Log Help Please (trojans and adware problems)

I'm only 16 and my knowledge of computers is really limited, so I have no idea what information may be useful... here's the full story, sorry it's so long haha

I was running low on disk space, so I deleted my mal-ware detection programs temporarily (it was supposed to be only for a day) to create more space until i got an external drive. Bad decision - Windows defender detected three trojans in a row and then my computer shut down and went to a blue screen. I restarted in safe mode to attempt a system restore but discovered that all my restore points had been deleted. I ran a windows defender scan and it found and deleted TrojanDownloader:Win32/Vxgame, Backdoor:Win32/Haxdoor, Trojan:Win32/Matcash.KX, Trojan:Win32/Meredrop, Adware:Win32/SideSearch, Adware:Win32/ZenoSearch, Adware:Win32/Ad Rotator. Now, everytime i restart my computer, I get a message that DET has stopped DOS 5 from running to protect my computer, and it seems that ZenoSearch regenerates itself, as I can't seem to get rid of it. I also cannot download anything on my computer because all the downloads freeze, my task manager has been disabled, my instant messaging programs have stopped responding, and my computer as a whole is EXTREMELY sluggish. When doing research, I found that a lot of people use HijackThis (I have no idea if it'll help in my situation or not). Since I couldn't download any better anti-malware programs on my computer, I downloaded and ran HijackThis on a zipdisk. Here's the log:

Re: Log Help Please (trojans and adware problems)

Hello and welcome to TSF.

Quote:
I was running low on disk space, so I deleted my mal-ware detection programs temporarily
I guess you learned your lesson. It only takes a few seconds to get infected if you don't have any protection software. If you needed space, you should have uninstalled the NON-SECURITY programs that you no longer use or need. Windows Defender alone is not enough to protect your system.

The system appears to be severely compromised with a backdoor trojan among others. A backdoor trojan runs in the background and allows remote access to the compromised system, stealing critical system information, downloading and executing files without the knowledge of the owner.

If you do any banking or other financial transactions on the PC or if it should contain any other sensitive information, please get to a known clean computer and change all passwords where applicable, and it would be wise to contact those same financial institutions to apprise them of your situation.

In all honesty, if this were to be my computer, I would back up all my personal data and do a reformat&reinstall. Please read this: How Do I Handle Possible Identify Theft, Internet Fraud and CC Fraud?

However, if you do not have the resources to reinstall your computer and would like me to attempt to clean it, I will be happy to do so but it is not fully guaranteed that your computer will be completely rid of malware regardless of what anyone can really do.

If you haven't received help elsewhere already and still wish to try to clean it, please post the logs requested in our pre-posting process outlined below:

http://www.techsupportforum.com/secu...oval-help.html

If you have trouble with one of the steps, simply move on to the next one, and make note of it in your reply.

Please note that the forum is very busy and if I don't hear from you in three days this thread will be closed.

Obviously it seems like a stupid idea now hahaha. I had already deleted all i could, defragmented, done daily disc cleanups, deleted temp files, etc. for a few months. I figured I could just uninstall a few programs, transfer some files, and not use the computer until I had an external harddrive to make space and reinstall them. I still left a firewall and Mcaffee running, but I didn't realize how unprotected I had left my computer until afterwards. I have learned my lesson though

What additional software would you recommend to install for future reference?

Would this include ordering items online using credit cards? There is no sensitive data on the computer itself.

OK, I guess I'll have to do this. One question though - if I transfer all of my files to another computer or hard drive, is there a chance of that computer getting infected, or is this a problem that is solely rooted in the registry of my computer?

Thanks for your help.

Hi,

Take a look in here:

Yes, it would.

The problem is not and cannot be limited to the registry.

The following may be of some use in reformatting your harddrive.

1 - Backup Your Data
Copy all your data to a separate drive, CD, DVD, etc.
It may be a good idea to check the files that you backup with an online scanner, you don't want to be reinfected.
http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner

2 - Back Up Your Drivers
Particularly important if your computer was not delivered with driver CDs

Driver Genius Pro finds updates and backs up your drivers into an exe installer - very simple to re-install
Or there's the free DriverMax from http://www.innovative-sol.com

3 - Download Programs, Installers, and Updates
Make sure you have all the programs you will need to re-install such as an Antivirus, a Firewall, and, if not included on the installation disk, Microsoft's Service Pack 3 for Windows XP.
Take note of all the product keys and serial numbers. These may be on boxes, CDs, or in emails.

4 - Make Sure You Can Get Back Online
Check that you have modem drivers, set up instructions, and log-in details.

5 - Boot From The Windows CD and Install.
Physically disconnect your internet cable between the computer and the modem/router
If your computer isn't set to boot from CD, look for the option to enter the BIOS setup during startup - usually Del, F1 or F2
In the BIOS, look for the option to change the order of boot devices
Select the CD drive as the first option
Save and exit

6 - Reload Drivers
Once the Windows installation is complete, re-load the drivers you save in 2 above

7 - Install Security Programs
Install your Antivirus, Firewall, and other security programs

8 - Install Any Microsoft Updates
Reconnect your computer to the internet and go to the Microsoft Updates site: http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate
Download and install any required updates

9 - Install Any Programs
Finally, install any programs you need to run
