Trojan.Vundo help
On the 12th i clicked one of those MSN hacker links. Its one of those which make you open and close windows to send the site around to people on your contact list. The site was
hxxp://myspace-foto.1gb.in/myspace.php?=jwhero@hotmail.com Now, i've gotten rid of the thing that makes me spam other people after i did a scan with Norton 360, but it tells me i have trojan.vundo and trojan.awax. I did some researching, i found my computer had the symptoms of a vundo. Random sites pop up. Some are offering IQ tests, xray scaners on your mobile, the luv crush site, and theres one thats really bad that keeps coming back. hxxp://cativern.com/go/rfe.php?cmp=vm_mg_fails_juan&uid=156D7114692811DDB64D161317CFFFFF&guid=797287AC7B4045AC99BEF3907F4C354D&lid=&url=http%3A%2F%2Fimages.google.com.au%2Fimages%3Fhl%3Den%26q%3Dpele%26btnG%3DSearch&affid=161317 Some sites, but most annoyingly google searches, are made very laggy and usually dont load at all. However, other sites work fine. Internet explorer is dead. When i open it i just end up with a nonresponsive program. (i'm using firefox right now) Shutting down using the start button doesnt work, all the icons stay on the screen, but whatever you try to do its tells you that the windos is shutting down. When i reboot my computer, i'm met with a blank blue screen. it takes at least 10 seconds for explorer.exe to start itself. Ive done the 5 step process Step 1 - none of those programs found Step 2 - I've scanned with pandascan, logs attached Step 3 - I've downloaded IE pad and spywareblaster, and installed them. Step 4 - i have SP2 Step 5 - doing right now. Can you please help? Thanks. PS I wont reply for 6 hours, i'm going to school now |

Re: Trojan.Vundo help
Hello -
We would still need the HijackThis log from Step 5. Please download HijackThis to your desktop Alternate link Double-click on the file you just downloaded. Click on the "Unzip" button to install. It will by default install to the directory - C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis Upon install, HijackThis should open for you. Should it not open, navigate to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis and double click on HijackThis.exe 1. If it gives you an intro screen, just choose 'Do a system scan and save a logfile'. 2. If you don't get the intro screen, just hit Scan and then click on Save log. 3. Post the hijackthis.log file here. Do not fix anything in HijackThis since they may be harmless. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Also... Create an uninstall list: With HiJackThis still open

Re: Trojan.Vundo help
That's likely due to SpywareBlaster or IE-Spyad. On some very few machines, it causes a slowdown through that section, but rarely completely hangs.
If you just walk away for a few minutes, it should push through that section. If it doesn't, the only other option I can see is to uninstall those protections for now. If you uninstall SpywareBlaster, be sure to disable all protections first. That's the official procedure. You can reinstall them later. Sorry for any inconvenience caused.

Re: Trojan.Vundo help
Usually, the list will open in the process of saving, and you copy/paste from that opened list. It is saved to the folder where you've directed it to be saved in the Explorer type window which opens.
So, you can either create a new list, or use Windows Search, and look for this file: uninstall_list.txt

Re: Trojan.Vundo help
Let's work on removing the malware. We can get an uninstall list another way.
Please visit this webpage for instructions for downloading and running ComboFix: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/comb...o-use-combofix Please ensure you read this guide carefully and install the Recovery Console first. The Windows Recovery Console will allow you to boot up into a special recovery mode if needed. This allows us to help you in the case that your computer has a problem after an attempted removal of malware. It is a simple procedure that will only take a few moments of your time. As part of installing the Recovery Console, ComboFix will begin to run. Follow the prompts to install the Recovery Console. Your desktop may disappear. This is normal. It will return. Once the Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see a message that says: The Recovery Console was successfully installed. ![]() Please continue as follows: Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix. Click Yes to allow ComboFix to continue scanning for malware. When the tool is finished, it will produce a report for you. Post the log from ComboFix when you've accomplished that, along with a new HijackThis log. Also: Please go to Start > Run and copy/paste the following, then press Enter: C:\QooBox\Add-Remove Programs.txt A text file should open. Please post the contents of that file in your next reply. If you have any questions along the way, STOP and ask them before proceeding.

Re: Trojan.Vundo help
Sorry about this, but bleepingcomputer.com must be one of the sites affected by the virus, because its been 10 minutes and nothings loaded yet.
also, i copy pasted C:\QooBox\Add-Remove Programs.txt into the Start>Run box, but this window comes up Windows cannot find 'C:\QooBox\Add-Remove Programs'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, then try again. To search for a file, click the Start button, the click Search. Thanks for your help |

Re: Trojan.Vundo help
Hi -
As the instructions must be performed in order, the Add-Remove Programs.txt is not yet created. Do you have access to another machine and a USB stick? If so, use that read the information, and to carry tools back to yours. If not, let me know, and we'll devise a workaround.

Re: Trojan.Vundo help
Can you access this site?
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310994 At that page, scroll down and click on the appropriate download for your version of Windows XP (Home or Professional) and the service pack level that you have installed. When you click on the link to download the file, make sure you save it directly to your desktop. If you are using Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3), then select the Service Pack 2 download. If you are using Windows XP Media Center, then you should select the Windows XP Pro Service Pack 2 download. If you are unsure what version of Windows you have and what Service Pack is installed, you can follow these instructions to gain that information. 1. Click on the Start button. 2. Click on the Run menu option. 3. In the Open: field type the following: sysdm.cpl and then click on the OK button. 4. A screen will appear showing information about your installation. Under the System: category you should see your Windows version and the installed Service Pack. When you are done determining this information continue with Step 2. Do nothing with the file yet....let me know if you can get it.

Re: Trojan.Vundo help
Ok, the files are next to each other on the desktop.
Disable your AntiVirus and other protection applications, or they may interfere Now close all open windows and programs, then drag the setup package onto ComboFix.exe and drop it. ![]() Follow the prompts to start ComboFix and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Recovery Console. ComboFix will now automatically install the Windows Recovery Console onto your computer, which will show up as a new option when booting up your computer. Do not select the Windows Recovery Console option when you start your computer unless requested to by a helper. ![]() Click on Yes When complete, a log will open. Please post the contents of that log in your next reply along with a new HijackThis log.
