Mouse freezes up on Dell

I have a Dell Dimension B110. I am using Windows XP. The mouse will freeze up after 30min of use. I plug into another USB port and it works for a small extended time. After it freezes again, I move on to another port. Each time it freezes in less elapsed time. Keyboard still works fine. I have recently had trouble with my CD driver which I reinstalled. Security could not find malware but I am not ruling that out. Upon preparing for a Tech Support Forum malware check I ran the GMER scan, left the room, and found it had stopped; "insufficient resources". I assume the Antivirus kicked on as I was able to do a full scan today. I have removed many startup programs hoping to use less CPU, to no avail. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

On my first try I uploaded the info to the wrong area. I'm not sure the best way to fix this. I can't upload the same file again.

Re: Mouse freezes up on Dell

Hi -

I'm not seeing anything in those logs to suggest malware is the cause of the issue. The fact that the mouse works well for a time as you change USB ports suggests an issue with the mouse itself, or the mouse drivers.

Best if you try to troubleshoot this issue in the hardware section of the forum, as our focus is malware removal. Don't post any logs there, as you'll just get referred back here, as you found out in your other topic in the Windows XP section.

Other Hardware Support

http://www.techsupportforum.com/hard...dware-support/

Some things I did notice

Uninstall the following via the Add/Remove Panel (Start->(Settings)->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs):

J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 10
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 11
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 9
Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2_03
Java(TM) 6 Update 2
Java(TM) 6 Update 3
Java(TM) 6 Update 5
Java(TM) 6 Update 7
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment 6 Update 1

These are all outdated, and security risks by having them installed still. Unfortunately, Java does not uninstall these older versions when you update, nor tell you that you should. Going forward, Java will overwrite existing installs, so removing older versions should not be required after this.

Leave Java(TM) 6 Update 11 alone, as it has the most recent security updates.

Thumbs Up Re: Mouse freezes up on Dell

Tetonbob, Thanks for offering your time and talent.
The old Java is gone and the articles on registry cleaners are eye-opening. Come to think of it, I began experiencing glitches around the time I started running my registry cleaner.
