OS slow- VM memory always low- HJT Freezing

HI,

This computer came from my son, and I've put the following on it

AVG free
Super Anti spy ware free
Spybot Search and Destroy
Spyware Guard
Spyware Blaster
Zone Alarm free
Ad-aware free
A squared free
Firefox

Step 1:

I removed: Download Accelerator Plus and Kazza

Step 2:

I can not use Panda active scan, I am on dial up and it keeps freezing after 4 hours.

Step 3:

Installed IE-Spyad

Step 4:

OS updated.

I hate to put a huge image up, but with HJT freezing, this image is of HJT and it shows where it is freezing and what it has done.

Re: OS slow- VM memory always low- HJT Freezing

Hi,

Its almost 72 hours, I wanted to let you know, that I've been reading people's posts, and what I've done is found out how to start the computer in safe mode. Which I did and I ran all of those programs. It showed nothing.

HJT froze in exactly the same place.

I figured what ever it is, is a whooper and hiding pretty good.

So.... what I've decided to do is to reformat the computer, I have the licensed xp home disk.

It is the original home xp, so all the updates will be lost. Also I am worried about what drivers I will be losing.

The other thing is I don't know how to do this, can someone please give me advise on the following:

1. reformatting
2. How and where to get updates
3.How do I save the drivers if I don't know if they have stuff in them?

Thanks in advance

Re: OS slow- VM memory always low- HJT Freezing

Hi,

I feel like I am pestering you, that is not what I want to do. I know everyone volunteers their time. I do that myself in real life and its not fair to the volunteers some of the feedback that comes back.

I would greatly appreciate a response, it has been 11 days and 15 hours and change. if you can not help me, then if you can kindly tell me what forum to go to, or what site to go to that would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You Kindly

J

Hello Jammie,

Our apologies for the oversight of your thread. There are simply so many more people requesting assistance than there are of us, that regrettablly, we cannot get to everyone and many threads get overlooked.

As the focus of this section is malware removal, the questions you now have would be better asked of the folks in the Windows XP Support section.

Thank You!

I appreciate your response.

I know how that is, where I volunteer, it seems there are less volunteers and more and more need for them.

I thank you very much for your directing me.

You're welcome, Jammie. I see you're already in good hands over there.

Be sure to reinstall those programs. They'll go a long way in protecting the system in the future.

My only suggestion is to trim down the anti malware programs. You'd do just fine with these:

AVG free
Super Anti spy ware free
Spybot Search and Destroy
Spyware Guard
Spyware Blaster
Zone Alarm free
Firefox

Once you get the system up and running, you might find these articles a good read:

**Be very wary with any security software that is advertised in popups or in other ways. They are not only usually of no use, but often have malware in them.

Take care, Jammie.
