Re: Help needed. Red X in taskbar that says "Your computer is infected!
Clean Log.
One last detail to take care of. Go to Control Panel click Display>Desktop>Customize Desktop>Web> Now, Uncheck Everything and delete if present:
Post a new HijackThis log. I'll have some final housekeeping procedures and protection information for you once that's done.

Re: Help needed. Red X in taskbar that says "Your computer is infected!
Hi -
That's an old version of HijackThis, you have two versions. The one you've used won't show me what I need to see. Please delete this one: C:\Program Files\Hijackthis\HijackThis.exe Please run a scan with this one: C:\Program Files\trend micro\HijackThis.exe

Re: Help needed. Red X in taskbar that says "Your computer is infected!
Thanks, that looks fine.
Your logs appear clean. You should be good to go. We still have a few items to address. Go to -> Run -> copy/paste in the following single line command & click OKcombofix /u This will uninstall ComboFix. It will also implement some cleanup procedures and reset System Restore points. Now that your system is clean, to help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you follow these steps and look into the following free programs:
Scan here http://secunia.com/software_inspector/ for out of date & vulnerable common applications on your computer Here are some additional utilities that will further enhance your safety.
In light of your recent troubles, I'm sure you'll like to avoid any future infections. Please take a look at these well written articles If you want to fight back the Malware Writers that have made your life a misery, please take a look here and read what you can do against it. Please respond to this thread one more time so we can mark this thread as resolved.

DOne. Thanks for all your help in this process.
Oops. Spoke too soon. CPU just shut down itself and restarted and now the red x is back and it's like nothing changed. Last edited by iiiput; 11-06-2008 at 07:00 PM. |

Re: Help needed. Red X in taskbar that says "Your computer is infected!
Legit sites often get hacked these days. If it happened upon visit of that site, stay away from it! What site was it, please? Don't post a live link, but deaden the link by using hxxp:// instead of http
If you clicked a link in your email, it might be the cause. Don't click links in email unless you're absolutely certain you know where they go, and who they came from. You're right back where you started, or worse. Part of the problem may also be that AVG 7.5 is not the most recent. You may want to consider updating to AVG 8, or using a different AV such as Avira. I prefer Avira. Let me know after we take this out again. Download ComboFix once again and run it. Link 1 Link 2 Link 3 Post it's log.

Re: Help needed. Red X in taskbar that says "Your computer is infected!
Well, I'd sure think that site would not be the source of the troubles. I'll try to look at it a bit later.
Before beginning the fix, read this post completely. If there's anything that you do not understand, kindly ask your questions before proceeding. Ensure that there aren't any opened browsers when you are carrying out the procedures below. Save the following instructions in Notepad as this webpage would not be available when you're carrying out the fix. It is IMPORTANT that you don't miss a step & perform everything in the correct order/sequence. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Re: Help needed. Red X in taskbar that says "Your computer is infected!
Go into the Control Panel and double-click the Java Icon. (looks like a coffee cup)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
For Technical Support, double-click the e-mail address located at the bottom of each menu. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Please visit Windows Update, and get all critical updates for the machine. Be sure to run the Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool. I'd strongly suggest Internet Explorer 7 as well; it's much more secure than IE 6. I see you've added a couple security programs. Have you run a scan with SUPERAntiSpyware and also with Spybot Search & Destroy? What did they find?
