Just need a few answers.
So a few days ago I left my house for a few hours and left my computer on and was running a defrag and virus scan. I came home to find over 30 window error windows up saying "rundll32.exe not found" and so I got on to Mozilla and was searching to see if this was either a virus or something just went wrong with my computer, found out that Trojans can do something with this file.
I have a general idea about what this file does and I've checked my C:\Windows\System32 files and it's right there. Wellllll, that error has stopped, a quick scan and a seclution of the Trojan that may have had its happy hour with the file is gone, but another problem persists. Everytime I reboot after a scan or an update that I'm prompted to and just a normal reboot, I get an error message talking about 2 dll's that I'm guessing were in my C:\Users\(my name)\AppData\Local\Temp folder. I'm at school right now typing up this post to see if I can get any feedback by the time I'm home, but I'll edit the post with the names of my dll's that are missing when I am on my own computer. I'm just wondering if this is a virus that has deleted the 2 dll's or if they're needed? Me doing a scan could have seen those files as dangerous and put them up, but I'm not sure...would a System Restore back a few days do any good? Just need a few answers or just someway to stop the errors if possible. Thanks guys, always helpful. |

Re: Just need a few answers.
Sounds to me like you had/have a Vundo infection, and the files associated with the startup call are now deleted, but the registry items remain. If they are seemingly random named dll files, you don't need to replace them you need to remove the startup call from the registry.
Rundll32.exe is a legit system file, it gets used by malware sometimes. If you need further assistance.... We want all our members to perform the steps outlined in the link I'll give you below, before posting for assistance. There's a sticky at the top of this forum, and a Quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Please follow our pre-posting process outlined here: NEW INSTRUCTIONS - Read This Before Posting For Malware Removal Help After running through all the steps, you shall have a proper set of logs. Please post them in a new topic, as this one shall be closed. If you have trouble with one of the steps, simply move on to the next one, and make note of it in your reply. Please note that the Virus/Trojan/Spyware Help forum is extremely busy, and it may take a while to receive a reply.
