Search Assistant Mysidesearch<<Please read this ---------------------------------------------------- I see you have P2P software ( LimeWire ) installed on your machine. We are not here to pass judgment on file-sharing as a concept. However, we will warn you that engaging in this activity and having this kind of software installed on your machine will always make you more susceptible to re-infections. It may be contributing to your current situation. This page will give you further information. Please note: Even if you are using a "safe" P2P program, it is only the program that is safe. You will be sharing files from uncertified sources, and these are often infected. The bad guys use P2P filesharing as a major conduit to spread their wares. References for the risk of these programs are here, here, and here. I would strongly recommend that you uninstall it, however that choice is up to you. If you choose to remove this program, you can do so via Control Panel >> Add or Remove Programs. ------------------------------------------------------ Close any open browsers. Disable your antivirus and antispyware applications, usually via a right-click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with ComboFix. Open Notepad and copy/paste all the text in the codebox below into Notepad: Code:
http://www.techsupportforum.com/security-center/virus-trojan-spyware-help/360269-laptop-woes.html#post2047795 Collect:: c:\windows\system32\bvfrltsejf.dll c:\windows\system32\13a124a0-9e84-46da-c975-f33effbda14f.exe c:\windows\system32\bvfrltsejf.dll-uninst.exe c:\windows\system32\nsg26.dll File:: c:\windows\Tasks\EasyShare Registration Task.job Registry:: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\security center] "AntiVirusDisableNotify"=dword:00000000 "UpdatesDisableNotify"=dword:00000000 Driver:: MSSQL$ACT7 SQLAgent$ACT7 ![]() Referring to the picture above, drag CFScript onto ComboFix If you are prompted to update ComboFix and have an internet connection, please choose Yes Your desktop may go blank. This is normal. It will return when ComboFix is done. ComboFix may reboot your machine. This is normal. When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please post that log, ComboFix.txt in your next reply. Note: Do not mouseclick ComboFix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall. **Note** When CF finishes running, the ComboFix log will open along with a message box--do not be alarmed. With the above script, ComboFix will capture files to submit for analysis.
There should be a file named [4]-Submit_date@time.zip with today's date, located here: C:\QooBox\Quarantine\[4]-Submit_date@time.zip Using the 'Browse' button, please submit it to this site ==> http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/subm....php?channel=4 Please let me know if you successfully submitted the file. Thanks. ------------------------------------------------------ |

Re: Laptop woes
Hello again, tinner105. Please tell us how your system is behaving.
------------------------------------------------------ It appears you didn't submit the file. There should be a file named [4]-Submit_date@time.zip located here: C:\QooBox\Quarantine\[4]-Submit_date@time.zip Using the 'Browse' button, please submit it to this site ==> http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/subm....php?channel=4 Please let me know if you successfully submitted the file. Thanks. ------------------------------------------------------ Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update.
Please download ATF-Cleaner by Atribune and Save it to your Desktop.
For Technical Support, double-click the e-mail address located at the bottom of each menu. ------------------------------------------------------ Please run this online scan to help look for remnants. Establish an internet connection & perform an online scan at Kaspersky Online Scanner Ensure your external and/or USB drives are inserted during the scan. Click Accept, when prompted to download and install the program files and database of malware definitions.

------------------------------------------------------ Please post the following in your next reply: Kaspersky report report on system behavior |

Re: Laptop woes
Hello again, Tony. All the finds by Kaspersky have been quarantined by Norton or ComboFix. QooBox will get deleted when we uninstall ComboFix.
Please delete those files in Norton quarantine. If you have trouble, please use Symantec's guide to remove the Norton Quarantine files. ------------------------------------------------------ Try this to uninstall unwanted programs: http://www.revouninstaller.com/unins..._programs.html ------------------------------------------------------ As far as a purchased antivirus, you can't go wrong with ESET's NOD32: www.eset.com/download/ You can try if free for 30 days. If you uninstall Norton, run this removal tool after uninstalling: Please download the Norton Removal Tool and Save it to your Desktop.

Re: Laptop woes
I'm trying to delete the quarantined items in Norton but when i click the View the report button i get an error message " Norton AntiVirus Quarantine Consol has encountered a problem and needs to close." then asks about sending an error report.
Thanks Tony one more thing... I have windows set up to tell me when there are updates to be installed I keep getting a messsage that security update KB954430 needs to be installed..... This makes about the 10th time ive seen this message and ive installed it a few times including a few minutes ago along with a couple other recomended updates.... I just got the message again that i need to install it again... so what am i doing wrong? Do i need to disable auto protect? Thanks tony Last edited by tinner105; 03-28-2009 at 12:58 PM. |
