infected Dell XP 630 with XP sp 3
Someone please help??? I am using a backup computer because the Dell is infected with some type of spyware. I spent 6 hrs on Sat with Dell (they charged an additional $250) and were unable to repair the machine because there was no internet connection to it. The computer will start up in both normal and safe modes, but none of the devices will work, including Internet Explorer and Mozilla. The broadband connection is good, or else I would not be using this back up computer. Dell installed a "malware" program onto the backup computer via external hard drive and CD, but neither will work on the infected computer. When you turn on the computer, in the middle of the screen, it says that spyware is on the computer. There is no way to install any type of remover onto the infected machine. McAfee is installed on this machine and is updated. When I emailed McAfee they told me that they could not help unless I can get an internet access to it. Is it time to call a computer tech or is this something that someone can help with?

Re: infected Dell XP 630 with XP sp 3
Hello and Welcome.
We cannot work without logs. If your machine cannot connect to the internet, use the other machine, and download tools and carry them to, and carry back logs from, the affected machine via USB stick. We want all our members to perform the steps outlined in the link I'll give you below, before posting for assistance. There's a sticky at the top of this forum, and a Quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Please follow our pre-posting process outlined here: NEW INSTRUCTIONS - Read This Before Posting For Malware Removal Help After running through all the steps, you shall have a proper set of logs. Please post them in a new topic, as this one shall be closed. If you have trouble with one of the steps, simply move on to the next one, and make note of it in your reply. If this is too much trouble for you due to the current state of the machine, you may want to back up any valued data and restore it to factory condition.
