Re: Help! Constant Svchost.exe and DEP Error Messages
OK, it looks like I've successfully ridded myself of Symantec without screwing up my registry. Also, the Rtvscan.exe and Symantec errors I was getting during boot-up have stopped.
I installed AVG and ran a new HJT log (see below). Thanks, Raynman Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2 Scan saved at 9:04:42 PM, on 8/17/2008 Platform: Windows XP SP3 (WinNT 5.01.2600) MSIE: Internet Explorer v7.00 (7.00.6000.16705) Boot mode: Normal Running processes: C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\Program Files\Lavasoft\Ad-Aware\aawservice.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Seagate\Schedule2\schedul2.exe C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 6.0\PhotoshopElementsFileAgent.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\bin\AppleMobileDeviceService.exe C:\Program Files\Bonjour\mDNSResponder.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\VS7DEBUG\MDM.EXE C:\WINDOWS\system32\PSIService.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXE C:\WINDOWS\system32\hkcmd.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\igfxpers.exe C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\HP Boot Optimizer\HPBootOp.exe C:\Program Files\HP\HP Software Update\HPwuSchd2.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86\3\hpztsb10.exe C:\Program Files\Real\RealPlayer\RealPlay.exe C:\Program Files\Seagate\DiscWizard\DiscWizardMonitor.exe C:\Program Files\Seagate\DiscWizard\TimounterMonitor.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Seagate\Schedule2\schedhlp.exe C:\WINDOWS\Samsung\ComSMMgr\ssmmgr.exe C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesHelper.exe C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 6.0\apdproxy.exe C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_07\bin\jusched.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Corel\Corel PhotoDownloader\Corel Photo Downloader.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\ctfmon.exe C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe C:\Program Files\AIRPLUS\D-Link AirPlus DWL-120+ Wireless USB Adapter\AIRPLUS.EXE C:\Program Files\HP\Digital Imaging\bin\hpqtra08.exe C:\Program Files\Updates from HP\9972322\Program\Updates from HP.exe C:\Program Files\Verizon Wireless\V CAST Music Manager\MEMonitor.exe C:\Program Files\iPod\bin\iPodService.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\msiexec.exe C:\PROGRA~1\AVG\AVG8\avgwdsvc.exe C:\PROGRA~1\AVG\AVG8\avgrsx.exe C:\Program Files\AVG\AVG8\avgtray.exe C:\WINDOWS\SOUNDMAN.EXE C:\Documents and Settings\Carli\Desktop\HiJackThis\HijackThis.exe R0 - Re: Help! Constant Svchost.exe and DEP Error Messages
Good job, Raynman! If you have no other issues:
------------------------------------------------------ Congratulations. Well done! Your logs appear clean. You should be good to go. As far as those infected objects listed in the ESET log, those are safely tucked away in ComboFix's quarantine folder or in old System Restore points, which we will be taking care of now. Go to Start >> Run and Copy/Paste the following single-line command into the Run box and click OK combofix /uThis will uninstall ComboFix and delete ComboFix's quarantine folder. It will also implement some cleanup procedures, remove old System Restore points which contain previous infections, and create a fresh, clean System Restore point. Please re-enable your antivirus program and any other antispyware programs disabled earlier if you haven't already. To enable Spybot's TeaTimer:
You can safely delete any tools downloaded or any logs, files, and any shortcuts on your desktop that were created during this fix. ------------------------------------------------------ MICROSOFT UPDATES It is very important that you get all of the critical updates for your Operating System and Internet Explorer. Keeping your OS and browser up to date will help make you less susceptible to attacks by Trojans and viruses. Please go to Microsoft and download all the critical updates to help prevent possible re-infection. FIREWALL Using a third-party Firewall will allow you to give/deny access for applications that want to go online. Select one of these, or another of your choice: Do not install more than one Firewall program as they will conflict with each other.SPYWARE PREVENTION This is a good time to set up protection against further attacks. In light of your recent problem, I'm sure you'd like to avoid any future infections. Please read these well written articles: To help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you get the following free programs if you do not already have them:
Please respond to this thread one more time so we can mark this thread as resolved. |

Re: Help! Constant Svchost.exe and DEP Error Messages
Chemist,
I followed all the advice in your last post and in the process uncovered and deleted a couple of trojan horses (PSW.OnlineGames_r.g and Rootkit-Agent.AJ). I did not enable TeaTimer. I was constantly getting registry warnings from TeaTimer that I was uncomfortable responding to. But, if you feel TeaTimer is beneficial, I will enable it. Thank you for all your help!! Raynman |

Re: Help! Constant Svchost.exe and DEP Error Messages
Chemist,
Sorry for the delay in my response. I don't remember which program found the trojan horses. I followed the steps in your previous post and one of the programs I installed (Comodo Firewall, SpywareBlaster or SpywareGuard) detected the trojans and gave me the option to delete them, which I did. Everything seems to be working great. Thanks again for all the help! Raynman |
