BUMP ! 72 hours passed. My computer is running slow. Not sure anymore about the 95% in my previous post. All pop-ups go with internet explorer I think.

Re: Constant pop-ups (IE) celldorado, CiD:, etc.

Hello and Welcome. Please subscribe to this thread to get immediate notification of replies as soon as they are posted. To do this click Thread Tools, then click Subscribe to this Thread. Make sure it is set to Instant Notification, then click Subscribe.

Before beginning the fix, read this post completely. If there's anything that you do not understand, kindly ask your questions before proceeding. Ensure that there aren't any opened browsers when you are carrying out the procedures below. Save the following instructions in Notepad as this webpage would not be available when you're carrying out the fix.

It is IMPORTANT that you don't miss a step & perform everything in the correct order/sequence.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

P2P - I see you have P2P software ( Limewire Music, BitTorrent, DNA, P2P Energy Toolbar ) installed on your machine. We are not here to pass judgment on file-sharing as a concept. However, we will warn you that engaging in this activity and having this kind of software installed on your machine will always make you more susceptible to re-infections. It may be contributing to your current situation. This page will give you further information.

Please note: Even if you are using a "safe" P2P program, it is only the program that is safe. You will be sharing files from uncertified sources, and these are often infected. The bad guys use P2P filesharing as a major conduit to spread their wares.

References for the risk of these programs are here,
here and here.

I would strongly recommend that you uninstall them. You can do so via Control Panel >> Add or Remove Programs.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Please download OTMoveIt2 by OldTimer.
Save it to your desktop. We'll use this shortly.

Please download HijackThis to your desktop

Alternate link

Double-click on the file you just downloaded.
Click on the "Unzip" button to install. It will by default install to the directory - C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis

Upon install, HijackThis should open for you. For Windows Vista, we need to run it a special way, so please close it.

Now, locate the shortcut on your desktop.

Open HijackThis by right clicking on it, and selecting Run As Administrator.

Click on 'Do a System Scan Only'. Check the following entries if they exist (make sure you do not miss any) and click Fix Checked

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [anti find] "C:\ProgramData\Upload Cash Cash.nj48x7i"
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Frag Ooze Cash Scr] "C:\ProgramData\Hope Locks File.1l11x"

Close HijackThis now.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Using OTMoveIt
  • Please right click on OTMoveit2.exe and select "Run as an Administrator" to run it.
  • Copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy):

    Quote:
    C:\ProgramData\Upload Cash Cash.nj48x7i
    C:\ProgramData\Hope Locks File.1l11x
  • Return to OTMoveIt2, right click in the "Paste List Of Files/Patterns To Search For and Move" window (under the yellow bar) and choose Paste.
  • Click the red Moveit! button.
  • Copy everything in the Results window (under the green bar) to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy), and paste it in your next reply.
  • Close OTMoveIt2
If a file or folder cannot be moved immediately you may be asked to reboot the machine to finish the move process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes.

If the machine reboots, the Results log can be found here:

c:\_OTMoveIt\MovedFiles\mmddyyyy_hhmmss.log

Where mmddyyyy_hhmmss is the date of the tool run.

=========================================================
  1. Download deljob.exe and save it to your desktop.
  2. Double click on Deljob.exe.
  3. A log, (logit.txt) will open afterwards. If it doesn't, please locate this log on your C drive.
  4. Please post the contents of the logfile in your next reply.

==========================================================

Open HijackThis (right click on HijackThis.exe and select "Run as an Administrator") and click on 'Do a System Scan and save a Logfile'. Save the log file and post it here.

Please return with logs from:

OTMoveIt
deljob (logit.txt)
HijackThis

Re: Constant pop-ups (IE) celldorado, CiD:, etc.

Open HijackThis by right clicking on it, and selecting Run As Administrator.

Click on 'Do a System Scan Only'. Check the following entries if they exist (make sure you do not miss any) and click Fix Checked

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [anti find] "C:\ProgramData\Upload Cash Cash.1wqfdwu"

Close HijackThis now.

Restart the machine.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Please run deljob.exe once again, and post it's log.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Open HijackThis (right click on HijackThis.exe and select "Run as an Administrator") and click on 'Do a System Scan and save a Logfile'. Save the log file and post it here.

Re: Constant pop-ups (IE) celldorado, CiD:, etc.

Hi jelle125 -

Please do post the new HijackThis log as requested, using the method outlined above. We still have a bit more work to do.

Re: Constant pop-ups (IE) celldorado, CiD:, etc.

Great...things are looking good.

Uninstall the following via the Add/Remove Panel (Start->(Settings)->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs) if they exist:

Java(TM) 6 Update 6

This is outdated, and a security risk by having it installed still. Unfortunately, Java does not uninstall previous version when you update, nor tell you that you should.

