I suddenly started seeing the ZEDO pop up ads earlier last night. I deleted a cookie for ZEDO and modified privacy settings to block all pop ups and remove all allowed sites. I followed the steps on this site and my log is pasted below. Re: ZEDO pop up ads
Hello mageips -
You are using an outdated version of HijackThis. Please uninstall from Add or Remove Programs, and then delete your current version. Next, download HijackThis to your desktop Alternate link This program will help us determine if there are any spyware/malware on your computer. Double-click on the file you just downloaded. Click on the "Unzip" button to install. It will by default install to the directory - C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis Upon install, HijackThis should open for you. Should it not open, navigate to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis and double click on HijackThis.exe 1. If it gives you an intro screen, just choose 'Do a system scan and save a logfile'. 2. If you don't get the intro screen, just hit Scan and then click on Save log. 3. Please post a new log with the updated version.. Do not fix anything in HijackThis since they may be harmless. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Create an uninstall list: With HiJackThis still open
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Re: ZEDO pop up ads
Hi mageips -
Good work.... Open HijackThis and click on 'Do a System Scan Only'. Place a check next to the following entries if they exist (make sure you do not miss any) and click Fix Checked O15 - Trusted Zone: *.amaena.com O15 - Trusted Zone: *.avsystemcare.com O15 - Trusted Zone: *.gomyhit.com O15 - Trusted Zone: *.imageservr.com O15 - Trusted Zone: *.imagesrvr.com O15 - Trusted Zone: *.onerateld.com O15 - Trusted Zone: *.safetydownload.com O15 - Trusted Zone: *.storageguardsoft.com O15 - Trusted Zone: *.virusschlacht.com O15 - Trusted Zone: *.amaena.com (HKLM) O15 - Trusted Zone: *.avsystemcare.com (HKLM) O15 - Trusted Zone: *.gomyhit.com (HKLM) O15 - Trusted Zone: *.imageservr.com (HKLM) O15 - Trusted Zone: *.imagesrvr.com (HKLM) O15 - Trusted Zone: *.onerateld.com (HKLM) O15 - Trusted Zone: *.safetydownload.com (HKLM) O15 - Trusted Zone: *.storageguardsoft.com (HKLM) O15 - Trusted Zone: *.trustedantivirus.com (HKLM) O15 - Trusted Zone: *.virusschlacht.com (HKLM) Close HijackThis now. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Please visit this webpage for instructions for downloading and running ComboFix: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/comb...o-use-combofix Please ensure you read this guide carefully and install the Recovery Console first. The Windows Recovery Console will allow you to boot up into a special recovery mode if needed. This allows us to help you in the case that your computer has a problem after an attempted removal of malware. It is a simple procedure that will only take a few moments of your time. As part of installing the Recovery Console, ComboFix will begin to run. Follow the prompts to install the Recovery Console. Your desktop may disappear. This is normal. It will return. Once the Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see a message that says: The Recovery Console was successfully installed. ![]() Please continue as follows: Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix. Click Yes to allow ComboFix to continue scanning for malware. When the tool is finished, it will produce a report for you. Post the log from ComboFix when you've accomplished that, along with a new HijackThis log. If you have any questions along the way, STOP and ask them before proceeding.

Re: ZEDO pop up ads
Hello tetonbob,
I ran combofix with one small mis-step (forgot to disable antivirus) but all appears to have completed okay. Posted below is the combofix log and a new hijack this log. I will await any further instructions. Re: ZEDO pop up ads
Good job. Still getting popups?
Do you know why this file is on your machine? C:\Documents and Settings\Mark\remote.exe I see also GoToAssist, is it related to that? Please go to: VirusTotal

Re: ZEDO pop up ads
Hello tetonbob,
Thanks for the quick response. The pop ups seem to have stopped and it makes life online much more pleasant. I believe remot.exe is related to GoToAssist and I think they are both related to my remote access to my job. I did scan it on VirusTotal though and the results are below. Let me know what you think. Re: ZEDO pop up ads
Hi mageips -
I think we can leave remote.exe The ThreatExpert link in the report seems to confirm it's a Citrix related (GoToAssist) file. See if there's a version tab on it, by right clicking on the file, and selecting Properties. If there's a version tab, perhaps there's a company name there. We do have a bit more work to do. Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Please run this online scan to help look for remnants. First, Go to Start>Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs and remove Kaspersky online scanner if present prior to downloading the most up-to-date one. Next, establish an internet connection & perform an online scan using Internet Explorer at Kaspersky Online Scanner Answer Yes, when prompted to install an ActiveX component.
Note for Internet Explorer 7 users: If at any time you have trouble viewing the accept button of the license, click on the Zoom tool located at the bottom right of the IE window and set the zoom to 75 %. Once the license accepted, reset to 100%. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Open HijackThis and click on 'Do a System Scan and save a Logfile'. Save the log file and post it here. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Re: ZEDO pop up ads
Hi mageips -
Looks good. Those items will be removed by uninstalling ComboFix as instructed below. Your logs appear clean. You should be good to go. We still have a few items to address. Go to -> Run -> copy/paste in the following single line command & click OKcombofix /u This will uninstall ComboFix. It will also implement some cleanup procedures and reset System Restore points. Now that your system is clean, to help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you follow these steps and look into the following free programs:
Scan here http://secunia.com/software_inspector/ for out of date & vulnerable common applications on your computer Here are some additional utilities that will further enhance your safety.
In light of your recent troubles, I'm sure you'll like to avoid any future infections. Please take a look at these well written articles If you want to fight back the Malware Writers that have made your life a misery, please take a look here and read what you can do against it. Please respond to this thread one more time so we can mark this thread as resolved.

Re: ZEDO pop up ads
Hello again tetonbob,
Sounds good and I have removed combofix as instructed. I did just receive a warning about a program from my anti vius software. The program in question is named RemAdm-ProcLaunch!171. Is that something you have heard about? I see one post on the site about it but no replies. Thans once again for all of the help. mageips. |

Re: ZEDO pop up ads
Without a file name and path, rather than an infection name, I can't be certain...but it might have to do with the remote.exe or the other Citrix remote type files on the machine.
This is what McAfee's site says: http://vil.nai.com/vil/content/v_139422.htm McAfee(R) AVERT™ recognizes that this program may have legitimate uses in contexts where an authorized administrator has knowingly installed this application. If you agreed to a license agreement for this, or another bundled application, you may have legal obligations with regard to removing this software, or using the host application without this software. Please contact the software vendor for further information.
