Those three warnings are okay. Antivir just can't open them because they're in use.
Thanks for confirming what I thought. I will see how everything goes over the weekend and report back.

One last thing , all those removal apps / scanners I was instructed to get, can they be safely deleted now (combofix.exe , gmer.exe , hijackthis.exe , rsit.exe) ?

I am glad to report, that after a few days of testing, my laptop seems to be back to normal.

Angelfire777 you are a star , thanks for your help.

Unfortunately I still have the IE7 lockup problem every now and then , but atleast I have a *clean* system.

I dont remember doing ...... "combofix was uninstalled when you did combofix /u" bit , was that run automatically when ComboFix was run first ?

Sorry, I thought I had you uninstall combofix already..

For your IE7 problem, try clearing your cache. If you need instructions on that, here's something you can look at: http://help.isu.edu/index.php?action...=64&docid=1015

Click start > run > copy and paste:

combofix /u

That will hide your system files, clear your system restore cache and uninstall combofix.

Note: Make sure you update your Antivirus programs and other security products regularly to avoid new threats that could infect your system.

Please check out Tony Klein's article "How did I get infected in the first place?"

And miekiemoes' "How to Prevent Malware"

Happy safe surfing!

Note: Please reply to this thread one last time so I could mark it as resolved.

Combofix now uninstalled :)

also, cheers for the links.

As for clearing the cache, I regularly do that (once a weeek)

The vast majority of the IE7 lockups are from ....right click , "open in a new window" on a link.

I am happy for you to close this thread, thanks, unless you have any further comment about my IE7 prob ?