Leave Java(TM) 6 Update 7 alone, as it is the most recent.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To help ensure there are no remnants:

Perform an online scan with Panda ActiveScan
  • Click on Scan Your PC Now
  • A "pop up" window will appear, or a new tab will open.
  • Click on Register
  • Choose the option you like most, but we recommend the Free Registration.
  • Click on Register
  • Enter your e-mail address, and create a password.
  • Select "I do not want to receive any type of information". (unless you want to receive such information)
  • Click on Send
  • Confirm registration, and continue by entering your user name and password, then click on Enter
  • Select Full Scan, then Click on Scan Now
  • Wait for the components to be loaded and installed. Don't close this window or go to another page while it is downloading. You can continue using the Internet by opening another window in your browser.
  • If it finds any malware it can disinfect, the Disinfect button will be enabled. Click on Disinfect
  • Please ignore the offer to buy the program. Click on Export To
  • Export the log and save it to your desktop.
  • Please attach the contents of that log to your reply, along with a new HijackThis log.
* Turn off the real time scanner of any existing antivirus program while performing the online scan

Re: Constant pop-ups (IE) celldorado, CiD:, etc.

Looks good! Mostly cookies found, this is normal.

The other file found is a legit HP file. Since this is an HP machine, you can leave that file.

Please right click on OTMoveit2.exe and select "Run as an Administrator" to run it. Click on the Cleanup button. Follow the prompts. If you get a warning from your firewall or other security programs regarding OTMoveIt attempting to contact the internet you should allow it to do so. The system may require a reboot to complete this step. Please allow it.

Your logs appear clean. You should be good to go. We still have a few items to address.

Reset hidden/system files and folders

To disable the viewing of Hidden files follow these steps:

1. Close all programs so that you are at your desktop.
2. Click on the Start button. This is the small round button with the Windows flag in the lower left corner.
3. Click on the Control Panel menu option.
4. When the control panel opens you can either be in Classic View or Control Panel Home view:

If you are in the Classic View do the following:
1. Double-click on the Folder Options icon.
2. Click on the View tab.
3. Go to step 5.

If you are in the Control Panel Home view do the following:
1. Click on the Appearance and Personalization link .
2. Click on Show Hidden Files or Folders.
3. Go to step 5.

5. Under the Hidden files and folders section select the radio button labeled Do Not Show hidden files and folders.
6. Place a checkmark in the checkbox labeled Hide extensions for known file types.
7. Place a checkmark in the checkbox labeled Hide protected operating system files.
8. Press the Apply button and then the OK button and close My Computer.
9. Now Windows Vista is configured to hide all hidden files, as is designed by default..

Clear & Reset System Restore's Cache
  • Press the Windows key + R
  • Type or copy/paste control sysdm.cpl,,4 & press Enter
  • Click on Continue
  • Under Automatic Restore points
    • Uncheck (untick) all the boxes under Create restore points automatically on the selected disks section.
    • Click Turn System Restore Off.
    • Click Apply

Turn System Restore back on now.

  • Check (tick) all the boxes under Create restore points automatically on the selected disks section.
  • Click OK.

Update Windows

Microsoft releases patches for Windows and Office products regularly to patch up Windows and Office products loopholes and fix any bugs found. Please ensure that you visit the following websites regularly or do update your system regularly.

Install the updates immediately if they are found. Reboot your computer if necessary, revisit Windows Update and Office update sites until there are no more updates to be installed.

To update Windows, click on Start > Windows Update (or Start > All Programs > Windows Update if you are using the new Vista Start Menu). If the Windows Update is not found there, go to this link - http://update.microsoft.com/ .

Now that you are clean, to help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you get the following free programs if you don't have them already:
  • SpywareBlaster to help prevent spyware from installing in the first place.
    • Install & update SpywareBlaster with the latest definitions.
After you have updated, click the button - enable protection for all unprotected items

    .
  • SPYBOT - SEARCH & DESTROY
Download and install Spybot - Search & Destroy with its TeaTimer option. This will provide realtime spyware & hijacker protection on your computer alongside your virus protection. You should also scan your computer with the program on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software.
  • Winpatrol

Winpatrol is heuristic protection program, meaning it looks for patterns in codes that work like malware. It also takes a snapshot of your system's critical resources and alerts you to any changes that may occur without you knowing. You can read more about Winpatrol's features here.

You can get a free copy of Winpatrol or use the Plus version for more features.

You can read Winpatrol's FAQ if you run into problems.

In light of your recent troubles, I'm sure you'll like to avoid any future infections. Please take a look at these well written articles
If you want to fight back the Malware Writers that have made your life a misery, please take a look here and read what you can do against it.

Please respond to this thread one more time so we can mark this thread as resolved.
