Re: need help please with virtumonde
Please visit this webpage for instructions for downloading and running ComboFix:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/comb...o-use-combofix Please ensure you read this guide carefully and install the Recovery Console first. The Windows Recovery Console will allow you to boot up into a special recovery mode if needed. This allows us to help you in the case that your computer has a problem after an attempted removal of malware. It is a simple procedure that will only take a few moments of your time. As part of installing the Recovery Console, ComboFix will begin to run. Follow the prompts to install the Recovery Console. Your desktop may disappear. This is normal. It will return. Once the Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see a message that says: The Recovery Console was successfully installed. ![]() Please continue as follows: Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix. Click Yes to allow ComboFix to continue scanning for malware. When the tool is finished, it will produce a report for you. Post the log from ComboFix when you've accomplished that, along with a new HijackThis log. You are using an outdated version of HijackThis. Please uninstall from Add or Remove Programs, and then delete your current version. Next, download HijackThis to your desktop Alternate link This program will help us determine if there are any spyware/malware on your computer. Double-click on the file you just downloaded. Click on the "Unzip" button to install. It will by default install to the directory - C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis Upon install, HijackThis should open for you. Should it not open, navigate to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis and double click on HijackThis.exe 1. If it gives you an intro screen, just choose 'Do a system scan and save a logfile'. 2. If you don't get the intro screen, just hit Scan and then click on Save log. 3. Please post a new log with the updated version.. Do not fix anything in HijackThis since they may be harmless. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you have any questions along the way, STOP and ask them before proceeding.

Re: need help please with virtumonde
Thanks for letting me know. It seems Bleeping Computer is having a bit of trouble right now.
This would have been one of the things to stop and ask before proceeding. I could have adjusted the posted procedures for you. You can view the Google cache of the page using this link I'll give you the link to the Microsoft site from which you can get the Recovery Console package. Before beginning the fix, read this post completely. If there's anything that you do not understand, kindly ask your questions before proceeding. Ensure that there aren't any opened browsers when you are carrying out the procedures below. Save the following instructions in Notepad as this webpage would not be available when you're carrying out the fix. It is IMPORTANT that you don't miss a step & perform everything in the correct order/sequence. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Quote:
This machine does not have the Windows XP Recovery Console installed. The Windows recovery console will allow you to boot up into a special recovery mode that allows us to help you in the case that your computer has a problem after an attempted removal of malware. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. Please do this: Go to Microsoft's website => http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310994 Select the download that's appropriate for your Operating System ![]() Download the file & save it as it's originally named, next to ComboFix.exe.
Please return with logs from: C:\CF_RC.txt ComboFix (C:\ComboFix.txt if it's been closed) HijackThis

Re: need help please with virtumonde
ok, followed each step. The first log that came up after the recovery console was installed did not save...or if it did, I am too stupid to find where it saved to...so anyway, here is the rest...thank you!

Re: need help please with virtumonde
It's not a problem. You're doing just fine. If the log was saved by ComboFix, it should be here:
C:\CF_RC.txt Open HijackThis and click on 'Do a System Scan Only'. Place a check next to the following entries if they exist (make sure you do not miss any) and click Fix Checked O15 - Trusted Zone: http://www.amaena.com O15 - Trusted Zone: http://locator.cdn.imageservr.com O15 - Trusted Zone: http://scanner.sysprotect.com O15 - Trusted Zone: http://*.systemdoctor.com O15 - Trusted Zone: http://www.winantivirus.com O15 - Trusted Zone: http://www.winantiviruspro.com O15 - Trusted Zone: http://download.cdn.winsoftware.com O15 - Trusted IP range: http://202.67.220.225 O15 - Trusted IP range: http://59.148.220.121 O15 - Trusted IP range: http://62.4.84.53 O15 - Trusted IP range: http://82.98.235.58 O15 - Trusted IP range: http://85.12.25.90 Close HijackThis now. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Restart the machine. Open HijackThis and click on 'Do a System Scan and save a Logfile'. Save the log file and post it here. Also post the C:\CF_RC.txt if you can find it, if not, don't fret. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Re: need help please with virtumonde
We still have a bit more work to do, but the active infection seems to be neutralized. The forum survives on donations from it's members. Every little bit helps. Hugs are always appreciated.
![]() Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Please run this online scan to help look for remnants. First, Go to Start>Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs and remove Kaspersky online scanner if present prior to downloading the most up-to-date one. Next, establish an internet connection & perform an online scan using Internet Explorer at Kaspersky Online Scanner Answer Yes, when prompted to install an ActiveX component.
Note for Internet Explorer 7 users: If at any time you have trouble viewing the accept button of the license, click on the Zoom tool located at the bottom right of the IE window and set the zoom to 75 %. Once the license accepted, reset to 100%. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Open HijackThis and click on 'Do a System Scan and save a Logfile'. Save the log file and post it here. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- How is the machine behaving, please?

Re: need help please with virtumonde
Many of those items are safely quarantined. We'll remove the ones that aren't.
Before beginning the fix, read this post completely. If there's anything that you do not understand, kindly ask your questions before proceeding. It is IMPORTANT that you don't miss a step & perform everything in the correct order/sequence. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Re: need help please with virtumonde
Please go to Start > Run and type or copy/paste the following, then press Enter:
tasks In the ensuing window, click on the 'Advanced' menu (located above) & select 'View Hidden Tasks' Please right click on a couple of these: C:\WINDOWS\tasks\At1.job C:\WINDOWS\tasks\At18.job Select Properties. On the Tasks tab, I'm looking for the data in the Run box. Please copy that data and post it.

Re: need help please with virtumonde
Thanks, that's what I needed to know.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Re: need help please with virtumonde
Good job.
P2P - I see you have P2P software ( Limewire ) installed on your machine. We are not here to pass judgment on file-sharing as a concept. However, we will warn you that engaging in this activity and having this kind of software installed on your machine will always make you more susceptible to re-infections. It may be contributing to your current situation. This page will give you further information. Please note: Even if you are using a "safe" P2P program, it is only the program that is safe. You will be sharing files from uncertified sources, and these are often infected. The bad guys use P2P filesharing as a major conduit to spread their wares. References for the risk of these programs are here, here and here. I would strongly recommend that you uninstall them, however that choice is up to you. If you choose to remove these programs, you can do so via Control Panel >> Add or Remove Programs. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Your logs appear clean. You should be good to go. We still have a few items to address. Go to -> Run -> copy/paste in the following single line command & click OKcombofix /u This will uninstall ComboFix. It will also implement some cleanup procedures and reset System Restore points. Now that your system is clean, to help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you follow these steps and look into the following free programs:
Scan here http://secunia.com/software_inspector/ for out of date & vulnerable common applications on your computer Here are some additional utilities that will further enhance your safety.
In light of your recent troubles, I'm sure you'll like to avoid any future infections. Please take a look at these well written articles If you want to fight back the Malware Writers that have made your life a misery, please take a look here and read what you can do against it. Please respond to this thread one more time so we can mark this thread as resolved.
